REYNA'S POV

I was heading to class when I overheard a conversation.

"Did you hear? Ramirez-Arellano likes that creepy di Angelo kid."

"Really? Well, well. Looks like there's a new love team in class."

"Yeah..they call it 'Reynico'."

I pretended not to mind, but then I heard the other voice say "Piper told me to spread the news."

Piper? Why? Is it because of—

Suddenly, I heard the school bell ring.

I hurried to class, and breathed a sigh of relief because I was only one minute late.

It was Chemistry time, and our topic was really hard. Well, Chemistry itself is really hard. I liked History class more. The teacher made me read a paragraph from the textbook.

Water is neutral, not because it doesn't have any hydronium (acid) or hydroxyl (base) ions present, but because these ions are equal in concentration (10-7 M). They are equal because pure water, even though it is covalently bonded, has some ionic character.

Then, the teacher made someone else stand up and read the next paragraph.

The pH of a solution is the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration (pH = -log [H+]). The logarithm (base 10) of a number is the number to which ten must be raised to get that number.

The pH scale is a scale of 0 to 14 and indicates the measure of H+ ions present—the amount of acidity in a solution.

If the pH is less than 7 the solution is considered to be acidic ([H+] >1.0 x 10-7 and [OH-]<1.0 x 10-7) and if the pH is above 7 the solution is considered to be basic, or alkaline ([H+]<1.0 x 10-7 and [OH-]>1.0 x 10-7).

When the class ended, I saw Jason and Piper fighting. I approached them carefully and asked, "Uh, hi?"

PIPER'S POV

Jason and I have been distant ever since I saw her kissing Reyna. I tried to break Reyna's heart once, through my half-brother Leo Valdez. It didn't work, and since Leo was always a kind and forgiving person, they stayed friends. Then, I saw another opportunity when Leo told me about him and Calypso inviting Reyna and Nico to a game of Laser Tag.

I started spreading rumors to everyone in the school about "Reynico", to humiliate Reyna for what she did with Jason.

So, when Reyna approached Jason and I, I almost snapped.

"You think you're so much better than me, huh? You think you could steal my boyfriend?"

Jason tried calming me down, but I said, "Now you're siding with her, Jace? Why?"

Suddenly, Reyna yelled, "Stop!"

Jason and I froze.

"Piper, I'm sorry for what I did before. I fell in love with Jason and I wanted him to kiss me.....but that was before. I don't feel what I used to feel for him anymore. I'm in love with someone else."
