Notable Differences))
Plot: While the group is staying at Oliver's house in the first book, they find that he's been researching time travel and the possibility of it. Because they are all interested, want to pay Oliver back for his hospitality, and have no where else to go, they help him uncover the secrets of time travel and create a portal gun that can send them to any time (this include timelines and OTHER AUs!!!).
However, it can only be used once by EVERY CHARACTER in the book. (Btw Oliver is able to hide the characters when Indigo comes to check on them, and when she leaves, they continue researching.) so, as they continue studying it, they find that each character can only use it once or else the fabric of reality will get all messed up.
So, Oliver uses it to go back in time and do what he can to fix Taube and his dads relationship (this leaves Taube more stable and confident in this universe). Maya uses it to go back and kill Max's dad before he can hurt her anymore (this prevents Max from EVER BECOMING A GHOST ELEMENTAL. So her mother, Idris Ascil, becomes the ruler of Pure Towers, and Max is happier, and a full wind elemental.)
Max uses it to make sure Maya's parents never die, which means that Maya remains ENTIRELY human!! She is more happy, however, and less guarded. Lastly, Taube uses it to go back in time and make sure Oliver doesn't grow up alone, which makes Oliver's emotional health better, his stutter not as apparent, and his confidence higher.
However, the Time Elementals can sense the disruption in the space time continuum and are constantly tracking the borderhoppers down, trying to kill them.
So basically, the main four (wearing science-goggles, cool lab coats, and being overly-confident in themselves) are running from every time elemental that ever existed, while jumping between realities. (The portal allows them to GO BACK IN TIME ONLY ONCE, but they can travel between realities an infinite amount of time). So in this AU, the cocky, sciency, intelligent group, who all have good home lives and are fairly content, are constantly jumping between realities and on the run from time elementals.

Subplots: All the main four characters love each other :) it would be a shame if someone kidnapped or did something terrible to the poor babies

Side Characters: Lily occasionally joins their time travel adventures but the others are mostly oblivious to what happens. Breeze and Wilson never die in this timeline, neither does Idris Ascil.
