Chapter 18 - Denial

I know I said I would give Jasmine space so she could process - but I was very impatient, and she hadn't really given me an answer. And while it was incredibly likely that she didn't like me, considering her reaction to my confession - I had somehow managed to convince myself that her denial of my feelings was a result of her having similar feelings. Or at least some sort of attraction towards me.

How could she not? I was a snack. Drop-dead gorgeous

She still rejected you.

I shook away the thought. She hadn't rejected me - she had simply refused to believe that I was in love with her and laughed at my confession - that technically wasn't rejection, so I still had a chance. A very small chance, but it was better than nothing.

Maybe I should try seducing her. While I would inevitably fail, she may find me pathetic enough to agree to date me - even if only out of pity. I was desperate

'Jasmine - are you here?' I'd been scouring the entire school for Jasmine, to little success. I was beginning to question if she was still on school grounds. 'Jasmine!'

'Shut up.' I looked at Jasmine, who was hidden in the shadows, sitting in the janitor's closet, completely unperturbed by the stench, which was downright nasty. Though to be fair, her basement was much worse, so this was practically nothing to her.

'What are you doing here?' I asked. A stupid question, considering she had a book on her lap, that she had probably been reading while I interrupted her.

'Reading.' Her blue eyes flicked to the door, which was still cracked open. 'Close the door and sit.' I did exactly as she ordered, closing the door before taking a seat beside her, trying not to stare at her like the creep I was. 'Why did you do it?'

'What?'

'Why did you do it?' repeated Jasmine, snapping her book shut as she turned to look at me, icy eyes looked with my own green ones. 'Why did you lie?'

'I didn't lie.' Jasmine scoffed in disbelief, still in denial about my earlier statement. 'I love you,' I said, speaking as sincerely as I could.

'No, you don't.' This was starting to get annoying.

'Then why did I confess?' She stared at me, and I could practically see the cogs turning behind her blue eyes. She had pretty eyes.

'Because...' she stammered, clearly unable to think of a viable reason, 'you just can't be in love with me,' she said, throwing her arms out in exasperation. 'You're just so...' Her face flushed red, and her voice became so quiet, I had to strain my ears to hear what she said next, 'good-looking.'

She thinks I'm good-looking.

'And you're so charming, and funny even if you annoy me so much.'

She thinks I'm good-looking.

'And I want to hate you, but you're so weirdly likeable.'

She thinks I'm good-looking.

'And even if you're stupid, I like spending time with you. Is that normal?' She turned to look at me.

'You think I'm good-looking,' I whispered. She looked frustrated, shaking her head but there was still a slight smile on her face. 'Wait... does that mean you like me?' It wasn't love - but it was something. More than I could've hoped for at least.

'Not in the slightest, Cameron.'

Don't cry

'I just...' She looked confused. 'This shouldn't be happening. It's not normal.'

'So, I can't be in love with you?' She looked at me - blue eyes shining. So very pretty

'You've only known me for a month,' she said. 'You can't just fall in love with me like that.' She snapped her fingers to add to the effect. 'You just think you're in love. But it's not. You just like the challenge. It's all basic psychology.'

'I don't think,' I said, frustrated once more. This girl was so... irritating. Why was she so determined to prove I wasn't in love with her? She could just reject me and move on - that would honestly be better than her denial. 'I am in love with you.' I paused. 'Why don't you like me?'

'Because you're stupid and cliche.' She really had no filter.

'I'm not stupid.' Or I would've dropped out years ago. 'And I'm not cliche. Stop making assumptions about me.' Jasmine looked at me, an eyebrow raised.

'Black leather jacket. Sleeps around. Hopeless flirt. In "love" with the good girl.' She scrunched up her nose slightly as if she found the idea disgusting. 'Sounds pretty cliche to me, I wouldn't be surprised if you told me you had a motorbike.' She had a point.

'Well, there's a lot about me you don't know,' I said. She rolled her eyes, and honestly, I began wondering how I fell in love with this girl. 'Non-bad boy things.'

'I doubt that,' I heard her mumble.

'I like watching telenovelas.' Jasmine's jaw dropped

'What?'

'I learnt Spanish so I could watch them without subtitles,' I said. Jasmine was staring at me - eyes widened with shock. 'I like listening to Taylor Swift songs.' Only Elijah knew this, and he teased me relentlessly over it. 'I want to become an author.' I looked at Jasmine, tucking a strand of her black hair behind her ear. 'I love you, why don't you believe me?'

She looked speechless. Robbed of her ability to speak. My revelations may have been a bit too much for me to handle. She finally managed to speak - to choke out a few distinguishable words.

'You don't.'

Jasmine was stubborn. I had to give her that. But fortunately for her, I was just as stubborn. It wasn't usually a good trait - but in this instance, it will work out in my favor.

'You'll see,' I said, standing up slowly so I don't hit my head on the low hanging light of the janitor's closet. It smelled horrible. I was definitely showering once I got home. 'You should shower.' Why did I say that?

'Gee thanks,' said Jasmine sarcastically, rolling her eyes at my statement. 'You're so great at charming women.' She looked at me, her blue eyes icy. 'We'll both forget this conversation, right?' I smiled mockingly at her.

'And forget how good-looking you think I am?' She blushed. 'Don't worry, everyone thinks I'm hot.'

'Not when they find out you watch telenovelas.'

'I'll forget this conversation.'

A/N:

I haven't updated in long. Again

And, we can all see how much in denial Jasmine is. I know I haven't released, or even written the chapters in Jasmine's POV, but I like Cameron's POV so much more. So, I'm actually supposed to be doing a bunch of different homework stuff.

Like, I have a poster to make for my science project, and I'm also supposed to make a stop-motion all of which are due at some point this week which is just great. And I'm writing this instead.

So, I'm going to give some pick-up lines, because I really need to start doing my work and stop procrastinating.

By the way - don't use these pick-up lines.

Would you like to try an Australian kiss? It's like a French kiss, but down under

The only reason I put this pick-up line is because I'm Australian. Legally. I've been here for roughly nine years, and only became legally Australian last year.

Is your name winter? Because you'll be coming soon.

I will not be paying for any therapy that will be needed by the time the book has been read. And I refuse to apologize for these, because I spent ten minutes searching for a good pick-up line.

I promise I'll update the chapters more often. And if you're reading Disgustingly Cliche, sorry for the spoilers.

Here's a song to make up for it.

Don't judge.
