[Chapter 9]: No way

"So, any progress with her?" Aizawa crossed his arms and rested back in his seat. Tsukauchi glanced down at the file in front of him and sighed.

"Nothing. She'll barely say a word to anyone here, let alone hold a conversation." He leaned back and placed his hand against his forehead. "You, on the other hand, have at least achieved that much. Have you learned anything else?"

"I wouldn't say I've learned anything actually useful."

The two men were stumped beyond belief. It had been a week since you arrived at the station. Truthfully, they had no idea what to do with you.

"Her behavior is very odd I must say." Tsukauchi continued. "She hasn't been aggressive other than a few abrasive words while interviewing her. But what's stranger is that despite knowing of our past failure to rescue her, she hasn't tried to use it against us at all."

"It doesn't sound like she blames the heroes. Well, at least she divulged to me that she never blamed me..." Aizawa pondered.

"Eraserhead listen... Your connection to this case has been valuable, but you shouldn't let it distract you from your other work."

"No, it hasn't been a problem at all." Aizawa waved his hand across to his friend. "Work has been pretty slow this week and I try to work primarily at night. I have more free time than you think. Besides, I'd say this case is pretty urgent. Wouldn't you agree?"

Tsukauchi shifted in his seat and tapped his pen against the table.

"Yeah... Whatever organization is behind her has been gathering information for a long time. They cover their tracks incredibly well. We hardly have anything on them." He said. "This woman is our first lead. I was hoping that there would be some movement after capturing her, but so far, nothing."

"Do you think she's disposable to them?" Aizawa asked.

"I hope not for our sake as well as hers."

"Why her sake?"

"It's most likely she's staying silent out of a sense of love and loyalty. If what you've told me about this woman has been accurate, she experienced horrendous trauma as a child. It's likely that whatever group took her in after did not have pure intentions but she clung to them still out of desperation. Finding out such a thing could lead to further instability of her mental state."

"No matter what, it's going to be difficult to release her back into the public after she serves her time." Aizawa groaned. "But that's further down the line. Why do you think this group would take in such a young girl?"

"Well... You said she has a foresight type quirk, correct?"

"That's right."

"Quirks that foresee future events are extremely rare." Tsukauchi pointed. "As of now, Sir Nighteye is the only prominent individual in Japan with such a quirk."

"I suppose that would make sense. But as far as I know, her quirk is only capable of sensing short-term-" He paused and retraced the events of the past in his mind. "No... There was a point where she thought she was going to be killed the following day..."

"So, we know that her quirk can foresee an event at least a day before it happens..." Tsukauchi began scribbling down the bit of information. He looked back up. "But it's not for certain. Obviously, she's still alive."

Aizawa groaned and ran his hand through the front of his hair.

"The following day, I made a split second decision to save her."

"Yeah, I remember that day..." Tsukauchi softly added. "They gave you a pretty hard time about calling the heroes so early and with such little information. Was it her that caused your lapse in judgment?"

Aizawa nodded and brought his fingertips down to rest on his temples, clearly distraught.

"And I couldn't even save her."

"Jesus, when the fuck are you gonna stop showing up here?" You huffed as Eraserhead walked up to your cell yet again. "You're just wasting your time."

"Good morning to you too." He snidely replied.

You tried your best to ignore his presence, but it proved difficult when the man was constantly sticking his nose where it didn't belong.

"Your hearing is in three days." He blatantly said. "And you haven't done anything to help your case."

"Help my case? Being nice to you isn't gonna get me anywhere. You're not going to rehabilitate me. I'll serve my time, leave, and go back to what it was I was doing. Anything more than that would be wasted energy." You replied spitefully.

"What exactly is your motivation for being so resistant?" He continued.

"I already have a place I belong." Your answer was stern, unwavering, but your face had grown softer. It was as if a glimpse of the past had appeared in your eyes. "Now, are you done with the damn questions?"

"For now. How about you ask me one for a change."

"I don't want to know anything about you. Your reasoning for being here makes no sense."

"Anyone with a basic sense of morality would want to help you."

"I don't need your help... And I especially don't need your pity!" You spat.

"It's not pity." He retorted. "It's justice. For you."

"Stop acting like you know what's best for me! I can take care of my own shit!"

"This senseless rebellion will do nothing to better your life-"

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" You were standing now, fists tight, and shoulders trembling. Aizawa knew he went too far.

"I'm sorry. It was wrong of me to assume so much." He admitted. "I shouldn't have pushed it so hard."

"Yeah... that's right..." Your voice strained as you collapsed back down onto the colorless sheets. "You shouldn't have."

As much as Aizawa wanted to push after that, he knew that it would yield no results. You were closed off now from conversation. He sighed and furrowed his brow.

"Hey, you wanna get back at me I'm sure." He started. You listened attentively but kept your head turned away. "How about this... You fight me, and if you win I won't come back here anymore."

Your eyes widened and you whipped your head back around to face him.

"They would never let that shit fly." You scoffed.

"This station is under Tsukauchi's jurisdiction. Until they ship you off to a more permanent facility, it shouldn't matter. Plus, you've made it clear you're not interested in trying to escape. So how about it? You look like you could use some exercise."

"Are you trying to piss me off?!"

"It's not exactly hard to do." He smirked.

"I'll rip your fucking tongue out!" You snarled.

"You might get the chance to if you accept."

You thought about it for a brief moment, the idea sounding more and more appealing with every second that passed.

"Fine..." You stood and walked over to stand directly in front of him behind the cell bars. "I gladly accept-"

"Hold up." Aizawa held up his hand.

"NOW WHAT?!"

"I want something if I win."

"Is that so?" You grinned. "Well, you're not going to win."

"If you're so confident, then it shouldn't be a problem. I at least need some motivation."

"All right, fine then. What do you want if you win?" You raised an eyebrow.

"Naomasa Tsukauchi is allowed to ask you one question that you must answer."

"That's it? Fuckin' deal. It's not gonna matter anyway." You smirked and began cracking your knuckles.

"There's no way in hell you're gonna win."
