Chapter 2

Frisk awoke on a bed of yellow flowers. Just how they remembered it. Except...another figure laid beside Frisk, still knocked out. Frisk jumped up, staring at the sleeping body. Why had Chara come with them? How had Chara come with them? And where did that locket around their(Chara's) neck come from...?

Frisk waited to see if Chara would wake up. Perhaps this was just some kind of glitch...? Sure enough, Chara's eyes, no longer black and, well, eyeless, soon opened. They soon sat up, rubbing their head and looking rather confused. They soon focused their attention on Frisk. "Hiya." Frisk said cooly. Chara screamed.

"Wh-where am I?! Why does this look so much like the-"

"Ruins? 'Cause I reset. Not sure why you're here though."

Chara stared at Frisk, then tackled them to the ground. "What's going on?! Why is this happening?!"

Frisk shrugged and couldn't help but smile a little. "I dunno, lol."

Chara groaned, letting go of them. "You're even worse than that comedian..."

"Guess we're gonna have to go through this timeline together."

"Together? Yeah, right. You do it your way, I do it mine." Chara held their hand up as if they were holding something. "Wh-Where's my-"

"Looking for this?" Frisk said, holding up a knife, "I confiscated this from you when you were napping. You sure are a heavy sleeper." Chara reached for the knife, but Frisk pulled it out of their grasp. "D'aww, does the baby want their knife back?

Chara growled, pounding the ground with their fists. Frisk giggled, then stood and began to walk the path out of the ruins. Chara thought of no other choice but to follow. They walked into the room where they would've met Flowey, except Flowey wasn't there.

"Where's Asriel?" Frisk asked, stopping in the room.

Chara walked right past the spot where Flowey would've been, "You really think that Flowey will show his face after you killed him in the last run? He doesn't want to risk getting on your bad side aga-" Chara's words were cut off as they ran into a large and fluffy figure.

"Oh, excuse me," Toriel said as Chara stumbled backward, "I was doing my normal walk through the ruins looking for any humans that might've fallen down when I thought I heard two voices. I believe those voices were you two?"

Chara just stared up at Toriel in shock. "M-Mom...?"

Toriel's eyes widened. "O-oh my... You couldn't be...?"

"Oooo, we should've been prepared for this..." Frisk said, rubbing the back of their head. They stepped up to Chara and Toriel, "Um, Toriel? Chara and I have a lot of explaining to do..."

"Chara..." Toriel put a paw on Chara's cheek, "But I thought you were..."

"M-Mom..." Chara hugged Toriel.

"D'aww, I wish I had a camera to capture this beautiful moment!" Frisk said, gushing over the reunion.

Toriel soon led them through the Ruins -- Chara staying silent and holding her hand throughout the entire segment-- then told them to stay put in a certain area as she went to get supplies for a pie. Of course, she didn't say that specifically, but Frisk and Chara already knew how this all went.

As Toriel left them alone, Frisk took the moment to consult Chara. "So, you still wanna kill everyone?"

Chara didn't respond, looking down at the locket around their neck. "This isn't right... I shouldn't be here, I shouldn't have feelings... I shouldn't be so happy to see her..."

"You'd rather go back to being a soulless demon?" Frisk asked.

Chara once again didn't respond, looking down at the ground. "Frisk."

"Hmm?"

"What do you plan on doing this timeline?"

Frisk tilted their head in confusion, as if the answer were obvious, "Get everyone back to the surface, duh."

"You don't plan on resetting?"

"Nope. This timeline is the final one I'm going to play."

"Hmph... I should've known..."

Frisk became even more confused. "You don't want to be saved...?"

"I don't understand how you do it, Frisk. Why do you want to save everyone so much?"

Frisk hesitated before answering, wondering why Chara would ask such a thing. "Because everyone has some good in their heart." Frisk pointed at Chara's chest, "You just gotta look past the bad in them."

"What good did you see in me?! Didn't killing all of those who you had grown to care about so much absolutely rip you apart?! Ruining their happy ending?! Making them suffer?!"

"When I first heard about you, I knew you weren't just downright evil. And after thinking about it for some time... I thought that maybe...your fall down here wasn't on accident. And you might've just had a bad experience with humans. So, I wanted to show you that there is good in humans."

"But why?! Why did you want to save me?! What made you believe I was worth saving?!"

Frisk pointed at Chara's heart. Their soul. "You might have EXP. You might have determination. You might have LOVE. But, you have no love. And everyone needs love. Does that make sense?"

Chara was taken aback. All they could do was stare at Frisk's serious expression. Then, they pushed Frisk's hand away. "You're insane," Chara spat, "if you think there is any good left in me."

"Hmph," Frisk said, smiling, "If you think so." They took that as a challenge. A challenge to see if they could bring out the good in Chara. Frisk knew they could. It would just take awhile.

Chara could tell they hadn't changed Frisk's mind. Chara groaned in frustration, walking out of the room Toriel had told them to stay in. Frisk followed without protest, since they were required to do this anyway.

"Hey, the monster candy's up there," Frisk said as Chara went straight to the save point.

"You really think we'll need that this run?"

Frisk shrugged, "Ya never know."

Chara rolled their eyes, continuing through the Ruins, ignoring Toriel's phone calls -- Toriel had given the phone to Chara for the both of them to share. "Gah, I hated this puzzle," Chara growled as they made it to a room full of leaves.

"Well, it isn't that hard," Frisk said, walking through them on the correct path, making it to the other side of the room. "See?"

"Like I'm supposed to remember these stupid-" As Chara took their first step on a leaf, they fell down a hole into the second floor.

Chara growled, sitting on the ground and pouting. "This is stupid!"

Frisk looked down the hole Chara had fell down, "Nah, you're just terrible at this."

"Come down here and say that to my face!" Sure enough, Frisk fell down the same hole, landing on top of Chara.

"You're terrible at this." Frisk said with a taunting smile.

"Get off of me!" Chara yelled, pushing Frisk off of them. "You're an annoyance!" Chara yelled as they went to the door that led back to the first floor.

"Someone's jimmies are rustled..." Frisk muttered, following Chara, just before Chara tripped over a Moldsmal, causing both of them to go into battle. Chara bit back curses, standing up and dusting theirself off. "Uh, Chara...?" Frisk pointed to where their name was displayed beside the four options of battle.

"What are you-" Chara looked in the corner, seeing what had been bothering Frisk. Their name wasn't displayed as Chara or Frisk. Their name was shown as Charisk. "Wh-why is it-"

"I don't know, but it scares me. It sounds like a terrible ship name." Chara gave Frisk a confused glare. "Oh, nothing..." They spared the Moldsmal, since Frisk was in control of their actions, then continued their way through the ruins.

"So, we're just going to completely ignore what we just saw?" Chara asked.

"Puzzles first, questioning-what-the heck-is-going-on-with-our-battle-menu last." Frisk crossed the leaves just as easily as they had crossed them the first time. "Just follow where I step!"

Chara attempted to do so, but after a few steps, they feel through the leaves once again. "FUCK." Chara yelled, face planting into the ground. Frisk followed them down again, through a different hole this time.

"Do you need any-"

"NO" Chara yelled, attempting the puzzle again and again, getting a bit further each time, only to fail. Having seen enough, as Chara ran to try the puzzle once again, Frisk grabbed them by the hand.

They quietly led Chara through the maze, letting go of their hand when they made it across. "There's no shame in asking for help." Frisk said before proceeding without Chara.

Chara stood, frozen in surprise. Then, growled at Frisk's remark. "'There's no shame in asking for help.'" Chara mocked before following after Frisk.
