Meeting Family
Imogen
For some reason, I expected to wake up on Christmas morning with my mother waiting for me by the tree. Then it dawned on me that she wasn't here with us anymore. When I reached down the stairs, our plain tree had one simple gift. Rebel wasn't able to afford a gigantic tree without skipping out on groceries. I'm always used to having an enormous one, but I didn't want to complain about it. I had no motivation to decorate it, leaving Rebel to place a star on top.
There was a note on the gift from Rebel. "Sorry to leave you alone. I got called into work this morning. I hope you like it. Love you!"
The worst feeling is spending a holiday alone with no one. Still, I had to be grateful for the blessings in my life. I opened the gift to find an adorable denim jacket under the Christmas wrapping paper. Wrapping paper was over the floor before I opened mine. An empty box sat under the tree. He must have opened my gift. I used my monthly allowance to purchase a fresh pair of black combat boots because those were his favorite.
------------
My favorite gift was a necklace in the shape of a heart that read "Forever." I haven't taken it off since he put it around my neck on Christmas eve. My life almost feels like a romantic movie once you get past all the people attacking me left and right. I got him a ring inscribed with "I" and a heart around it.
Also, I brought a couple of blouses to help with his fashion game. Drew got me a bracelet that said "my princess." I put it on so I wouldn't make Drew feel lousy, but I don't wear it when I'm hanging out with Lucas. He also made me feel guilty for buying me an expensive gift while I brought him a gift card.
Frankie has been M.I.A lately, barley responding to my messages. She was acting unusually; she never went this long without responding to me. Usually, she would text me if something came up, but now nothing. I have sent many messages which read delivered but still nothing. I even had to restore to send a message to Drew asking if he knew where Frankie was.
Chosen one.
Those words kept running through my brain when my eyes shut. Apparently Rebel or I could be a chosen one. Chosen one for what, though? What is expected from the chosen one? Are we supposed to save the world or something? Honestly, what should I expect? My life these days has been unpredictable.
"Imogen, your report card is here!!" Rebel yelled.
The sudden urge to throw up appeared as I walked downstairs to open the letter. Lately, I haven't been keeping up with my grades, which meant they have dropped. There hasn't been a week since my mother died that I went to school for a full week. That's bound to affect my school grades.
"You got to be kidding me," I groaned, crushing the paper and threw it in the garage.
"Did you fail?" He asked, pouring himself a bowl of cereal.
"I failed mostly every class," I sighed, pushing my hair back. "I just haven't bothered to study with everything going on," I pouted, regretting my decision to sleep instead of studying.
"You better get those grades up." Rebel pointed at me with his spoon.
I'm so embarrassed. How did I manage to date one of the sharpest boys in school but still manage to fail? He always came over to study with me, but I always suggested to start watching films. He missed a suitable amount of the year, but he's always on top of everything. If only his organization rubbed off on me. My thoughts got interrupted when I heard a knock on the door.
"I got it," I told Rebel, who was enjoying his bowl of cereal on the island countertop.
"Hey," I said, batting my eyelashes.
"My family wanted to invite your family over for dinner tonight. At my house?" He asked.
Wow, the day has finally come, I'm going to meet my boyfriend's parents. Gosh, I wondered if they will like me and accept me.
"I'll ask if he's able to come," I said, rushing towards Rebel who eyes widened at the sight of me.
"Are you busy? Lucas's family wants us to come over for dinner." I asked.
Rebel gave a nodded of approval, and I wandered back to Lucas.
"Sure, what time?"
"Six. Thanks, Imi, I got to go help get dinner ready," he pecked my lips and walked back to his car. He kept looking back and waving at me before driving away.
After he left, I dashed upstairs and took a shower, and removing my necklace and bracelet, placing it on my towel. My nerves were on edge, imaging scenarios of meeting them. I don't know what to expect, but I hope they're nothing like Frankie's parents.
After my shower, I started throwing my clothes all over the floor. I wasn't sure which outfit was appropriate to wear to his parents' house. What outfit said, I want you to accept me into your family because I care about your son and want to keep dating him?
Finally, after countless hours of searching, I decided on a denim matching skirt and top. The top was a crop top, so I decided to wear a white tee under to not reveal much skin. I attempted about twenty different hairstyles, but none of them turned out the way I liked it. At this rate, we were going to arrive late, so I tied my hair into a ponytail. I grabbed my bracelet from the bathroom and sprayed floral perfume.
-------------------
"Sorry, we took so long," I said.
We made it in time with just five minutes to spare.
"You got here on perfect timing," He kissed my cheek and let us in.
My eyes widened when I walked into his enormous living room. The living room was painfully white with two flat-screens TV plastered on the wall. They had reclined couches taking over most of the room. In front of the couch was an immense glass coffee table with lamps. The hallway leading down to the dining room had magnificent chandeliers in the ceiling, along with aesthetic paintings.
"This way," Lucas said.
The rectangle wooden table that was covered with a crimson tablecloth occupied the dining room. About five butlers kept exiting the kitchen and out to the dinner, setting up the table. They stocked the table with wine, beer, and fruit drinks. So far all I could see was veal, steak, and duck. The aroma was causing my stomach to ache and my mouth to water.
"Here, give me your jackets," Lucas said, putting his hands out for Rebel's jacket, then mine, and passed them to his butler.
"Sit here," Lucas said, pulling out the chair for me.
"Glad to finally meet you." She said. "The food is almost ready," Lucas's mom smiled, coming out from the kitchen.
"Hi Mrs. Hastings, I'm Imogen," I said, getting up from my chair and walking towards her.
"Don't be so formal, just call me Jojo," she said with a bright smile, pulling me into an enormous hug, "Lucas always talks about you!" I felt my cheek start heating up. She released me from the hug and went back into the kitchen.
"Lucas, go get your sister!"
Lucas never mentioned having a sister; they must not be close. Once she yelled her name, she came storming down the stairs. Her long wavy sun-bleached hair flowing past her shoulders. She had blue eyes, just like Lucas. She ignored Lucas and walked straight to the kitchen.
"Mom, do I really have to be here?" she groaned, loud enough for all of us to hear.
"Yes, come on its important to your brother," Jojo said.
"He doesn't even want me to meet them. You do," she whined.
She came out of the kitchen with a plate of potato skins and placed them on the table.
"Rebel?" She said in a shocked tone. Her eyes widened open along with her mouth. Her hands trembled, causing the plate of potato skins to fall down onto the ground.
"Emma? When did you come back?" Rebel said, lifting from his chair.
The youthful woman who is Lucas's sister was the girl my brother fell for. What a small world. If she disappeared, how was she here? Why didn't she tell him she was here? Is she not in love with him anymore? Maybe Rebel didn't look hard enough.
"Emma, we need to talk." Rebel said walking towards her.
"No. I don't want to talk. I'm sorry," she voiced, sounding on the verge of tears.
Rebel
When I heard her voice I knew it was her. When she appeared in front of me, I felt like time stopped and my heart dropped to the floor. I felt my breath get caught in my throat, my hands get all clammed up. I really thought I wouldn't be able to see her again. It's been three years and yet she just managed to get even more beautiful. I need to know why she didn't come searching for me. Was I the only one hopelessly in love?
"Emma, can we talk?" I said walking towards her. I noticed her eyes filling up with emotions she was trying to hide.
"No. I don't want to talk, I'm sorry." She said with tears in her eyes walking outside, but I went after her. After so long, I owe her to keep fighting for her.
"Emma, stop please," I said running towards her.
"What do you want me to say, Rebel?" She said biting her bottom lip, keeping her gaze away from mine.
"Why did you leave?" I asked.
"I had to. I can't tell you I'm not allowed to." She looked up at me and she put her hand on my cheek. "Just know I never stop loving you." She said, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm not letting you leave!" I said, grabbing her hand.
"Rebel, I'm sorry if I hurt you. But trust me, this isn't easy; leaving you again," she whimpered, causing my heart to shatter into pieces.
"Don't leave then! Emma, I'm still in love with you," I confessed.
"I don't want to, but I have to," I grabbed her by her chin and pressed my lips to hers. Her lips curled perfectly onto mine, I felt the same thing I felt years back. I couldn't lose her again. When I found her I was in a depressed state and she helped me through it.
"Please don't leave," I said, connecting our foreheads.
"Fine, I won't," she sobbed.
"I'm so lucky to have found you again," I whispered, pulling her into my arms, and held her till I couldn't anymore.
Imogen
We all watched Rebel embracing Emma in his arms. Both of them crying their hearts out and making our hearts melt in the process. Is that how Lucas and I look when we are together? Rebel seemed so much happier in just five minutes of them reuniting. Hopefully, Emma is here to stay because she makes my brother so thrilled.
"After three years of being apart, they still love each other," I said admiring them.
"They must be made for each other," Lucas said, pecking my cheek.
"They are soulmates," I said, lacing our fingers together.
"Time to eat!" Jojo said.
We each took our seats on the table. Lucas's father also joined once he arrived from work. The butlers kept going around with plates of food. It was like endless food going around, I could get used to this.
"Wow, everything is wonderful! Can I please take some home?" I asked, struggling to breathe in my now tight skirt.
I was getting stuffed already but haven't made it to dessert yet.
"Of course. Take as much as you can carry," Jojo smiled. "Thank you for coming!"
-----
"Thank you for having me!" I gave his mother a goodbye hug. Right after dinner, his dad went straight to his study, and I didn't want to interrupt him.
"Come back whenever you want," she said and went back to the kitchen.
"Can you come over tomorrow?" I asked Lucas.
"Of course," he kissed my cheek causing them to change from pale to maroon. No matter how many kisses I get, my heart fluttered every time.
"You always make me blush," I smiled, admiring his sea-blue eyes
"You make me forgot how to talk," he said, swinging our hands. "Who got you that bracelet?"
Shit. My eyes drifted down to my hand, noticing Drew's bracelet was still on. My mind was in another world, I must have forgotten to remove it before coming here. Hopefully, he doesn't assume I prefer Drew now just because I'm wearing it.
"Oh, um, Frankie," I mumbled.
"Was it Drew?" He said eyeing me. I bit my lip and nodded slightly. I felt his hold slightly tense up and his jaw was flared up.
"It's not a big deal," I assured, regretted that I lied.
He can't possibly think that because I'm wearing his bracelet means I like him more. It was a simple mistake, something I'm going to regret for the days coming.
"But why aren't you wearing what I got you?" Lucas questioned, his eyebrow raised.
"What do you mean, I sho-" my hands reached up to my neck, and felt nothing but bare skin. I must have left it in the bathroom. "I had it on this morning. I must have forgotten."
"You better get going. Goodnight, Imogen," he sighed.
"Lucas, please don't be mad or jealous. The bracelet doesn't even matter," I said.
"I'm tired. Maybe I will come over tomorrow, I'm not sure." He faltered, shutting the door in my face.
-------------------------
"Where were you guys?" Drew said, sitting on our porch bench.
"Can you leave? I'm not really in the mood," I said, following behind Rebel.
"Princess don't be a bitch. Glad to see you like my bracelet," he smirked, reaching for the bracelets and touched the dangling charms. I pulled my hand away from his grip. I unclasped the bracelet from my wrist and threw it at him.
"What the hell!?!" He yelled, lowering himself down to pick up the bracelet.
"I don't want the stupid bracelet. " I snapped.
"Did your so-called Prince dump you?" He smirked, playing with the bracelet.
"No, he's not immature like you," I snapped as I walked into my house. I tried to close the door, but he stuck his foot in between to keep me from closing it. Eventually, I gave up and just let him inside.
"Princess, I will be your new prince," He pulled me in from my waist and got really close to me. I felt his breath on my exposed skin, sending shivers down my spine. My eyes mesmerized him.
"Drew, move away from my sister," Rebel said, closing the fridge.
Drew put his hands up like he was being arrested and backed away.
"Drew, have you seen Frankie? She hasn't gone to school or responded to my messages."
"I haven't actually," he said.
Frankie
I haven't been to school for a few weeks. I haven't been able to find my charger for my phone, so that's been untouched. Even since the dance, I've been waking up every morning sick to my stomach. The first thought that ran through my mind was that I ate something rotten at one of my father's interviews. But it kept happening. I'm finally starting to feel better today. It's a new year and I can't afford to miss school anymore.
"Dad, I'm going to sch-" I got cut off by the sick feeling in my stomach. I felt vomit coming up to burn my throat. I ran to the bathroom, struggling to pull the toilet seat up and release my food. I felt the burning sensation leaving my throat.
"What is wrong with my body?" I wondered, cleaning my mouth.
It's January, and I was supposed to get my period during Christmas. I never thought about it, but it hasn't shown up yet.
"My period is late," I whispered.
I had my period on time before sleeping with Drew. Does that mean I could be pregnant? I don't remember using a condom that night. To be fair, I don't remember much from that night. Even the sex was a bit foggy in my mind.
"No, no, it can't be !" I cleaned up and grabbed my bag.
I dashed down to the closest convenience store. Once I entered, I searched for the pregnancy aisle; seeking for a test. After picking four different brands, I rushed to pay and prayed no one would catch a glimpse of me. I hope no paparazzi have gotten a picture of me or my father would kill me. The worst way he can find out about this was by the paparazzi.
After paying, I pulled my hoodie up and walked back to my house. Drew was waiting outside my door, ringing the bell, but no one responded. My Butler probably went to help my mother with her things. Gladly he left, and I went straight to the bathroom after unlocking the door. After peeing on the stick, I had to wait three minutes until I find out the truth. My breaths were struggling to keep stability. My stomach was on the urge to throw up just from waiting.
"This is it!" I said, taking in a deep breath before taking a look at the stick. Immediately, tears sprung from my eyes, dropping the test and sunken down into my knees.
"It can't be true."
-------------
Nobody came home. My brother is never home, so I didn't expect him to come home. I didn't even realize it's so late until I opened my amber drapes to see the moon. I have just been sitting here crying my lungs out. My mother should be here, my father too. Abruptly, the house phone started ringing, but I had no strength to go grab it.
"Frankie, make sure your brother does somewhat well. Your mother and I have something to take care of." Then it ended.
Suddenly the doorbell rang, causing my eyebrows to knot. I quickly threw water on my face to clean up the dry stained tears.
"Frankie are you alright?" He asked.
"Drew, we need to um talk," I said attempting to hold back my tears.
Hopefully, it was great! So Frankie is pregnant. How will Drew react to it? You have to read to see it!
Does Lucas have the right to be upset?
What do you think Frankie is going to do?
