Fact #3221 

After the release of the film, the chairs in the dining room were later added to both the Disneyland Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. In the Haunted Mansion, the chair appears in a portrait of the updated attic, belonging to one of the bride's murdered husbands.

When the two new homeowners start singing: "Happy Anniversary!" and Jim reacts very annoyed, it's a tongue-in-cheek joke about a commercial that aired on the radio for the Disneyland theme park anniversary, sung the exact same way by a child. The commercial was reacted to badly by listeners because it was so obnoxious and eventually pulled.

Following the massive success of Ghostbusters in 1984, Disney green-lit the film in the mid 80s. However they at first would only give permission for the film to be made if either Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis or Rick Moranis would play the lead role.

Previously, Eddie Murphy had developed a stand-up routine that lampooned the unrealistic premise of horror movies and specifically haunted houses in Eddie Murphy Delirious in 1983 suggesting that black people would never be featured in such a movie as they would immediately leave upon sighting anything supernatural.

The "Welcome foolish mortals" voice-over during the opening titles was provided by an uncredited Corey Burton, who also voiced the Ghost Host for Haunted Mansion Holiday, a seasonal overlay of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion attraction themed to The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Much of the movie's plot is inspired by Phantom Manor, the version of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Resort Paris. Unlike the Haunted Mansions in the other parks, Phantom Manor has a clear storyline of a bride, her lost lover, and her haunting the mansion.

When Leota is in the front seat of the automobile, the air bag is still full. Air bags will deploy and then immediately deflate to prevent people (or women in crystal balls) from being trapped.

The working title of the Haunted Mansion was "ghost house" and Walt Disney started working on the plans for the attraction before Disneyland's opening, way back in 1951. Initially it was going to be a walk through experience.

The ghost blowing out a birthday cake is blowing out a cake with 13 candles. Also if you look at the banquet table, you might see a hidden Mickey. The plates are arranged in classic Mickey shapes.

The original concept of the Haunted Mansion was to be up the hill from a church and graveyard in Disneyland. The earliest concept of the ride was sketched by Disney Legend Harper Goff years before Disneyland opened.

The Haunted Mansion at Tokyo Disneyland at Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Japan might look familiar to Disney World visitors, it's outward design and style is very much like the design of the mansion at the Magic Kingdom in Florida. At Disneyland Paris, the Haunted Mansion goes by the name Phantom Manor It looks, at first glance, to be more reminiscent of the house in Hitchcock's Psycho.

One of the Mansion's ghosts didn't stay very long. The original Disneyland ride featured a spectre known as the Hatbox Ghost, who stood in the attic not far from the Bride. As guests rode past, the ghost's head was supposed to disappear, then reappear inside of a hatbox he was holding. Unfortunately, the effect never worked well enough for the ghost's real head to disappear completely. The Hatbox Ghost was quickly removed from the ride and never seen again, though Haunted Mansion fans still hold out hope that he'll return someday.
