Chapter 4
[In heavy French accent]
[One Week Latear]
I stretched awake the next morning, then took a deep breath. "Ah, the sweet smell of Smash..." I threw my legs over my bed, "I'm in a surprisingly good mood this morning... Funny, since today's the first round battles..." I got up and switched into my green tunic, "I guess I'm just happy I won't be seeing Villager first thing today!"
The annoying boy had always greeted me a couple minutes, if not as soon as, I got out my house. He would hang with me the whole day, making me show him around. I showed him events we had, such as the Home Run Contest, Target Blast, etc. It was actually pretty fun at times, explaining everything to him and helping him out. I hate to admit it, but I kinda felt a connection to him myself.
"Enough about that," I told myself, grabbing my sword and sheild, pointing my sword triumphantly into the air, "I have a challenger to destroy."
I stepped outside the house, ready to battle. Ready for anything.
**********************************************************
"Welcome, all first battle participants!" I heard the announcer, "Please take your places in each arena; the battles will begin shortly."
I looked at the arenas, showcasing who were to fight in each one. Pac-Man vs. Link, Villager vs. Donkey Kong, Wii Fit Trainer vs. Kirby(I found that one funny), Megaman vs. Sonic.
Toon Link vs. Ness.
I took a deep breath, entering the stadium. Each arena works as whoever enters it gets teleported to the stage of which the characters would fight. Anyone not fighting were free to spectate or cheer for the characters. We happened to be fighting on the Halbred, from the Kirby series. There were already a few spectators, but no sign of my opponent.
Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to mess around a bit. Hey, look! There's Meta Knight! I ran over to the spectator, who also happened to be the owner of the stage.
"Hey there, Meta!" I said.
"Long time no see, Toon Link." He said back, "You haven't let your sword lose power, have you? I want as good a match as we had last time."
"As if I'd ever let my sword go blunt. In fact, I've been sharpening it just for you."
"Oh, you're too kind."
"So, lemme guess, you suggested this stage?" Characters not battling were allowed to vote for the stage each combatant were to battle on. It avoided bias of the combatants choosing their stage.
"Why, what gave it away?"
"I dunno, the fact that you just happen to be one of the few people who are here early. And also the fact that this is your ship."
"I wanted to see if you've changed your battle style since last year. And you know I take every chance I can to show off my wonderful flying ship."
I chuckled, "Oh, don't worry, I haven't changed a bit."
He nodded once, "As have I. Oh, and how come I haven't been able to speak to you earlier? It seems you've become allies with the Newcomer, Villager."
"The kid's stapled himself to my back... He rarely leaves me alone. But I somewhat enjoy his company, so it's not all that bad."
"I see. Well, we must chat later. It seems your opponent has arrived."
I turned to see Ness on the other side of the stage. "So he has. See ya later, Meta!" I waved, walking back to the main part of the stage.
"How long until we start?" Ness asked.
"Not very, I believe," I responded, "So, how's it been?"
He shrugged, "A little depressed but I got over it. Well, long enough to fight."
"Been sharpening your PSI skills?"
"You're about to find out."
I smiled, "Still cocky as ever, I see."
"I could say the same to you, Toonie."
Did he just...? "D-Don't call me that!"
He smirked, "You seem to have quite the relationship with that Newcomer."
Is everyone going to ask me about him? "The kid made me his traveling mule. I can't help that he won't leave me alone."
"You say that as if you don't have at least some liking to him. If you didn't, you would've sliced him in half long ago."
"I... Okay, I may like him a tiny bit, but nothing more."
"And nothing less? Do you have any idea how fast that tiny bit can grow?"
I thought about his words for a moment. "Y'know, I'm done talking. I'm ready to pound your face in."
"Make that both of us."
As if on cue, we heard the announcer call, "One-Stock[A/N: one life, for you scrubs who don't know] battle! Toon Link! vs. Ness!" We shared one last smile at each other.
"Ready..."
"May the best Smasher win." We both said.
"Go!"
We both charged at each other, the spectators cheering us on(more had arrived since my talk with Meta Knight). Our battle raged on, more and more damage being inflicted on both of us, but neither of us flew far enough off the screen to end the battle. Getting tired of this battle raging on, I began to get reckless. I went for a smash attack every chance I could get, leaving myself vulnerable, but landing a hit once. As it sent him flying, something weird happened.
It began to rain.
Rain? I thought, What? Halberd shouldn't have weather conditions. In fact, the only stage I can think of that has weather conditions is the Pokemon Stadium...
Ness flew far enough off the screen to where he wasn't able to recover, ending the battle.
"The winner is... Toon Link!" But no one applauded or cheered. They knew as well as I did that it wasn't supposed to be raining. Before we could discuss, we were teleported out of the stage, since the battle was over.
Then we found that it wasn't just raining on Halberd. It was storming everywhere. In the other arena stages, even in the Hub-world, where everything was supposed to stay the same at all times. There were already characters out there, muttering their own theories as to what was going on. I looked around, spotting Mario and running to him.
"What's going on?" I asked, holding onto my hat as the wind picked up.
"So this isn't your nor Link's doing..." He said, doing the same, "You're the only two who can summon rain and wind..."
"So you have no idea what's going on?"
"Gather as many characters as you can. Tell them there's going to be a meeting in the Dining Hall." He then ran off, doing what he had just told me.
With no hesitation as to what happened to his accent, I turned and called for everyone to meet in the Diner. Just about everyone ran towards it, except for one character.
"Villa!"I called. He wasn't moving. "Villager!" I called again, running to him. I noticed that he had been shivering, his arms folded.
"C-Cold..." He stuttered.
Once again unhesitant, I picked him up, "Hang in there." I removed my hat from my head and placed it over his, then ran after the other characters.
