2 - When My Ex Lover Came Back, I Panicked

"Why? Why the fuck did you let her in, Jesy?" I asked Jesy, who was apparently calm and collected — or probably just keeping up the veneer — as she sat down and relaxed on the sofa. By this time, it must be my fifth time meandering around the apartment because Jesy looked a little prostrate just by watching her best friend roam around.

"Perrie, you need to just chill. You look like as if Jade is a serial killer and perpetually hunting you down," Jesy sighed heavily and sounding vexed as well, motioning to the spot beside her as if to beckon me to sit down on it.

I shook my head. "Oh believe me, Jesy, I wouldn't think of it any other way."

"Aren't you at least a tiny bit glad?"

"Glad? Of what? Her coming back?"

Jesy nodded. "Yes. Just in case you forgot, Perrie, Jade loves you very much."

"Sure," I laughed it off. "That's why she cheated on me and left me in the first place, right?"

"But she told you that she'll come back, am I right?"

I halted and spun around, my hands on my hips as I glared at the brunette. "Whose side are you on, Jes?"

"Do I really have to choose sides, Pez?" Jesy sighed, shaking her head. I didn't bother to answer her as I childishly crossed my arms in front of me, and she stood up to grab both of my shoulders, the mere gesture beckoning me to look her in the eyes. She sighed once again, "Look, Pez, I'm not saying you should take her back, I just don't want my best friend assuming the worst. I'm pretty sure Jade has a logical explanation for this."

I gritted my teeth the whole time as I listened. This isn't something that I wanted to hear. Not at all.

"Cheating shouldn't be justified." I quickly dislodged her grasp on my shoulders and stormed off, propelling myself towards the staircase.

"Perrie, come back here," Jesy called out, exasperated. "I'm not done talking."

"Good for you!" I called back, trudging heavily up the stairs as if to manifest my irritation.

There was no hesitation when I slammed my bedroom door, not even caring if my roommate had heard it from downstairs. I heaved an exasperated sigh and carelessly tossed my purse elsewhere before I practically threw myself on the bed, my eyes finding themselves gazing at the ceiling pensively. I tried my best not to succumb to reminiscing, knowing very well that these memories permanently embedded in my head could only transfigure into nightmares that could get me at night.

"Okay, I think I'm done drawing you. Pez, come see," Jade's soft and benign voice had pulled me in from my deep sleep that had unknowingly caught me as soon as I closed my eyes.

I smiled as I felt Jade's presence and her hand softly shaking me. Jade squeezed herself between my legs as I hoisted myself onto the desk and craned my head to take a look of her self-proclaimed masterpiece. My mouth had hung open as I see the first ever portrait of myself — a perfect one rather. Jade must have been very meticulous when it comes to arts, which is actually one of the many reasons why I love her. She must have paid close attention to my facial features, all my facets and aspects. It was as if she was sketching a human anatomy of me.

I slowly covered my mouth with my hand, obviously not wanting Jade to see it agape just by the sketch. I stared at the drawing and traced the outline of my face with my index finger, my eyes scanning every inch of it as I relish the beauty of it.

"Jade . . . ," I said. "I . . . Oh my God!"

"I tend to become very finicky to details especially when it comes to your facial features," Jade divulged to me, and I didn't have to look to detect her eyes' gaze toward me.

I smiled widely and shook my head. "I can tell."

"Sorry 'bout that."

"Don't apologize," I said, my hand subconsciously twirling a strand of her hair. I craned my neck toward her and placed a quick but meaningful kiss on her cheek before nuzzling my nose to her ear. "I absolutely love it. I love you so much."

My phone's ringtone had once again blared beside me, thankfully extricating me from that evocative yet direful recollection. I didn't bother to check the number when I quickly swiped the answer screen.

"Hello?" I said. The line was silent for a few minutes. I rolled my eyes. "Look if this is a prank I suggest you just leave me alone."

The caller sighed for a few moments. "Then it's a good thing that it's not a prank then, because I don't wanna leave you alone."

My whole being froze by her stunning and low voice. My hand tightened its clutch on my phone. I inwardly groaned. Why does my body involuntarily react to her voice?

"Jade . . ."

I hear an angelic chuckle from the other line, once again inducing goosebumps on my skin.

"I miss you, Perrie," Jade sighed. The words absconded from her lips so quickly I must have just misheard what she'd said. But then she said it again, and this time I was sure she spoke, "I miss you, so so much — you have no idea."

"I . . . I . . ."

"Perrie, I'd like to talk to y —"

I face-palmed myself and furiously rubbed my face as I stare at my phone. Why the fuck did I hang up on her? What on earth possessed me to do such ridiculous thing?

My thoughts suddenly disappeared when Jade's number was calling again. I instinctively grabbed my phone, but had thought twice whether to answer her again or not. She wanted to talk to me, but I have plenty of reasons not to. If my thumb has personal feelings, he or she must have been riled by my doing as I incessantly twitched it.

"Who's calling?"

"Fucking hell, Jessica!" I squealed as I reflexively closed my phone, automatically denied my ex lover's call. I quickly scrambled on my feet and clutched my chest in the process as I point accusingly at the my roommate whose smile must have been as wide as the horizon for all I know. "Don't you even dare say a word to me after what you've done."

Jesy rolled her eyes. "Perrie, don't even start. I'm trying to apologize here. At least let me."

"I thought we had an official contract explicitly stating that nobody — not even you — is allowed to enter my room!"

"Consider me as an exception, for Christ's sake," Jesy whined. "I know I barely paid half the rent but at least I made a little contribution."

It was me who rolled eyes this time. "Whatever. Why are you here?"

"As I said before, I wanna apologize," Jesy shrugged.

"Apology accepted. Anything else?"

"I'm kinda hungry. Wanna grab dinner?"

I though about it for a moment. My mind wandered once again to my and Jade's first ever interaction since the break-up and I realized that I could really use some time for peace of mind right now. I looked at Jesy and nodded, already grabbing my stuffs and my coat. "Come on. It's your treat this time."
