Heart of the Demon (3)
(Demon Urata x Human Sakata)
~Mini series~
————————
The sound of footsteps rushing to get to class, the loud chatter boxes, the occasional 'sorry' thrown here and there, all different types of voices filled the hallways that looked like a can of sardines. Students were either standing around the sides or in the middle of others' paths, friends in their circle groups blocking part of the narrow hallway. There was the constant bumping into people to get by while some walked through with no problem.
The redhead was staring at the necklace around his neck as he headed to his homeroom, occasionally moving out of the way for others. He had been looking at it ever since he left the house, his thoughts mostly on the way he acted when the short brunette gave the necklace at him. A blush slowly began to fade on his face as the memory kept replaying in his mind.
Why am I suddenly getting embarrassed at the thought of him? All of the sudden I'm starting to get shy and nervous. Do I..... Sakata smacked his cheeks to stop wherever that thought was going. I just met him!! Plus he doesn't care about me! He continued to smack his cheeks, lightly this time, as if that would stop the blush from warming up.
Being lost in his thought made him drown outside noises and distractions for a while, but a few ear crushing shrieks caused him to snap out of his dazed state and turn around to see what was happening. He could see a crowd of pale students stare at whatever was in the middle. He tried to push his way through the wall of people, muttering a couple 'sorry's along the way, before finally being able to see what the big deal was.
The sight of a couple of students covered in a red liquid greeted him. They were all terrified, their faces were paler than a white sheet. The liquid almost resembled blood and Sakata couldn't even tell whether it actually was blood or not, which kinda worried him.
The rest of the students immediately backed away from those that were covered, some even ran away, while the students that were now red from head to toe ran out of the school, hoping to be able to change out of their red stained uniforms.
Sakata began to scan the hallways as a thought crossed his mind. I can only think of one reason this could've possibly happened. His eyes landed on a brunette leaning against the side of a locker, silently chuckling to himself. The male's green eyes met the redhead's. Sakata could tell that the short brunette started to chuckle a bit more, probably at the shocked expression the redhead must be wearing.
Sakata pushed his way through again, grabbing the still laughing short brunette's arm and pulling him in the closest room, shutting the door so no one could overhear them. Urata gave the redhead an unamused look, sighing at the redhead's worried expression.
"Before you start panicking and scolding me, no it wasn't real blood, they're fine, and I'll just make them forget about it eventually so you have nothing to fear." Urata swiftly responded before the redhead could even open his mouth to speak.
"Didn't you say you weren't going to follow me around?" Sakata tilted his head as the short brunette crossed his arms behind his head with a bored look.
"I did say that, because I'm not going to stick around an idiot, but then the old geezer chewed out my ear and wouldn't stop until I gave up and left."
"Oh.... well anyways, don't do things like that!"
"I just said that they're fine so you don't need to scold me." Urata responses in an annoyed tone, not happy to be yelled at by the redhead.
"Still–!"
"Geez I came here thinking that I wouldn't have to deal with anymore shouting and now I have a idiotic dog barking at me." Urata let out a tired sigh while Sakata semi-glared at him for the comment.
"Hey!"
"They'll forget it eventually, in fact," Urata casually snapped his fingers, "there done, now stop barking idiot."
Sakata stared at him in doubt, not sure whether to believe the male. The short brunette glanced at the redhead's face for a while, Sakata started to feel a bit embarrassed at the sudden gaze. Urata walked closer to him and pulled his cheek, a teasing smirk on the short brunette's face.
"O-Ow," Sakata whined as the short brunette lazily pulled his cheeks, "s-stwop!"
Urata let go once he was satisfied, the redhead pouting as he rubbed his cheek. When Sakata looked back at the male again, he was already back to his neutral expression.
"Well, see ya."
"E-Eh? Where are you going?"
"Who knows."
Sakata just sighed to himself. It's only been a few hours and he's already causing trouble for me. How am I going to deal with this? The redhead again wondered why he was thrown into this situation.
He figured that the male wasn't going to stay, as it looked like the short brunette didn't seem to enjoy his company, so at least he didn't have to worry about trying to stop him from causing mischief in school. Sakata headed to his classroom, ready to suffer through the school day, before almost letting out a loud shout in disbelief once he entered.
"A-Are you kidding me...." Sakata said to himself as he saw the short brunette sitting in the redhead's seat, his legs on the table as he lazily leaned against the seat.
The short brunette shifted his gaze to the side and cheerfully smiled at the redhead, who knew that he was teasing him with the smile. Sakata was silently crying on the inside as he walked to his desk that was occupied by the short demon. So much for not having to deal with this slightly sadistic demon in school....
"You look like you saw something terrible, your face is paler than usual," Urata pointed out, still smiling innocently, as the redhead stood next to his desk and sighed.
"I did....and he's sitting in my seat..." Sakata unconsciously muttered out loud before noticing the short brunette's switch to a sour mood, "e-eh...I mean–"
"Oi!"
Urata grabbed the redhead's collar and pulled him down so that their faces were only a few centimeters apart. He used his other hand to pinched the redhead's cheek.
"I-I didn't m-mean it like that~" Sakata tried to plead, wanting to be spared from the pain on his cheek. "P-Please stop~"
Urata glanced at the redhead's face before sighing and finally letting go. Sakata rubbed his cheek, for the second time, as a small pout planted itself on his face.
"Can't you be nice to me once?"
Urata rolled his eyes as he placed his elbows on the desk with his cheek resting in the palm of his hand, boredom written on his face.
"Is the cute, innocent, precious Sakata insulted by my words~? Is he hurt by my actions~? I'm so sorry. Does he want me to whisper sweet nothings in his ears and kiss his cheek to make it feel better~?" Urata sarcastically taunted as the redhead began to wish he just disappeared at the moment.
"Never mind.....you just saying that just gave me a scary thought. I don't think I can see you acting sweet at all."
Urata's taunting smile turned into a glare and the redhead was ready to protect his cheeks from assault before the teacher entered the room. The short brunette sighed and teleported himself to his seat, which to Sakata's dismay was next to the redhead.
"No one noticed so it's fine." Urata quickly said, knowing the redhead was going to question it. Sakata finally sat in his seat as other students headed towards their own.
Urata immediately zoned out the teacher's voice, not caring at all about what they said. He was still curious about why the older male had chosen the redhead. Out of all the people in the world, it had to be this idiot. He sighed as he slumped in his seat, bored out of his mind.
He would've just gone off doing whatever he wanted, but the older male had forced him to be by the redhead's side. I swear he's going to push me to my limit and I'm going to end up k–
"How come your, um, boss wants you to stay by me?" Sakata asked, cutting off the short brunette's thoughts, the question had been on his mind for a while.
"That's something I'd like to know too," Urata muttered, "but I do know that at some point he'll get tired of me constantly ignoring him and he'll probably just get rid of me."
"Y-You don't seem that worried about that...."
"As much as he'd like to and is completely able to, that old man doesn't have it in his heart to do that."
"I guess he sees you as a rebellious son that he cares about."
Urata gave the redhead a narrowed look, causing Sakata to look away sheepishly and twiddle with his thumb again.
Despite the chatter from the class, it seemed like the two males sat in silence. After a while the redhead decided to glance at the short brunette, only to see the male gone. Sakata looked around the room, finding no sign of the demon. I guess he just left–
The redhead felt someone prop their elbow on his head, tilting his head slightly up he saw the short brunette staring out of the window with a bored look. Sakata noticed that his horn and wings were bigger, causing him to get worried that people will see the short brunette. It seemed like Urata sensed his panic because he casually spoke in a lazy tone.
"Didn't I tell you that no one but you and your badmouthed brother can see me in my demon form?"
"Oh right..." Sakata sheepishly scratched his cheek at his forgetfulness, "but why did you change your form?"
"Cause I got bored listening and at least I can do whatever I want without causing trouble for the kind prince." Urata mockingly said the last part as the redhead gave him a weak glare.
"And before you ask–"
"I know, I know, you probably already erased their memories so no one questions why you suddenly disappeared."
Urata stared at the redhead for a second before smiling and softy pinching his cheek.
"Aw the dog knows me so well already~"
"I think I'd rather deal with your sadistic and rude side...."
Urata just continued to smile but Sakata could feel his cheek start to hurt a bit at the slight increase in pressure.
"W-Wah~ I didn't mean it~ stop pinching my cheeks~"
"Do you still want to deal with my rude side?"
"Stwop~"
Urata listened to the redhead and released his grip on his cheek. Sakata rubbed it, for the third time throughout the morning, as he pouted.
"My cheeks are going to be bruised~"
"You're exaggerating, it's not like that'll kill you. If I really wanted to kill you I'd probably just shove a water bottle in your mouth." Urata casually said as he played with the redhead's hair.
"......I think I should be more cautious around you now..." Sakata quietly said as the short brunette just chuckled.
Urata noticed the small mixture of blue and purple on the redhead's cheek. Guess the idiot wasn't lying. He sighed as he softly caressed the redhead's cheek, the same green glow surrounding his hand as before. Sakata was taken by surprise at the sudden tenderness, he immediately turned his head away and pressed his hands against his face to hide the blush that took place of the bruise.
Urata just tilted his head in confusion while Sakata felt his cheeks warm up even more. The short brunette just stared at male before he realized what he did. He sighed as he gave the redhead a deadpanned look.
"Oi idiot, just know that I did that to heal the bruise on your cheek before you started to complain about it."
"Eh? I had a bruise?"
Sakata cutely tilted his head confusion. Urata didn't know why he suddenly had the urge to pinch his cheeks again but resisted it and just sighed.
"Obviously you wouldn't know until you looked in a mirror or something. I just decided to fix it now."
"O-Oh, r-right..." Sakata stuttered as he sheepishly looked away.
Why did I get so embarrassed by his touch? The redhead knew that his cheeks were still a light pink hue so he placed his hands over to cover it.
The short brunette just watched the redhead try to focus on class, noticing the small bits of pink on his cheek that the redhead didn't hide well enough. Urata just chuckled as a small smile unconsciously bloomed on his face. What an idiot.
