Heart of the Demon (2)

(Demon Urata x Human Sakata)

~Mini series~

————————

"You what?" The raven-haired male said as he looked at the redhead in disbelief.

"I might've accidentally summoned a demon and now he's sorta my familiar." Sakata said as he sheepishly laughed and shifted his eyes away.

"How do you just accidentally summon a demon?"

"......I tripped...."

Soraru just stared at his brother dumbfounded, still trying to grasp the conversation. Is he starting to hallucinate things?

"I swear if you're lying–"

"I-I'm being serious!"

Sakata then glanced to the side at the short brunette who was lazily floating beside him. Urata felt the gaze and just glanced at the redhead with bored eyes and an unamused face.

"Can't you do something to make him believe me?" Sakata quietly pleaded to the short brunette.

Urata just gave the redhead a bored expression, "I can, don't feel like it."

"Eh?"

"I'm not going to waste my effort for something pointless."

"Please?"

"Nah~ it's actually somewhat entertaining to see you try to not look crazy in front of your brother," Urata said with a teasing smirk on his face.

"You looked bored just a few seconds ago," Sakata muttered to himself before continuing to plead to the short demon.

Urata just kept ignoring the pleads, throwing glares at the redhead's direction once he began to get annoyed at the constant pestering. Soraru just watched the sight of the redhead shouting and pleading to something that he couldn't see. I'm starting to think that Sakata's telling the truth...or there's still the chance that he's getting delusional.

"What kind of familiar are you suppose to be?!" Sakata shouted in irritation, but immediately regretted it as he saw the short brunette's expression.

Urata angrily pinched the redhead's cheek, clearly ticked off at the male's comment. Sakata whimpered at the pain of his cheek being pulled.

"In case you already forgot, I never asked for this so don't complain to me about it. Got it?"

Sakata nodded his head as the short brunette let go of his cheek, crossing his arms as he looked away, still not over the redhead's statement.

The redhead rubbed his cheeks and he gave the short brunette an annoyed side glance. He glanced at the floor before catching a glimpse at the silver cross that was hanging from his neck. He then remembered what the older male told him. Guess I can test it now.

He held the cross with both hands, closed his eyes and muttered the chant.  Urata felt himself suddenly drop to the ground, wincing at the small pain from the impact, his wings became smaller and his tail disappeared. The short brunette rubbed his hip as he glared at the redhead, who didn't know the male would suddenly fall and was apologizing.

"Oi you–"

"You really weren't lying..." Soraru said, dumbfounded at the sight of a short brunette wearing a tuxedo with black, curled horns on his head and black wings sprouted on his back.

"I thought doing that would just make you visible, I didn't expect that you to fall..." Sakata said as the short brunette got up.

"Well maybe use that brain of yours for once." Urata muttered, the redhead just pouted at the male's words.

"So now you have short demon you can order around?" Soraru asked, shaking his head to get rid of the slight shock. His words annoyed the short brunette while the redhead nodded his head.

"Yep."

"For how long?"

Sakata opened his mouth to answer but soon closed it as he realized that he didn't know. He glanced at Urata, who was also silent at the question.

"So you both don't know." Soraru said in a deadpanned tone as the redhead glanced away sheepishly.

"Probably until the old man decides that I've learned enough," Urata stated as he flopped himself on the couch, "don't know what I'll learn from an idiot."

"Hey!"

"And if it goes on forever?" Soraru questioned the demon, who thought about it for a moment.

"You should be happy, at least your precious brother's soul won't be in danger with me around," Urata mockingly said as the raven-haired semi-glared at him.

"I think his soul might be in more danger," Soraru mumbled as he looked back at the redhead.

"So are you going to help me niichan?"

"Nope, good luck."

"E-Eh?!?!"

"How do you think I'd be able to help you? I know nothing about this."

"I was hoping you'd find a way to get me out of this..." Sakata sheepishly stated as Soraru gave him an 'are you serious' look.

"I'm not some ritual and demon knowledge guy."

"I was silently praying that you secretly knew and just kept it from me...." Sakata dejectedly said, the short brunette sighed at the redhead's stupidity.

"Ya know, I think I'd rather be a dog's familiar, at least it'd be understandable for it to be an idiot."

"Hey!"

"So no one can see you except Sakata and me?" Soraru asked the short brunette, who was lazily playing with his hair before glancing at the male.

"Pretty much," he replied, "people can see my horns and wings, if I feel like revealing myself, but in this form right now I would look like a human to everyone else."

"Cause a human definitely has horns and wings." Soraru sarcastically said.

"And I thought my personality was bad," Urata bitterly responded as the raven-haired gave him a nonchalant look.

"So are you in human form now or...?" Sakata asked, the short brunette just rolled his eyes at their constant questioning.

"Since I'm your familiar, you see me like this and even in my human form you'll see the horns and wings, though they'd be smaller than usual."

"But what about niichan? How come he can see your wings?" Sakata tilted his head in curiosity.

"Probably cause he's related to you, how should I know," Urata said before letting out a yawn, "your boring questions are making me tired."

"What'd you expect when we're suddenly thrown into this type of situation." Soraru bluntly said as the short brunette glared at him.

"I'll gladly take your soul, free of charge, if you keep annoying me." Urata 'cheerfully' threatened the raven-haired who simply rolled his eyes.

"So, are you going to follow me around like a ghost?" Sakata questioned as he looked at the short brunette.

"Nope," and with that Urata snapped his finger and immediately disappeared.

"E-Eh?" Sakata said in shock as Soraru just rose his eyebrow in amusement.

"Well, I wish you luck with being stuck with that shortie." Soraru patted his brother's head in sympathy and headed to his room.

"Huh? W-Wait, you're seriously not going to help me?" Sakata exclaimed as he followed the raven-haired, still hoping he'd find a way out of the situation.

"Can't. But I can at least help you by tolerating the short demon."

"Niichan~ how cruel."

*****

Urata appeared back in the castle, where he was immediately greeted with a slap on the back of the head.

"Oi!" Urata growled as he glared at the older male, who had a calm, nonchalant expression.

"Didn't I say you were going to act like a familiar?"

"Didn't I say that I'm not doing that?" Urata retorted back as the older male pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I pity that weak human."

"You're the one that chose him." Urata muttered as he crossed his arms, "anyways, he has the necklace so he can just summon me at anytime he wants. Plus I doubt that idiot would even decide to have me do things."

"If he got injured?"

"Not my problem."

"If he needed your help?"

"He has his older brother with a bad personality."

"If he died?"

"I don't care about any humans," Urata bitterly said word for word, "why would that moron be any different?"

The older male just glanced at the short brunette's cold gaze. I figured he'd at least show some sympathy for a naive and innocent-looking human. Then again, this is the same person that enjoys making others' lives hell.

"I'm sure you'll think otherwise eventually. Either way, you're not getting out of this that quick," the older male spoke as he walked away, "I'm curious to see how long it takes...."

Urata just watched the male leave, a bit curious on what the older male meant by his last words. He brushed it off as the male just trying to irritate him and teleported so that he was now lazily sitting on the throne. He glanced at the crystal ball on the wooden stand next to him. It showed a faint image of the redhead with the raven-haired.

He stared at it for a while, thinking about his new job. That old man is never going to hear me stop complaining. He watched the crystal ball occasionally switch images, still being about the two males, his thoughts wandered back and forth on what he should do.

A thought soon crossed his mind, well, I have something to keep me entertained now instead of being cooped up in this dusty castle waiting to be summoned. The edges of the short brunette's mouth began to twitch into a mischievous smile. Plus I now have an excuse to go mess around in the human world without that old geezer bothering me with questions.

"This is all pointless, but I guess that pest can be useful and entertaining for a while." He inwardly smirked as he thought about using the redhead to kill time for him.

*****

Sakata yawned as the sunlight hit his eyes through the curtains. He groggily sat up, another soft yawn escaping his lips, before plopping back down on his bed. He pulled the covers over himself, about to go back to sleep until a cold sensation came pouring down on his head. He frantically sat up after the sudden rude awakening, coughing a bit as he rubbed his eyes. He could hear an small chuckle to his side, turning his head he saw the short brunette laughing.

"E-Eh?! Why'd you do that?!?"

"What makes you think I did it?" Urata 'innocently' said, not even trying to hide the smirk on his face.

"You–"

"Relax, it's just water, I could've drowned you if I wanted to." Urata casually said, the redhead just shuddered at the statement because he could actually see the demon doing that.

"A-Aren't you suppose to, um...not kill me?"

"That's what the old geezer said, but who ever said that I listen to him," Urata smiled 'sweetly' at the redhead, who could feel himself shrink at the gaze.

"I can just make it look like an accident happened, that old geezer wouldn't know."

"H-How about no...."

Urata just chuckled at the redhead's terrified expression. This moron's expression are kinda cute to watch.

"You seem to be in a cheerful mood if you're having fun scaring me like that...." Sakata pointed out after calming down from the previous event, "well, at least better than yesterday where you looked like you wanted to strangle someone."

The short brunette grabbed his chin to make him look straight at his eyes. Sakata just watched the short brunette's expression turn into a slight scowl.

"I've just decided to use this to entertain myself, plus it makes it a bit easier to mess with people. I still hate this so don't assume that I enjoy being around you."

Urata gave the redhead a smile that sent chills down his spine. Sakata just nodded his head, deciding that agreeing with the short brunette was better than dealing with his sadistic comments and such.

"Oi Sakata, get up."

The two heard the raven-haired from downstairs.

"And I'm assuming the shortie's here too if you're talking."

Urata felt himself burst a blood vessel from the raven-haired's comment.

"Eh? Niichan can be sharp sometimes," Sakata quietly mumbled to himself before getting up and heading downstairs.

Urata glanced to the side, spotting the necklace that was given to the redhead on the nightstand. He sighed as he grabbed it. This literally protects his soul and he doesn't even remember wearing it. He curiously looked at the jewelry, wondering why the older male made it so other demons wouldn't take the redhead's soul.

He never does that for any human, so what's so special with this one... Urata was intrigued and pondered about possible reasons before ultimately brushing it away. Not gonna bother trying to figure it out as it has nothing to do with me.

He teleported from the redhead's room to downstairs, spotting the two males who seemed to be looking for something.

"Oh Urata, have you seen Kenchan?" Sakata questioned the short brunette.

"Why– wait, how'd you know my name?" The short brunette gave the redhead a quizzical look.

"Eh? Oh, that old man told me." Sakata calmly said as he turned his attention back to looking for the dog.

"When?"

"Um, probably yesterday a couple of minutes after you left." Sakata recalled as the short brunette rolled his eyes.

"Of course he did...he just loves meddling in my life."

"So is he just going to follow you in school or?" Soraru asked as he spotted the small dog sleeping under the table.

"As if I'd stick around this idiot," Urata bluntly replied, "I'll just wander around the town and if he needs something he can just summon me."

"That's fine," the redhead cheerfully said as he let out a small laugh, "it'd be weird and embarrassing if people saw me talking to myself."

"Don't give him ideas." Soraru said as he could already see the short brunette's mischief smile twitch on his face.

Sakata sheepishly laughed before grabbing his bag and heading towards the front door. Kenchan finally woke up and turned his head to where his owner was.

"Bye niichan~ see you later." The redhead opened the door and walked out, Kenchan eagerly getting up to follow the male.

"Oi, idiot."

Sakata turned around just in time to catch the necklace that was tossed to him. He looked at it before mentally smacking his head for forgetting about the necklace. He looked up, his red eyes met the short brunette's lazy expression. Sakata nervously turned his head to the side, getting confused at the sudden warmth in his cheeks.

"T-Thanks, bye!" He quickly turned back and made his way to school, lightly cupping his cheeks to hide the redness.

Soraru just rose his eyebrow at the exchange between the two. He glanced at the short brunette, who sensed the gaze and looked at him in confusion.

"What?"

Seeing the male's confused expression caused Soraru to hold his head as a sudden image appeared in his mind for nearly a millisecond. The raven-haired blinked his eyes as he removed his hand, now being the one to stare at the short brunette in confusion.

What just happened? He couldn't see the whole details of the image but remembered that it was a seemingly dark area with a weak green glow lighting it up. He could faintly recall feeling someone's arms wrapped around him, small tears falling on him, and curious eyes peeking from behind someone that was standing in front of him.

Urata just watched the raven-haired continue to be lost in thought. Are both of these brothers brainless? The short brunette brushed it off and left the raven-haired to his own thoughts. He teleported himself to a random place. Well, don't need to worry about them. I'll eventually get to leave them.
