Chapter 14 (V. 2)
[top procrastinator right here]
[okay so I know I should be working on the next chapter instead of an older one bUT-]
[On my way home from school(yeah I'm back in school) I thought of a better ending]
[If you couldn't already tell, I was NOT proud of the way I ended that chapter. I gave so much build up and for what? For an anticlimactic as all hell end]
[SO, since I've thought of a better way for it to end, I'm going to be replacing this ending(which I like much better) with the old one.]
[If you've already read this chapter, different ending starts at where I marked "***" at the beginning of a paragraph]
[Chapter prolly has Shittaton of mistakes]
"Oh shit," Chara groaned as they approached the CORE. "I really...don't want to go in there..."
"And I really... Don't want to hear your bitching." Frisk retorted, causing Chara to glare at them. "C'mon. The Core isn't that bad."
"There's monsters, everywhere, and this place is one huge maze."
"Not if you remember the exact route. Like I do."
Chara growled, "Fine. Lead the way."
Frisk walked on through the CORE, Chara following close behind. They went on through the CORE, ignoring Alphys' directions and being constantly attacked by monsters. Soon, but not soon enough for Chara, they made it to the CORE end, outside of Mettaton's stage.
"Frisk..." Chara called before they entered. Frisk looked back at Chara, who was rubbing their cheek from their sore tooth. "You know that when we go through... And make it to new home... That we can't go back to mom...? It'll be weird, going back to her, just before we..."
Frisk then got what they meant. "So I guess that means we won't be seeing goat mom in awhile."
"Guess so. Now let's hurry up and get this over with. Asriel's story is gonna be hard for me to go through again."
Frisk nodded, then entered Mettaton's arena. Mettaton gave his speech about how Alphys had set everything up so she could become apart of their journey, and how the "malfunctioning robot" thing was all an act. But now, he was putting an end to the act. Now, the original program was canceled, and now, it was time for the finale.
"REAL DRAMA!"
"REAL ACTION!"
"REAL BLOODSHED!"
Mettaton then tells of how he was the one who arranged the CORE, and hired mercenaries to destroy the two humansto He also told of how King Asgore would kill them anyway, they were doomed from the start, yadda, yadda...
"Just flip him around already!" Chara yelled impatiently at Frisk.
"Geez, you don't have to yell." Frisk replied, "Hey, MTT! There's a mirror behind you!"
"OH? A MIRROR?" Mettaton questioned in his robotic voice, "RIGHT, I HAVE TO LOOK PERFECT FOR OUR GRAND FINALE!" He then turned around, revealing the switch on his back, "HMM... I DON'T SEE IT... WHERE IS IT...?"
"Boop!" Frisk exclaimed as they flipped the switch.
Mettaton froze. "DID YOU. JUST FLIP. MY SWITCH?" He then began to shake violently, a bright flash resulting.
"Here come that-"
"FRISK LEAVE YOUR MEMES OUTSIDE OF BATTLE!"
"Oh yes~!"
Afterwards, Mettaton's new body was premiered. It took a while to defeat him, especially with Chara having trouble avoiding certain attacks, but they soon managed to get rid of both Mettaton's arms and legs, and get the ratings to ten thousand -- mostly from Frisk posing dramatically when they were near death and Chara shoving Glamburgers in Frisk's face to keep them from dying.
Mettaton allowed fans to call in, and gave his speech of how he couldn't leave the underground because he would leave a void that couldn't be filled. He also told how he believed that the two humans were strong enough to get past Asgore, and that they would do just fine.
"Knock 'em dead, darling!" He exclaimed before he ran out of battery, his eyes going blank.
Alphys ran into the room soon afterwards, anxiously checking Mettaton, and instantly relaxing once she realized that his battery had simply ran out.
Frisk and Chara soon moved on, heading to the elevator that led to Asgore's castle. Alphys joined soon after, making small talk between steps. But neither of the humans could reply. They knew what was about to happen -- what they were about to go through -- and Chara was loathing it, Frisk loathing it for Chara also.
Once they made it to the elevator, Alphys told them of how they couldn't make it through the barrier with their souls alone. They had to take a monster soul. Namely, Asgore's.
Once Alphys left, a lightbulb lit in Chara's mind. The elevator doors opened, Frisk standing right outside of them. "Well? Are we gonna get this over with or what?"
"What if we don't need Asgore's soul?" Frisk raised an eyebrow. "I mean..." Chara spawned their soul, still not fully materialized. "It could be possible... For a human to take another human's soul."
Frisk's eyes widened. "No."
"My soul may not be fully useful, but it's not fully useless either!"
[AN: So I have become aware(after writing the first version of this) that in the true lab, it is said that a human cannot absorb a human soul, and a monster cannot absorb a monster soul. So, to adjust what Chara was just saying, they didn't really pay much attention to the lab entries(even though they were narrating Frisk's journey, they just didn't pay attention as they read), and Frisk was too amazed at Chara's proposition to remind them. So, BACK TO THE STORY]
"Why are you so against killing all of a sudden? I thought of all things you would be excited to finally be able to kill something."
The glow of Chara's soul dimmed slightly as their expression fell. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Oh, c'mon. You've been itching to kill something, haven't you? Hasn't my Mercy been driving you absolutely crazy? Well, now's your chance." They pulled the knife out of their pocket, dropping it on the ground and kicking it towards Chara. "Now's your chance."
Chara's expression hardened, a small crack forming across their soul, "You...You still think I'm genocidal?!"
Frisk could tell they were upsetting Chara. "No, no no. Just..." They tried to think of the best way to state their thoughts, "You really like to kill stuff, so..."
Chara's eyes turned into black pits with a red glowing center, the crack across their soul widening. "I... I've been trying to turn over a new leaf, Frisk! Trying to not crave destroying every monster we come across!" They stomped on the knife at their feet, hitting it at the right angle to make it fly into the air, letting them catch it by the handle. "I thought you were different than other humans..." Their soul faded away, "Thought I could trust you... Hell, I thought I loved you... But you're just like all the others..." They began to walk towards Frisk, causing them to back away, "Ungrateful, naive, ignorant... And all around awful... But you... You're a special breed..." Their eyes and mouth began to melt, black goop expelling from the holes, "You think you're a good guy... The protagonist... But Frisk... You're the true villain." Frisk had lost space to back away, cornered by the wall, "You're no different from Flowey. Resetting the world, altering the very fabric of time, simply for your own benefit... You can't die... You can't make a wrong choice... The entire universe always works in your favor... You, of all humans... Deserve to be erased." Chara chuckled, "Afraid, are you? Afraid and guilty. You may not wear your expressions very well, but I already know what you're feeling. After all... I am you." Their voice began to become distorted, "Every EXP, every HP, every LV. Oh, I'm talking a bit excessively, aren't I? But I can't help it... Watching you continuously grow more and more afraid and guilty simply amuses me..... Is this the Chara you expected? The Chara you had thought was there the whole time, but was suppressed by the weaker, more sentimental Chara that... hmph... That thought they loved you. Go ahead, Frisk... Apologize. Apologize to the Chara that had tried to change for you, and yet, you, quite literally, broke their heart."
There was a moment of silence. "Chara..." Frisk began, "I..." Chara slashed their knife at Frisk, a gash on their cheek remaining. Frisk shrunk, gripping the arms of their sweater and lowering into a fetal position.
Chara smiled, bending down in front of them, forcing their head up with their knife. "Is this what you were expecting? The evil, violent, ruthless Chara that pushed you through the genocide run?" Frisk jolted simply at the mention of the genocide run. "It still haunts you, doesn't it? All those lives you killed... The souls you gathered... And, for what? To save the demon that's about to kill you now. Your naivety has no bounds. Well, Frisk. I told you at the end of that run. You made your choice long ago." Chara swung their knife again, only for Frisk to catch their arm. "Wh...?!"
"No. I didn't expect this Chara. I didn't want this Chara. But you know what? I should've saw this coming. I made a mistake, thinking that the other Chara would still want to kill -- especially their dad. I'm admitting to my mistake. Now give me my Chara back."
Chara hesitated, then smiled, "You really are an idiot! You think I'll give you your other Chara back so easily? You'll have to break your contract as a pacifist in order to-"
Frisk punched Chara in the jaw, where they knew their chipped tooth was present, causing for Chara to draw back and drop their knife. Frisk picked up the knife, aiming the tip of it at Chara. "I'm not afraid to kill you."
Chara rubbed their cheek, smiling evilly, "Then go ahead. End my suffering."
***Frisk hesitated, getting an uneasy feeling. They couldn't kill Chara. They knew they couldn't. But they also wanted their Chara back. The Chara they loved. But if they killed them, then...
They froze, unable to make a decision. "You can't kill me," Chara sneered, "If you kill me, then you're killing a part of yourse-" Frisk lunged at them, stabbing them in the chest, cutting their statement short.
There was sudden silence, as if time had froze. A black substance oozed out of Chara's mouth. "You... actually...stabbed me...?"
"I-I'm sorry..." Frisk uttered out in almost a whisper.
Chara smiled. "Don't be. I know what you're planning." They faded into dust, their soul remaining for a small moment. Frisk reached for it, but it cracked into pieces before they could even touch it.
They sighed. "Let's try that again..."
