Ch 5. Kidnapping Can Be Fun
Taube's wings flicked nervously behind him, his chest puffed out in an attempt to look brave. On his right was a short, thin looking boy with shaded golden eyes and thick cyan hair, on his left was a taller girl with straight, white hair that fell to her shoulders. Her eyes were a much paler shade of yellow. Taube looked very bright and colorful compared to the two pale wind elementals, bathed in white.
Just moments before, Taube had been zipping through the forest, determined to deliver the message to the wind elementals territory, Pure Towers. As soon as he got there, however, he was seen and threatened, of course. He had explained to them he didn't mean any harm and that he simply needed to deliver a message to the Ascil family.
Of course the wind elementals didn't trust sending the odd fairy alone, so they demanded they accompany him.
Then there he was, standing right outside of the tower that the Ascils called home. He glanced nervously up at the two wind elementals on each of his sides, then reached out with a slightly shaky hand, and knocked.
Moments later, footsteps were heard and a man opened the door. He was rather tall compared to the fairy and cast a shadow over him, the pale light from the house poured out from each side of him.
The two wind elementals bowed, but Taube didn't. Fairies tended to be more prideful, and never bowed to anyone who wasn't one of their own. Though it did make the fairy rather nervous, and he felt very out of place in this situation.
The man gazed down at Taube with burning eyes.
"Guards, what is a fairy doing on our territory?" Varick Ascil spat.
Taube narrowed his eyes a little bit, but lowered them to the ground, his heart pounding.
"Mr. Ascil, this fairy claims that he came with an important message to you." The female wind elemental said, still bowing, then slowly rose.
Varick eyed the fairy for a moment, then nodded. "What is it?"
"S-Sir.." Taube said, feeling rather self-conscious about his lisp at the moment. He inhaled before continuing, "Last night...I believe I saw your daughter in Psychic territory."
Varick's eyes narrowed, sending a chill down the fairies' spine. "Is that so?" Taube felt the boy wind elemental next to him stiffin.
"Yes. She was seen with a psychic, a-and she was dangerously close to the edge of the territory." Taube slanted his eyes now, chest puffed out as he spoke, his wings laid restlessly on his back.
"May I...I demand to see your daughter. This way I can know it was her." Taube's pink eyes flashed under the intimidating gaze of Varick.
The man stood there for a moment, then nodded. "I will get her. Stay here."
The door closed, and the sound of footsteps leaving could be heard through the door.
The two wind elementals began mumbling to each other.
"There's no way she would take that risk." The cyan-haired boy mumbled.
"Yeah. You sure that's what you saw?" The woman said, crouching down to face Taube, bright pink eyes met her pale yellow ones. Taube's eyes widened at the sudden conversation. He had assumed the two wind elementals would refuse to talk to him, seeing as he was a fairy.
"Yeah...I'm-I'm pretty sure. She had his facial structure...and they said the word 'Ascil.' So I'm assuming."
The boy shook his head and brought his hand up to his cheek. "You better be right about this. If not, Mr. Ascil is going to teach all of us a lesson." He was physically shaking.
Taube's heart dropped at the sound of that, that gut feeling making his insides churn. 'What is that supposed to mean..? Something is seriously wrong here.'
The door swung open, revealing a disheveled-looking girl with messy pale pink hair and golden eyes, freckles scattered her face. She was only an inch shorter than Taube.
The fairies' heart dropped at the sight of her.
"I-it..." 'just spit it out, and go home. Cass will be proud of me and everyone will cheer...and..' Taube gazed at the girl with wide eyes. Varick Ascil was gripping her wrist and she looked on the verge of tears. Next to Taube, the boy was also shaking. The fairy had a feeling they were both scared of the same thing.
"It's..."
"Well?" Varick asked deeply, his grip on Max increasing as he glared down Taube. The fairy stared at him for a moment, face full of shock as the fact that the man standing before him was a bad man slowly sunk in. 'This isn't right.'
Taube's hand shot forward without warning, a thin pink shock wave sliced Varick's hand clean off, and he let out a booming howl.
The fairy grabbed Max by the hand and took to the sky, wings fluttering rapidly as the two rose higher and higher into the night, away from the two wind elementals crowded around the man.
A couple golden blasts whizzed by them through the air but Taube swerved, causing Max to let out a few cries.
"Who are you?! What are you doing??" Max shouted, gripping desperately onto the fairies arm, gazing down at the ground that lay far beneath them.
"I have no idea!" Taube screamed back at her, "Hold on, I'm diving down!"
The fairies wings laid down on his back, as he clutched the girl next to him and dove headfirst into the forest.
Max screamed and closed her eyes as the fairy dodged every branch that flew at the two, swerving this way and that until they finally slowed to a stop.
Taube collapsed against a tree while Max shakily held herself up against one, staring at the fairy and panting, throat dry from screaming. Their hearts were pounding.
"Who are you?!....You just fucking cut off my dad's hand!" Max managed between gasps.
Taube caught his breath, staring wide-eyed at nothing, messy hair in shambles stuck to his sweaty forehead as he leaned against the trunk of the tree.
"I'm...im sorry. I just- s-something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong I needed to get you out of there. My gut was telling me to get you out of there."
"Your gut? Your gut?! You just kidnapped me!" Max screamed, causing Taube to flinch. The two stood there for a moment in complete shock, eyes wide, hair disheveled as they caught their breath.
Then Max let out a soft giggle. Taube looked at the girl, his wings twitched at the sudden noise, having not heard anything but leaves rustling for the last few minutes. Max giggled louder, and louder, until she was laughing loudly, tears streaming down her face.
"Oh...my god." She wheezed out, looking at Taube, "I-I just can't believe this is happening-I just-wow...." She breathed, "thank you."
"What?" Taube said, still in shock.
"Thank you!" Max ran up and gave the fairy a hug, whose wings went up in alarm, then slowly fell as he hugged the girl back.
