Chapter VII: What's Anime?
NICO'S POV
As soon as I got my iPhone repaired, I watched anime there. I haven't cleared Reyna's browser history from when I borrowed it yet, so when she opened the history, she was surprised.
"Nico? What's an anime?"
"It's like a Japanese cartoon. They're not just for kids."
"You mean it's like rated R?"
"Reyna!"
"What?"
"I meant that there are some things children won't understand—wait, rephrasing...there's murder and blood and stuff. That kind of inappropriate."
"Oh...I wanna watch."
"I knew this day would come."
I handed her a list of my favorite anime:
- Kuroshitsuji
- Kuroshitsuji II
- Kuroshitsuji Book of Circus
- Detective Conan
- Sword Art Online (I told her to avoid watching episode 24)
- Sword Art Online II
- Shingeki no Kyojin
- Bleach
- Naruto
- Death Note
- Tokyo Ghoul
- a few others
REYNA'S POV
The list was so long. I read it anyway, and watched the anime he suggested. He was there with me, because I wasn't sure if there was going to be scary parts. There was a lot of gore in Shingeki no Kyojin, and the concept of the Death Note scared me. We watched the first episode of every anime on the list except the sequels (SAO II, Kuroshitsuji II and Book of Circus).
This is what I think the anime is about:
- Kuroshitsuji is about a boy who has a butler that might be a vampire, I dunno, really.
- Detective Conan is about a teen detective who gets attacked and fed something that made him small. Weird.
- Sword Art Online is about this guy who gets trapped in a game and meets this other guy named Cline. Did I spell that right, or was it Klein? Then they meet this creepy dude who probably is one of the players, If it follows a cliché.
- Shingeki no Kyojin is about these weird sort of alien things eating people and this kid wanting to get revenge for his mommy's death.
- Bleach is a kid seeing ghosts and one of them is actually a Soul Reaper, who kills other ghosts and stuff, and the dude becomes a Soul Reaper himself.
- Naruto is about a kid who is annoying and wants to be a ninja. Of course I already know what's gonna come next—the kid's gonna be one of them masters. I don't even need to watch the rest of those episodes.
- Death Note is complicated. It's about this guy who kills people that kill, and this other smarter guy who looks a bit like Nico.
- Tokyo Ghoul is about his guy who likes this girl but that girl is actually a bloodsucking monster that eats humans and the dude and the girl get crushed. The dead girl's organs get transferred into the dude, and the dude becomes part human part monster.
The things I wanted to watch were Kuroshitsuji, Sword Art Online, and Detective Conan, since the others were either clichéd or scary. SAO, even though a bit clichéd, is still fresh, so I gave it a chance.
