10 - When My Ex Lover Came Back, It Was Confusing

It took about fifteen minutes waiting — and eating a mini cup of chocolate ice cream— here in Dairy Queen before I caught sight of a giddy Jade waving two tickets as she comes toward me.

"Alright, Perrie Edwards. I got us tickets for Tom Cruise's soon-to-be Oscar awarded movie of the year; Mission Impossible 5." Jade, feeling all hyped up about this, handed me my ticket before grabbing my spoon and shovelling a small amount of ice cream as she takes a bite. She nodded adorably at the delectable taste and sighed, "I'm so excited to watch this with you, to be frank."

Hearing this elicited a wide smile on my face. "I knew you were a big fan of Tom Cruise."

"The greatest fan," she concurred happily. Jade opened her mouth to say something when her eyes were caught in a trance just above my shoulder, which aroused my interest as I stirred around only to be having a stare down with a completely ravishing but unfamiliar ginger haired woman whose clothes seemed provacative and revealed her olive skin — but not her identity, sadly.

She looked over my shoulder and smirked, and it didn't take a second for me to know it was meant for the woman who is currently taking me out to the movies.

"Who was that?" I asked Jade as I spun my head around to face her, attempting to sound nonchalant but God knows I wanted to choke the answer from Jade's throat right now.

Jade was cut off from her stupor immediately, blinking rapidly as she looked at the woman before looking back at me. She laid her hand on my shoulder before veering us off towards the cinema house, her eyes then met my curious gaze.

"Nobody worth knowing is all." Jade shrugged lamely and gave me a tight-lipped smile to reassure me, but a part of me was uncertain about it.

But I remained silent as always as an usher happily escorted us toward our seats.

To say that Jade looked excited after we watched Mission Impossible 5 is an understatement, because seeing Jade's smile resembling the horizon, I knew she was feeling more than that considering she was still wearing her widest and proud smile she always wore when we were watching the film.

"Although it's been established since my mother gave birth to me, I'd like to say that Tom Cruise is going to be the death of me one day," Jade started up the conversation, being a gentlewoman she is as she held the conjoined door open for me as she lets me walk out the cinema club first.

She didn't hesitate to hold my hand as the people from the movie house vacated the venue simultaneously — which made me blush profusely. Once we were finally walking by ourselves and not being pushed by others, she sighed joyfully and squeezed my hand as she looked at me.

I beamed. "I don't even know why you're still here and not looking for him right now."

"Like I said, he's going to be the death of me. If I meet him now, you'll never see me again, Perrie. Because I can assure you just one touch of his skin, before you know it — I'm dead."

"That's so sad."

Jade laughed at my remark. "Are you kidding me right now? I'll seriously be the happiest woman alive because of that."

I laughed along with her, trying to maintain my calm facade though I'm pretty sure my insides are on the brink of death just witnessing her cute fangirling moment. "Inform me as soon as possible if ever you're ready to meet him. I want to take a picture of you before you happily commit suicide."

"Aww. That's sweet. You're sweet." Jade leaned over and pinched my cheek with her free hand. "I'll make sure you come with me though. Because I know you'll miss me. I'm sure of it."

"I surely will," I sighed heavily. But I meant every word of it even though we were joking.

"Jade Amelia Thirlwall." I watched as Jade closed her eyes in frustration before we both looked at the same woman we crossed paths with before the movie. The woman glanced at me and smiled. "I'm Chloe Whites. And you are?"

"Perrie Edwards." I smiled back at her, offering her a handshake which she gladly reciprocated.

"You on a date with Thirlwall here?" She asked teasingly, raising an eyebrow and nodding her head at the agitated woman beside me. Then she gushes, "Jade here is a gentlewoman — not gonna lie. She'll hold the door for you, she'll pay for your dinner, she'll even —"

"Yeah, I know that through experiences. Don't worry," I cut her off, nodding vigorously. A part of me felt hurt being reminded of the fact that I wasn't the only woman in Jade's life.

"Chloe, seriously," Jade warned the woman. "Stop that shit."

"It was nice to see you again, Jade," the ginger haired woman spoke to Jade this time, and that fact that she was indifferent with what's happening made me enraged. I gritted my teeth when Chloe garnered the audacity to glide her fingertips over Jade's arm down to her hand to intertwine their fingers. She winked at her, and I wanted to slap her so badly but decided against it anyway. She giggled seductively, "I hope we could meet up again. Sooner perhaps. I kinda miss taking you home."

Jade hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to say as she looked at me. I raised my eyebrow at her challengingly, but she still didn't say anything. She looked back at this Chloe woman. "I, uhm . . ."

And dear Lord that's how the bitch bursted my bubble. I cleared my throat, making my presence known as the two obnoxiously gorgeous women looked at me. I smiled at them. "Sorry. I suddenly needed to go to the restroom."

"I'll come with you in a second. Wait for me," the notorious Jade Thirlwall replied, nodding.

I didn't wait for her though as I hastily made my way towards the restroom.

Of course she wanted me to wait for her. Why can't she just come with me right now? I rolled my eyes at myself.

Unfortunately, there were a lot of people considering they must have anticipated the movie so badly they decided to wait an hour and a half before satisfying their bladders; which is why I felt categorically mortified when I angrily shouted, "Fucking daughter of a bitch that woman!"

The women were silent as their attention diverted from what they were doing to the woman who suddenly screamed an expletive or two. All pairs of eyes focused intently on me and solely me.

Fucking. Amazing.

"Perrie, let's go."

I swivelled to look at Jade whose eyes seemed to convey a mixture of embarassment and regret as she held me by the waist. I didn't do anything but watch her lead me out of this debacle, however I was grateful I didn't have to. She was already hauling me towards the exit of the restroom, muttering several apologies to the strangers who were apparently still shocked by my sudden outburst; all I did was look down the floor in shame.

It wasn't until we were at the corner of somewhere and Jade had basically hurled my hand away that I've woken up from my stupor. Still not quite recovered from all the embarassment I've put myself through, I decided to just pace around the area like a fool, occassionally taking a gander at Jade who seemed pretty upset about the whole situation as her arms were crossed over her chest and her eyes were glaring at me. And when Jade's had enough, she clutched my arm eventually, prompting me to halt my movement.

"Perrie, what the fuck was that?" She asked me, shaking her head and throwing her free arm up and laughing sardonically as if she couldn't believe this.

I glared at her in contempt. "I don't think you have the right to ask me that. In all honesty, I think I was supposed to fire that question at you, Jade."

"Don't go spinning that question around towards me, Perrie. We are talking about you here, what you did awhile ago. And if you haven't noticed those women's eyes showing disapproval of what you did because of your foolishness, then let me be the one to say that what you did was childish and uncalled for," she chastised, which only aggravated the anger inside me.

It's true; what I did was totally wrong. But being the stiff-necked and hardheaded I innately was, I shrugged her criticism off like no big deal. Noticing the woman's grip on my arm, I successfully dislodged her hand from me and poked at her ribs.

"And what the fuck was that for?" Her voice was stern as if she was like a mother reprimanding her child.

"That is for taking me out," I said. Feeling like it's not enough, I poked at her ribs once more, harder this time which caused her to recoil from the pain. "And that is for being a bitch."

Jade shook her head, not seeming to comprehend what was going on. "Perrie, what seems to be the problem here? Is this because of Chloe?"

Chloe, right. Jesus, just hearing her name makes me sick.

When I didn't care to respond, Jade took this as a cue to grab my arm and immediately lead us out the parking lot. Once we reached Jade's parked car, her grip on me loosened as she spins me around, having my back pressed completely against her car's passenger door; her body was deleteriously close to mine, covering every possible escape I could find before she could catch me.

We both stared at each other, and I swear at some point my eyes betrayed me as they took a gander of Jade's plumped lips. I gulped loudly before peering into Jade's eyes, who were now hinting a fusion of desire and anger. I'll be lying if I said this doesn't turn me on right now.

I shook my head. "Will you just take me home please?"

Just by the glint in her eyes, I could tell Jade took that as a sexual joke. And I genuinely resisted the urge to slap her. But she still remained her sharp, catatonic stare. "No. Not until you tell me what the fuck possessed you to act that way."

I played childish and dogged. "Then there is no way we'll be leaving any time soon."

She rolled her eyes and took a step forward, and by this time I wondered if Jade was cognizant of what's happening as of this moment. We were basically standing in front of each other nose-to-nose. Her warm breath were hitting against my lips as she blew out a frustrated breath. Our bodies are literally a few inches away that one more small step, our torsos would lean against each other. Though from the exasperated look plastered on Jade's face, I'm more than certain this fact doesn't bother her as much as it bothers me.

After a moment of stare down, Jade made a tutting sound. She frustratedly combed her hair and groaned, "Why are you making this so difficult, Perrie? I ask you serious questions but you just deflect them and throw them at my face! Tell me — why on earth are you being like this!?"

"Don't pin your blame on me!" I raised my voice the same level as hers were, standing up on my toes as I did so. "You and I can't deny the fact that if it wasn't because of that . . . Chloe dude, our night would still be alright."

"Don't you dare accuse Chloe of your sudden change of behavior," Jade rebuked sternly, her jaw visibly clenching. She lifted her finger and gestured to the both of us. "This whole snafu wouldn't have happened if you just kept calm and collected like the typical woman you are."

My jaw clenched very tightly. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means that your jealousy is what ruined our night, Perrie."

Hearing that felt like bullets penetrating through my skin. Her words were reverberating on the recesses of my brain, not letting themselves disappear. I couldn't help but think about Jade's statement like as if it implies the reason why our relationship never worked in the first place; my fucking jealousy. But hearing that also made me feel so riled up, feel indignant because it sounds like Jade is taking her ex lover's side and not mine, as if what I did was something inhumane.

Jade resumed her intense gaze at me as I continued to peer into her. I could barely notice Jade's eyes with so much contempt, not missing the remorse in them as her pupils dilate and then go back to normal. I could tell Jade regretted saying that to me, but it's safe to say she's too late to take that back.

"I hate you, do you know that?" I told her, sounding sincere albeit out of hurt. Jade looked distraught hearing this, but her silent response spurred me on. "I hate you for making me feel like I'm okay a year after what you did, only to make me feel like I'm not the second you came back for me."

Jade heaved a sigh and questioned, "How many times should I come back to you just for you to realize that I will never stop? Five hundred?"

"Is this some kind of joke?" I snorted and smiled sarcastically. "Try a million and I'll be more than happy to accept you with welcoming arms."

"Are you talking physically here or mentally? Because my thoughts have been running back to you more than a million times already to be frank. Does that count?"

And just at the snap of a finger, all the serious tension hanging around with us simply dispersed into thin air.

Without thinking, I laughed at her statement — a genuine at that and not a mocking one. And then as if I came back to my senses again, I cough slightly and avoided looking at her for a second before meeting her eyes, which are squinting from the huge grin Jade had shown my way.

"I'll take that as a yes?" She asked, not bothering to hide her smile.

I rolled my eyes. "No. Take me home."

She nodded. "Of course."

Jade was about to walk away towards her side of the car when I gripped her forearm, prompting her to look back at me curiously.

"Just for safety precautions, I want to clarify by saying that when I say 'take me home', I meant that I want to go home. My home."

"Of course," she repeated, biting her lip to supress a laugh.

I reluctantly let go of her arm and surprisingly, instead of walking away to her side, she opened the passenger door for me.

I lifted an eyebrow at her. "Whatever ulterior motives you have, whether they're good or not, get rid of them."

"Of course."

"My Home, Jade. Take me Home," I stated very explicity to her, making sure to emphasize by giving her a dirty look.

She chuckled. And before I know it, her plumped lips rested at a safe distance from my ear. She spoke gently, "Perrie, say that again, I'll be thinking that you meant the other one."

And she kissed my cheek softly before leaving me be as she sauntered to her side and got in the car, patiently waiting for me to get in. And I remained a blushing mess with confusing thoughts before getting inside as well.

That same night, I laid happily in bed, with thoughts running back to the moments where Jade never failed to make things okay for me for the first time. I also made sure to text Jesy to come home safely as per usual, knowing my best friend has a tendency to go to parties ever since her break up with Justin (even though I begged her not to).

And that's when Michelle's message popped up.

Michelle: I'm sorry about last night. I knew I crossed over the boundaries and yet I stupidly kept going forward anyway. And I know you're still mad at me, too. So if it makes things better, I talked to my dad about the whole babysitting thing and convinced him to trust me to take care of myself. You don't have to look after me anymore.

Although I was already upset just by thinking about Michelle told me last night, I needed to make sure that I've already forgiven her anyway.

Me: It's fine, Michelle. I forgive you :)

Michelle: So does this mean I can still hang out with you...?

Me: LOL. Of course.

Michelle: Goodnight, Perrie. Sleep well. :)

Jade's message popped up as soon as I sent a quick goodnight message to Michelle, sending a tsunami of feelings washing over me.

You see — I'd like to believe that Jade wasn't one of those people who are too lazy to send a visual response and resorted to audio messaging instead. From the years I've known her, whether we were friends or already dating, she always ensures I receive a message from her and not just some silly recording that makes her personality sluggish. Which is why I have no clue why she sent me an audio recording, but I opened it up anyway.

From Jade: "I love you by the way. I felt like I haven't said that enough these days and texting it to you felt weird. Goodnight. Have a great day ahead of you."

I heaved a sigh and closed my phone. Now I know why.
