Facts 2671-2700: Duck Tales Themed Page
Everyday they're out there making DUCK TALES! Whooo-oh!
This cartoon is a classic and IGN has announced this afternoon (Feb. 25th 2015) that a brand new Ducktales cartoon is coming to Disney XD in 2017!
This new version is also said to feature Donald Duck!
Onto the facts!
Fact #2671
According to Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck comic, Scrooge earned his lucky Number One Dime by giving a shoeshine in his hometown of Glasgow when he was just 10 years old. And it's not just any old dime-it is, specifically, a 1875 or 1857 (depending on which comic you read) Seated Liberty dime. Depending on the which year it is and the condition it's in, that dime would be worth up to $700 today.
Fact #2672
Alan Young, who was the voice of Scrooge, was arguably more well-known for his work with another non-human: Mr. Ed. Young was Wilbur Post.
Fact #2673
Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby are voiced by Russi Taylor, who happens to be the voice of Minnie Mouse as well.
Fact #2674
If the show had followed the comics more closely, Donald Duck would have been part of the DuckTales gang. Disney producers decided that they really wanted the focus to be on the stingy Scot, so they took Donald out of the equation.
Fact #2675
Mark Mueller, the man responsible for that oh-so-catchy theme song, also wrote the Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers theme song. OK, that makes sense. But how about this-he also wrote Jennifer Paige's "Crush" and Amy Grant's "That's What Love is For."
Fact #2676
Exactly how big is Scrooge's money bin? A later story by Don Rosa showed blueprints for the vault that pegged its size as 127 feet by 120 feet.
Fact #2677
An incomplete lineup of Beagle Boys includes Bigtime, Burger, Bouncer, Baggy, Bankjob, Bugle, Bebop, Babyface, Megabyte, Bomber, Backwoods, Bacon, Bullseye, Bulkhead, Butterball, Bombshell, Bankroll and Brainstorm.
Fact #2678
Darkwing Duck was inspired by the DuckTales episode "Double-O-Duck," where Launchpad McQuack plays an undercover agent. In the first-ever Darkwing Duck, Launchpad quits his job as Scrooge's personal pilot to become Darkwing's sidekick.
Fact #2679
If you managed to beat the DuckTales game but bankrupted Mr. McDuck, you were one of a few people who saw the alternate "Sad Scrooge" ending.
Fact #2680
Scrooge was born in the comics, specifically those written and drawn by the legendary Carl Barks. Though he began life as a cantankerous old misanthrope in the story 'Christmas on Bear Mountain,' he quickly evolved into the adventurous old duck we know and love.
Fact #2681
There are 4 different versions of the shows theme song. There's the one most people are familiar with: a single verse, chorus, bridge and the final chorus. The Disney afternoon version is slightly shorter, with the first line of the chorus removed. A version heard on read-along cassette tapes includes an instrumental section and an additional chorus. The longest one is the rarely heard full version which includes a guitar solo, a fadeout ending, and an additional verse.
Fact #2682
The show's creators felt that they had to account for Donald's absence, so they had him join the Navy. This left him unable to look after Huey, Dewey, and Louie, so the three young ducks went to live with their Uncle Scrooge. Thus the era of Donald as a deadbeat duck dad begins.
Fact #2683
Perhaps you're wondering how all of these Duck family relations work out. Is Scrooge Donald's uncle, or Huey, Dewey, and Louie's? Fortunately, there is a definitive Duck family tree, lovingly illustrated by the amazing artist Don Rosa. As this detail from the full version shows, Donald is the son of Quackmore Duck and Scrooge's sister, Hortense McDuck. Huey, Dewey, and Louie are the sons of Donald's sister Della (called 'Dumbella' in their debut cartoon) and a never seen, seldom mentioned father. Scrooge is their great-uncle.
Fact #2684
Huey is in red because red is the brightest "hue." Dewey wears blue, the color of "dew," a.k.a. water. That "leaves" Louie, the nephew wearing leaf green.
Fact #2685
"DuckTales' was a hit with children all over the world, but only Hungary has it's very own "DuckTales generation." The term, Kacsamesék generáció in Hungarian, refers to people born in the first half on the 1980s. In 1993, an episode of 'DuckTales' was interrupted by the announcement that Hungary's first democratically elected Prime Minister had died, giving the young audience an unexpected first encounter with the world of politics.
Fact #2686
Another change from the Barks comics involves the nationality of Scrooge's rival Flintheart Glomgold, the second richest duck in the world. In 'DuckTales,' Flintheart shares Scrooge's Scottish background. But in the comics, he's an Afrikaner: a South African with primarily European ancestry.
Fact #2687
Contrary to popular belief, the 'Tale' in 'TaleSpin' is not an indication that the show was originally planned as a 'DuckTales' spinoff starring crash-prone pilot Launchpad McQuack. The rumor comes from a misunderstanding of a statement from 'TaleSpin' co-creator Jymn Magon. Magon recalled an old idea from 'DuckTales' in which Launchpad was an independent cargo pilot, as opposed to Scrooge's personal pilot. The abandoned concept was part of the inspiration for 'TaleSpin,' but Launchpad was never considered for the starring role.
Fact #2688
A "Zummi Gummi" doll from the Gummi Bears is seen during the toys coming to life segment in an episode during season 4. It is illegal for a cartoon to advertise thier own toys and products in the United States. It seems the Disney crew forgot about this rule.
Fact #2689
In season 4 episode 6, For the first, and only time, Launchpad lands safely. Ironically, it happened when he tried to crash on purpose.
Fact #2690
The characters of Ma Beagle, Fenton Crackshell and Bubba the CaveDuck were original characters created for the show.
Fact #2691
Webby Vanderquack is based on Daisy Duck's nieces April, May, and June.
Fact #2692
In the Carl Barks comics the money in Scrooge's money bin is mostly silver and copper; almost none of it is gold as in the cartoon.
Fact #2693
Disney invested a far greater amount of money into the TV series than had previously been spent on animated shows of the time. This was considered a risky move, because animated TV series were generally considered low-budget investments for most of the history of TV cartoons up through the 1980s.
Fact #2694
Composer Ron Jones cited Raiders of the Lost Ark as an influence on the series' score.
Fact #2695
Disney recreated the intro of "DuckTales" using real ducks.
Fact #2696
Ducktales and Chip 'n Dale were the first cartoons to premier in the Soviet Union since the Cold War started.
Fact #2697
Another interesting foreign language note about Ducktales is that it's one of the few cartoons shown in Spain that used the Latin American dubbing instead of being dubbed by a local team.
Fact #2698
Ducktales has been named one of the best animated shows of all time.
Fact #2699
There is a Ducktales video game!
Fact #2700
Ducktales is coming back in 2017!
