Friendships
Imogen
Today was already an outstanding day because it was spaghetti day, my favorite. Usually every couple of weeks, the school would order fresh spaghetti for each period. That just happens to be today, which makes suffering through school classes worth it. I was super thrilled to be able to eat lunch with Lucas and Frankie.
Lunch period finally arrived, and I partially dragged Frankie there with me. I had to make sure to be one of the first in line since they only buy a certain amount. I arrived on the line, which was long already. I watched the door so I could call Lucas over to me.
It was almost our turn and Lucas finally decided to appear. I saw him enter the lunch with Kylie who was currently speaking to him. I felt like my light brown eyes were turning an even darker shade of brown as I stared at her. I know he won't do anything but I can't help but feel jealous towards her.
Lucas met my gaze and separated himself from her, starting walking towards me. We still had about five students ahead of us.
"Hey," I pecked his lips "How was class?"
"Boring history isn't my strong suit. I can tell you're excited about lunch today," he joked, wiggling his brows.
"Super!!! I haven't had Gio's spaghetti in like 3 months," I chirped, and Frankie nodded in agreement.
Finally, it was time for me to get my pasta! They usually buy three kinds of pasta and today I was carving the pesto pasta. I asked the cafeteria lady nicely to pour some in a plate for me and waited to click my pin in.
After dialing my pin on the keypad, I walked to get myself a utensil which was in the middle of the colorful tile room. As I turned around from getting a fork, I bumped into a brown-haired girl, causing her food to fall to the ground. I looked up, meeting face to face with Kylie.
"I'm so sorry," I blurted out, turning around to get some napkins. Some of the spaghetti landed on her extravagant shirt. I tried cleaning it with the napkins, but I think I just made it worse.
"Can you not see," she said, "Stop touching me," she bumped her shoulder into me.
"I can pay for the dry cleaner for your shirt," I offered, reaching into my pocket for my wallet.
"Like you could afford it," she mumbled under her breath "You probably did this on purpose because you're jealous about me and Lucas."
"No, I didn't do it on purpose!" I defended, waving my hands while shaking my head.
"Sure yea whatever," she flipped her hair behind her shoulders "Just go back to kissing Drew's ass I heard you're good at that!"
"I said I was sorry, why do you keep being so rude," I sighed. Does everyone think I cheated on Lucas with Drew? I barely even talk to Drew besides when I'm at my locker.
She bends down picking up the spaghetti off the floor "I'm not being rude everyone knows how you're two-timing them, You're a whore just like your mother," she dumped the spaghetti on my head, causing me to gasp.
"Don't you dare talk bad about my mother," I demanded, grabbing spaghetti from the floor and shoving it in her face. I grabbed someone else's platter and threw it at her. She gasped, wiping the food off her face to get a better look at me. I watched her grab someone else's platter, aiming it at me, but I was able to dodge it. Soon after, everyone else started throwing food at each other, while Kylie and I were waiting for each other's next move.
We charged towards each other; I was aiming for her hair since I had to react quickly. She grabbed my hair as well, and we both kept pulling each other, whimpering from all the pulling. My grip loosened since I think I grabbed onto her hair extension which was falling out.
"Oh my god! Lucas grabs Imi, I got Kylie," I heard Frankie shout. I felt Lucas's arm wrap around my waist, pulling me back, but I kept fighting trying to land some good marks on her.
"SEPARATE NOW," I heard someone say, having lost my grip on her "Kylie Cooper and Imogen Blake my office now," my principal demanded!
------------------------------------
The principal made us sit in silence until someone confessed who threw the food first. It took around two periods until Kylie admitted it was her. Well, I'm glad she didn't blame it on me. We then both explained our stories, which were two different versions, causing our principal to get irritated.
"Mrs.Harding I'm sorry for starting a food fight," I spoke.
"Well, I'm sorry but we are going to have to suspend both of you for 3 days and you have to clean the cafeteria after school," she explained. I cannot afford to miss anymore days, but honestly what's the point when I already have to redo the year.
Why did I let those comments bother me? I should have just left and went to get more pasta. This fight wasn't even worth it. Now I'm stuck with her for hours after school. I didn't even get the spaghetti I wanted and my stomach is grumbling.
--------------------------
During the last period, I sent a text to Lucas and Frankie explaining to them what I have to do after school. I was dreading having to spend the next couple of hours with her. I didn't even have a problem with her until her comments today. Even if I was jealous of her, I don't like picking fights.
I head towards the cafeteria, ready to clean up the total mess I've caused. I walked into the cafeteria which was even more colorful than before. The janitors were bringing in garbage pails and small shovels to scrape down the food from the walls. I placed my bookbag on the table and went to take a small shovel.
I heard the door creak open, letting me know Kylie has finally arrived. How nice of her not to ditch because I was starting to think she did since it's been 20 minutes since school ended. I saw from the corner of my eye that she had a drink with her, which explains why she's late. I just hope these awkward few hours pass quickly.
************************************
A good portion of the room has been scraped clean, but we still are stuck here for a couple more hours. I swear the students must have continued the fight after the principal took us away. Kylie and I haven't spoken one word during all of this. Kylie ended up playing music since it was too quiet. I decided to be the bigger person and just say sorry.
"Kylie," I spoke but I'm assuming she didn't hear because of the music "Kylie," I said a little louder.
"Mmm," she mumbled, facing me.
"I'm sorry about throwing food at you and making the fight bigger than it already was," I said, fidgeting with my pocket.
"I'm sorry too," she signed. "I wasn't in the mood and I let it out on you," she admitted.
"You want to share what made you upset? Maybe it will make you feel better," I suggested.
"I don't know..." she huffed, sitting down at the table.
I sat down next to her, "You don't have to but I'm here for you," I placed my arm on her shoulder. I really don't enjoy fighting with people over ridiculous things.
"Okay, I'm confiding in you because my friends would just think I'm naive," she responds and I nod letting her know I'm paying attention. "Well, I have a crush on Lucas," she blurted out as my eyes widened.
"Oh," I said, not knowing what else to say.
"Yeah, who would have thought I would admit this to his girlfriend," she let out a laugh "I liked him since the first week of school and I thought about asking him out but by the time I got the courage, I find out he was your boyfriend," she confessed, "When you guys broke up, I thought maybe that was my chance with me but you guys are back together now, I envy you, Imogen."
"You envy me," I blurted out, almost releasing a giggle long with it. "Your Kylie Cooper the prettiest girl in school, you could literally get anyone but you envy me?"
"Yeah, you think I could get anyone but the boys I wanted always wanted you," she said.
"What do you mean," I questioned as my eyes widened.
"Remember when I was dating Drew?" she asked.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"I know you had a crush on him during it," my eyes widened hearing her words "I could see your lingering stares a mile away when we were together."
Wow, was I really that obvious?
"He liked you too, you know, I really liked him but I could always see him looking at you. We broke up before telling anyone and that's when he confessed that he liked someone but was too nervous to go for them. You know him being a player and all. He said the girl he liked was extremely quiet and she wouldn't go for someone like him," she explained.
"How are you so sure he liked me," I questioned.
"IT WAS OBVIOUS," she sputtered, "I saw the way he looked at you when you walked past him. He would even kiss me or hold my hand when you were around to see if you got upset. I envy you because your everyone's first choice," she sniffled.
"Kylie, you will find someone who only wants to be you one day. You're incredible, beautiful, smart, and anyone will be lucky to have you," I consoled her "It's kind of funny because I envied you when you were with him."
"Don't worry, I won't steal Lucas from you. I'm not that type of girl," she winked, playfully nudging my shoulder.
"I never thought you were, you seemed high spirited like Frankie," I comment.
"Let's just forget the fight ever happened and call it a truce," she smiled, holding her hand out.
"Truce," I said, reaching to go shake her hand.
"We should hang out this weekend," she chirped, grabbing her shovel from the table.

After countless giggles, we were finally able to clean the entire room. It was spotless. I felt so proud of our hard work. Kylie's father was here to pick her up right when we finished. Speak about perfect timing. I was debating over calling Rebel or just walking home. I walked out of the school front doors, seeing the pinkish sky and sun starting going down. It's going to get dark soon, it's probably not the best idea to walk home alone.
I pulled my phone out from my pocket getting ready to dial Rebel's but got interrupted when I heard someone calling my name.
"Imogen," I looked up, seeing Drew in his football uniform.
"Oh, did practice just end?"
"Yeah, we ran late today. What are you doing here?" He questioned, throwing his uniform on his shoulder.
"You didn't hear about the food fight?"
"I didn't think you caused it, did you win the fight," he nudged my shoulder.
"It was a dumb fight," I rolled my eyes.
"Do you have a ride home? I could bring you, it's getting late for you to walk on your own," he spoke.
"Sure, thank you," I said, following him to his car.
-------------------------------
The drive was quite peaceful, especially staring out the window and looking at the sunset. It's as if the colors and intensity of the light is just enough to calm you. The sun is like a great big romantic, inspirational fire in the sky. I took my eyes off the sky when I heard him.
"Who was the girl you beat up," he asked?
"I didn't beat her up, but it was Kylie," I answered.
"Really Kylie? She's not usually the type to fight," he spoke.
"And you're saying I am?" I accused.
"No, no, just why did you guys fight?" he asked.
"I don't even know but we made up now," I responded
"Oh, that's good Kylie is a sweet human being," he said, turning right on my block.
"Yeah, I know, she even told me about your relationship," I smirked.
"Oh, you know I lost my virginity to her," he smirked, eyeing my reaction.
"I really wished you didn't tell me that," I responded, "She told me about how you liked me during your relationship." He was silent for a few moments after that.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything.
"I told you that I always liked you, it wasn't like my feelings appeared overnight," he answered.
"Why do you date people when you're interested in someone else? You're just using them," I commented.
"I didn't realize I liked you till a few months into my relationship with her, besides I ended it soon after, I felt bad but she already knew," he spoke, parking his car in front of my house "Would you have dated me if I told you I liked you before Lucas came along?"
"I can't imagine that because that isn't what happened," I answered, he didn't look to please at my answer.
"You just don't want to admit the answer," he signed "I've started seeing someone..." he muttered.
My eyebrows furrowed, "Why are you telling me this?"
"To hurt your self-esteem, I don't need to wait for you, I can find someone better and hotter than you," he sneered, his jaw was tense, I could see the veins popping out from his tight grip on the wheel.
"Well, it didn't work but I know I hurt yours! Thanks for the ride dick," I stormed out of the car walking down to my porch.
"You're such a selfish bitch! You're just mad that I'm not at your beck and call. Hate to break to you but I can move on," he spat, as I stick out my middle finger.
Drew is so bipolar sometimes! I know he's just mad because I didn't flat out and saw I would be with him. I'm sorry that I can't imagine, but I have other things to worry about. He's just trying to get a rise out of me, that's the only reason he would tell about his "new relationship". When will he get that I'm fully committed and happy with Lucas? I looked down at my wrist, seeing Lucas's name perfectly intact while Drew's was faded.
