I Can't Lose You

Third Person

"The ritual is only two days away. We should all assume that Taisla plans to kill Imogen to consume her powers," Robert explained, which echoed down the halls reaching Drew who was getting a drink from the kitchen.

Everyone has been on edge, the week is dragging itself longer than normal. The group was huddled up in the navy couches in Robert's home. Robert was in the middle of the group, informing them of how everything would go down. They all had to protect each other, but Imogen was the most important. Imogen gripped the armrest tightly, along with clenching her thighs. Her heart weighed with guilt; everyone was risking their lives for her, but what happens if she isn't the chosen one they wanted.

The other families have actual families while she only had her brother. She couldn't live with the fact if anyone here dies, even Carter's annoying ass. Kate and Sawyer have children to take care of, but they are risking it all for her. Why? Is she really worth all of this?

During the last weeks, she spent them terrified. Every time she washed her hair, it would come out in clumps. During the night she would wake up from her nightmares, covered in sweat and thinking Taisla killed her. Daenerys would always rush to her room, helping her settle down, but it didn't always work. Eventually, Daenerys decided to sleep with her.

Going to school didn't help; Imogen couldn't focus on anything other than the ritual. Now, she felt at ease knowing that she had the elixir.

Drew entered the living room, his shoes tapping on the white polished floor. They filled all the couches, leaving Drew to lean back onto one of the elegant stone pedestals. The sun was shining through the beige curtains, striking right at Imogen. Drew brought his drink up to his lips, gulping it up while listening intensively.

"Why are we even letting her take Imogen's power?" Drew blurted, causing all the group's heads to turn towards him. "We can kill her today... with Frankie!"

Imogen rolled her eyes. She had almost enough of this subject with him. Why couldn't he yet understand that I didn't want to risk my best friend's life, she thought?

"Drew," Robert said, his lips straight as a line. He doesn't have the right to voice his opinion. He isn't a part of the special families so ultimately he has no vote.

"No. Frankie can't use that much power without killing herself," Imogen explained. He has to understand she makes the decisions now, and he has to suck it up and deal with it.

Drew took a sip of his juice, using his hand to wipe the excess left on his upper lips. "I'll write a great eulogy then," Drew suggested. Why didn't she understand that all he wanted is for her to be protected, he thought?

"It's not an option, Drew," Imogen shook her head, her voice laced with irritation. Drew's blood was boiling, but he sent her a half-smile to assure her.

"All right, how do we break the curse again?" Jojo asked, holding the hand of her husband. Lucas's parents missed the first meeting and lacked the knowledge that the rest of them had.

"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward," Robert stated, walking over the coffee table and reaching for the wooden box. "The ingredients, so to speak. You already know." He opened the box, revealing a cloudy, colored oval object.

"The moonstone," Carter chimed in, pushing his large lenses back. Robert held the stone up for everyone to see.

"Next we all pour some of our blood on the stone. Then a witch will channel the power of the eclipse to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, we wait until the bright light strikes Imogen and free us from the curse," Robert said, placing the stone back into the wooden box and sealing the lock.

"How does it work with Taisla?" Imogen asked, rubbing her tights with her hands.

"Taisla must drain your blood...to the point of your death," Robert confessed. Immediately Imogen tensed against Lucas, he clenched her arm against his chest. Using his other hand to intensely rub his forehead. Drew narrowed his eyes towards them.

How can they take this so lightly, he wondered?

Imogen exhaled, tilting her head. She turned towards her and said, "That's where you come in." She watched as Katherine opened a black rectangular box, displaying the crystal container.

"This is the elixir that my sister prepared over 1000 years ago for Elise. From what I read it contains mystical properties of resuscitation," she explained, carefully twirling the container in her hands.

"So she'll be dead," Daenerys asked, placing her hand on my shoulder and giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"And then she won't," Katherine answered, watching Imogen's reaction. Imogen's chocolate eyes widened from the new information. At least having some hope she could come back to life kept her at ease, but not everyone approved it.

Drew scoffed, placing his glass mug on the table making a clink echo through the room. "That's your plan? A magical potion with no expiration date?" He walked closer to Imogen, staring intensely in her eyes. "You want to come back to life, try the same spell Frankie did," Drew suggested. Imogen tilted her head, considering the idea until.

"She can't, those spells don't work on the chosen one. We could try it but odds are it won't work," Katherine chimed in, darting her eyes between Drew and Imi.

Drew rolled his eyes, narrowing them at Katherine. "I'll take those odds over your elixir." He shifted his gaze to Imogen, pleading with her to rethink her decision. "What if it doesn't work, Imi," he said, gnawing at his lips.

Imogen sighed, her perfectly arched brows raised, and she brushed her fingers through her brown hair. She clasped her fingers together, trying to form words. "Then I-I guess I'll just be dead," she blurted out.

Drew's eyes widened in disbelief. How could she be so careless with her life, he wondered? He glanced towards Lucas, raising one of his brows and motioned for him to speak some sense into her. However, Lucas tilted his head, his lips formed into a straight line and motioned back to him. There was nothing Lucas could do to change his girlfriend's mind. Of course, he doesn't want her to die, but he had to respect the decision she made and continue fighting for her.

Drew glared at the couple before proceeding to exit the room.

Imogen exhaled, her hands rapidly rubbing her thighs. "Do you think Taisla has her own group?" she asked.

"Taisla has been waiting for over thousands of years to kill the chosen one. She probably gained a mass amount of followers especially being one of the first witches. My guess is we won't be the only people protecting our loved ones," Robert commented.

--------

After the discussion, Robert and Daenerys cooked a glorious breakfast for everyone. They were doing the finishing touches while everyone else gathered on the dinner table. The smell of pancakes, crepes, bacon, and more wafted through the room. Causing everyone's stomach to grumble and the children to complain.

Sawyer tried keeping his children from having a tantrum but eventually, he ignored them, leaving Kate to take care of them. Luckily Sun offered to calm down her daughter while Sawyer had to listen to a mouthful of Kate's complaints.

Lucas moved the chair, leaving an opening for Imogen to sit down in. Imi sat down next to Katherine, feeling Lucas's hands on her shoulder. He gave her a squeeze and she looked up at him. She smiled at him, placing her hand over his.

"I'm going to go check on Drew," Lucas said, staring into her soulful eyes.

Imogen nodded, feeling a peck on her head. Her eyes followed his body as he stepped out the backdoor. Imogen removed her hair tie from her wrist and used it to tie her brown hair into a ponytail. "You'd think he'd understand why I'm willing to do this.." Imogen said, side-eyeing Katherine.

"Why are you?" she asked, folding the large white cloth and placing it down on her lap.

She caught Imogen's full attention, causing her to shift her body towards her. Imogen fidgeted with her other hair tie, delicately snapping against her wrist. "I'm the key to all of this. Taisla is here because of me. If I don't stop her, then she's going to keep going after the people I care about. It's that simple," Imogen stated, shrugging her shoulders.

Katherine scooted closely over to her, trying to not have anyone else hear the conversation. "You know, there's a possibility this elixir won't work... I don't want to mislead you," Kat said, waiting for Imogen to look up and see her reaction. She never planned to hide it from her but she had to make it known.

Imogen's eyes shot up, "I understand the stakes."

-------

Drew swirled his whiskey drink in his hand, admiring the plain sky. The sky was like a cloudless diamonds, clear and shining. Different shades of blue meshed into the sky. The sky helped Drew feel at peace even if it was just for several moments. The whiskey was what really kept him sane at this point. He heard the door slam behind him, but he didn't tear his eyes from the teal sky.

"Alcohol this early in the morning," a familiar voice yelled.

Drew consumed his drink to soothe his blood that urged to boil over. "I'm surrounded by idiots. I need all the help I can get." Drew noticed from the corner of his eyes that Lucas stood next to him. He was leaning back against the concrete pillar that held up the deck.

Lucas sighed. "You know, you're not helping," he said, glancing away from Drew to the view he was admiring.

Drew rolled his eyes, turning his body to face him. "Katherine kidnapped Imogen. Does no one remember that? She only being nice because she's in love with Rebel. Are you going to believe her?" Drew aggressively asked.

Lucas lifted himself up from the pillar. "What do you want me to do, Drew? Lucas frustratedly answered. "Imogen made her decision. She's choosing to trust Katherine. I'm going to be my faith in her."

Drew furrowed his brows."Why? She's going to end up dead." he asked, waving his drink around causing it to slip slightly on the floor.

Lucas forced his fingers through his blonde locks. "Because she put her faith in me," he flicked his hands towards himself. "She chose to trust me with her secrets in spite of only knowing each other for a few short weeks. If I'm going to bet on somebody's instincts, it would be hers."

Even if Lucas doesn't agree with her actions; he trusted her and knew she's doing the right thing. If she believed trusting Katherine was the best choice then she must be right. And that everything will turn out alright. Imogen doesn't need anyone doubting right now not after all she's been through.

"Well then, that makes you the biggest idiot of them all." Drew sneered, his emerald eyes boring into his.

Lucas tilted his head, his lips parted. "You know...she chose to trust you too," Lucas said.

"Then maybe you shouldn't trust her instincts," Drew snapped, chugging his whiskey and throwing the remaining all over the deck. He narrowed his eyes towards the blonde boy and proceeded to go inside.

-----

Finally, the entire group was blessed with breakfast. Imogen finished consuming five pancakes, four pieces of bacon, two donuts, and refried beans. Her pants were pushing against her stomach making it harder to breathe. Imogen hadn't noticed how much she actually ate. The past week, she barely was able to hold her food down. But now she almost consumed enough food for several children.

Imogen noticed Drew never joined in during breakfast; he must be in his room, she thought. Why does he always have to make matters twenty times more difficult? Imogen lifted herself from her seat, bending down closer to Lucas's ear.

"I'll be right back," I whispered, walking towards the hallway. She walked down the crimson wide hallway, leading up to the stairs. She wandered up the stairs, gathering her thoughts and concerns. Once she reached the second level, Imi turned down the hall in search of Drew's room. Imogen recently went to his room but the house was massive and easy to get lost in it.

Glady, Imi was able to traced her steps back to his room. She leaned her hand on the doorframe, noticing how Drew was staring out into the wilderness. "You disappeared," Imogen blurted out, entering the room without his approval.

Drew's arms were crossed back against his chest as he admired the blazing sky. He continued to face away from her. "I don't want to hear anymore," he said.

Imogen continued in, her sneakers causing the wooden planks to creak. She had her hands placed in her back pocket as she walked. "I need you to understand why I'm doing this," Imogen admitted. Deep down, she valued his opinion along with her other loved ones.

Drew uncrossed his arms and turned his head around to meet her gaze. "Why? It clearly doesn't matter what I think," he said, raising his eyebrows and his body walking closer to the bed that was set in the middle of the room.

"I'll be fine, Drew," she said, walking towards the bed and leaned her hips on the wooden stand. "I'll drink the elixir, Frankie will kill Taisla, and then all of this will finally be over," Imogen stated.

Drew furrowed his eyebrows. "If it works," he said.

One of Imi's eyebrows raised. "It will work," she replied, her arms crossed on her chest.

Drew's patience as ran thin, his blood was boiling throughout him. He no longer could hide the anger he felt inside of him. "You think it will work. You want it to work. Why am I the only one convinced it won't?" he paused for two seconds. "There has to be another way."

Imogen shook her head. "There isn't."

He proceeded to close the distance between them, standing just a few inches away. "Then you're going to die, Imogen."

"And then I will come back to life," Imogen answered, removing her hips from the wooden stand.

Drew was even closer to her now, pointing out his pointer finger. "That's not a risk I'm willing to take," he demanded.

Imogen wrapped her hands around his. "But I am," she said, exhaling a breath. Drew glanced down towards their hands, his eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. Suddenly, the anger he felt was lingering away because of her tender touch. "It's my life, Drew...My choice," she added, rubbing his hand softly.

His angered filled eyes soften against her as he kept his gaze with her. "I can't lose you," he whispered.

Imogen puffed out her cheeks, and let out a sigh. How was she supposed to answer that?

"You won't," she assured him. They continued gazing into each other's eyes for several peaceful moments before Imogen released his hands and started walking away.

He never realized how much of an effect the girl had on him until now. He couldn't lose, he couldn't watch her risk her life for everyone. Suddenly, a plan entered his head and nothing was going to stop him from completing it. Drew watched her starting to exit the room but before she can head out he whispered: "I'm not letting you go through with it." He rushed down the stairs, searching for one person.

There in the kitchen stood the girl he's been seeking for. Her brown hair curls dangled on her shoulders as she was slicing up an orange. "Katherine! Just the girl I was looking for," he said, a devilish smile on his lips.

Katherine finished up slicing the orange and popped a piece into her mouth. Drew noticed the elixir was right next to her. "Why are you looking for me?" she mumbled, raising her brow and popping another piece into her mouth.

Drew raised one of his eyebrows, leaning his back on the counter. "I'm surprised you're still helping Imogen knowing her brother cheated on you multiple times."

Katherine choked on her orange, spitting it out in the sink. "What do you mean cheated on me?" Katherine's eyes expressed fury, wanting to stab her so-called "boyfriend".

"Drew what are you doing," Imogen asked, entering the kitchen.

"Rebel and Frankie kissed- well made out. Why do you think he's taking care of her now? Because they dating behind you're back," Drew informed her.

Of course, they were lies but he would do anything to make her furious.

"Drew stop it! It's not true Katerin-," Imi words were cut off by a knife landing right next to her head. Her eyes widened, glancing over to the knife that was inches from her head. Katherine was fuming, the only thing she could see was red.

"You didn't tell me because you wanted to use me right! How could I've been so stupid to fall for someone as cruel and disgusting as your brother?" she unlocked the container holding the elixir. "I hope Taisla kills you and you're naive group," she sneered, throwing the elixir down at the ground causing it to shatter in pieces. Before leaving, she used her magic to grab a knife from the drawer and jabbed it into Imogen.

Imogen's eyes open wide, backing into the refrigerator and slide down to the ground. Roughly pulling the knife out from her stomach, watching the blood ooze out of her like watering pouring out of a hose. Katherine ran out of the room, grabbing her belongs and rushed to her car.

All the commotion was noticed by the other guests. A concerned Lucas turned to see Katherine running out of the room. His heart plummeted to his stomach as rushed out from his seat and into the room. Once he entered the room, he heard the glass cracking under his feet. His eyes widened seeing a bleeding Imogen on the ground.

He reached down, rubbing her back with his hand. "What did you do?" he spat, altering his gaze up to Drew.

"I saved her life! I did what I had to do! You're so bent on dying, now you can just call everything off," Drew answered, his eyes bulging from their sockets.

Lucas glanced, lifting her chin and checking if she was okay. The blood stopped oozing out from her stomach but she was trembling on the floor. "It's too late for her to back out now... How could you, of all people, take that choice away from her?" Lucas raged.

Imogen's eyes exploded with tears as she tried picking up the pieces of glass. Her only hope was now shattered because of him. She glared towards him, pulling her knees into her chest and hugging them.

"Go ahead, wish me an eternity of misery. Believe me, you'll get over it," Drew said, watching the tear-stained girl. Drew rushed towards Lucas put his arm on his chest, pinning him to the wall. "Admit it, you just wish you had the balls to do it yourself," Drew fumed.

Lucas felt his body starting to shake with adrenaline. His heart rate increased his teeth and jaw clenching, gnashing together. Lucas no longer could see anything but red. Anger was like a light switch. All you need is to push the wrong button and something sends electricity to your spine and right now Drew just pressed that button.

Lucas aggressively pushed his arm off, making Drew stumble back. Lucas grunted, winding his arm back and with all his strength slammed his fist against his face. He proceeded to punch Drew back and forth across his face, his eyes murderous. The punch causing Drew to stumble and fall onto the countertop.

Pent up aggression still lingered, Lucas, starting winding his arm up again. But before he could land another punch on him. He was met with a knife plunged into his stomach, gazing up to see Drew sinister look.

Imogen yelled, "Drew no!" Darting towards Lucas, holding his body up as he slid down to his knees. Lucas's face was scrunted up, tears brimming in his eyes, and continuously grunting leaving his mouth. Imogen pushed Drew off, glancing back to Lucas, seeing the pain he was in made her heartache. "Get out of here!" Imogen spat, narrowing her eyes towards Drew.

Drew whipped his bloody nose, spitting out the blood that was in his mouth.

"What the hell's going on," Robert shouted, flinging the door open. Behind him were the rest of the group, wondering what was happening in the kitchen.

"Just get him out of here!" Imogen demanded. Robert rushed over to Drew, trying to help him but he aggressively pulled himself back. Causing Robert's body to jolt back, putting his hands up in defeat. Drew picked himself and started stumbling out of the room.

Imogen pulled the knife causing loud grunts to leave from his lips. Lucas collapsed his body on the floor, his head leaning on her lap as she kept continuously assuring him. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Lucas sniffled.

"Shh... It's okay," Imogen assured.

----

Drew was grabbing his coat and keys getting ready to exit the house.

"Well, you just made everything difficult. The elixir was her only hope but you took that away from her," Daenerys scolded.

Drew rolled his eyes, walking back to the alcohol bar. He opened the bottle of whiskey, pouring some into their glass cups. "We both know that elixir wouldn't have worked anyway." Drew blurted, drinking the whiskey in one go.

Daenerys sighed, "The problem, Drew... You talk a good game but you don't actually know anything. She'll never forgive you for this," Daenerys admitting, those words clung on his heart and she knew it. Drew turned back to face her. "And for the dead never is an eternity," she stated, exiting out the living room.

Drew was left there confused and regretful. Letting every word sink in into his mind. Maybe his plan wasn't a good idea...

~~~~~~
Katherine parked her car, rushing inside her small confided house. She harshly slammed the door, leaning her back against and raising her hands to her dripping eyes. She covered her eyes, making herself see shapes in the darkness. She sniffled, removing her hand from her eyes and wiped her nose.
She groaned, stomping her way down the hallway to her room. She collapsed in her bed, gripping her pillow tightly. The pillow was being soaked with her tainted tears. Streams of tears flowed faster than her heartbeat.
"Jenny what happened," she said, stumbling from the closet of her room.
She was hiding in her closet, just in case Jenny brought someone home with her. She scrunched her eyebrows, creeping over towards her and debated over touching her.
"Rebel cheated on me! With Frankie! Of all people," She sobbed which was muffled from the pillow.
Katherine rolled her eyes, groaning as she sunk into the beanbag chair on the floor. "I told you Rebel wasn't to be trusted. And to think that you helped his bitch ass sister too," she grumbled, admiring her newly done nails.
"Don't worry! I destroyed the potion, so she's fucked," Jenny sniffled, lifting her face from the pillow.
Katherine jolted up from the beanbag chair, going to kneel down by the side of the bed. She dried Jenny's tears, making her sister feel somewhat better. "Don't worry babe! Someone contacted me that they wanted to meet and they plan to hurt them," Katherine devilishly smirked.
"What? Who? When?" Jenny asked, watching a group arrive behind her sister. Her eyes widened, seeing them magically appear.
"Right now, actually," she said, turning around raising her eyebrow. "Taisla! Nice to see you again," she gritted her teeth.
Taisla stood right in front of them, along with two other people and Jenny knew one of them. The long blonde locks that irritated her, her small button nose, and high cheekbones. How she was so perfect in every way clearly the perfect girl for him. She was the girl who used to date her boyfriend. Well, her ex-boyfriend.
"Emma? What are you doing working for Taisla? What about Rebel?" Jenny jolted up from her bed. Emma has always played the good girl card but she knew deep down something was wrong with her.
She stared towards Taisla, how her smile lines and forehead lines were so apparent. She was shorter than her, making her seem less intimidating. Her long black hair flowing perfectly on her black robe. Taisla had a smile upon her face, her eyes turning into little crescents that matched her pink plump lips.
"This is bigger than Rebel. We can't let his sister become the most powerful human. Taisla is what the world needs and wants and we will deliver it to them," she sinister smirked, walking closer to Jenny. Putting her hand out for her to take and added, "You can even be charge of the most important task... Killing Imogen." Emma's eyes beamed.
Jenny bit her lip, hesitating before finally joining her hands in Emma's.
