Five: Talking
"Is there something you guys want to tell me?" I ask the blonde and brunette as we hide in the bathroom during lunch. They hesitate in answering. "Come on," I beg. The blonde says that she's questioning her sexuality and wants to kiss me to see if she's a lesbian. The brunette says that she's liked me since the sixth grade.
I don't know what to say.
The blonde is testing the waters. The brunette actually likes me. I can manage with this. I tell the blonde that we can kiss for a few minutes. We do, and sparks shoot up my spine.
It's like fireworks are shooting up into the sky. Kissing her seems right. Then she pulls away, confirming that she's straight. "But I'll be an ally," she says. The brunette kisses me now, but there are no sparks.
No feelings at all for the brunette. I inform them, but the brunette doesn't feel bad. "It was only a crush," she says, shrugging her shoulders. We exit the bathroom, my heart feeling lighter. Everything's fine now.
The blonde is straight but an ally. The brunette only had a crush but is going to move on. Everything's okay now. My world is stable. I smile to myself.
Nothing's going wrong. Sure, there were a few homophobic comments thrown at me. But I ignored them. My year's good. I'm okay, and I'm ready to come out of the closet again.
