Chapter 7: Loss

Few weeks have passed and we arrived with two reinforcements. Jacob and Evie Frye of the London Brotherhood.

Evie seems to be like me. The calm and collected one. One who is more of a strategist. Jacob on the other hand is different from his sister. He's kinda like Leone. He loves a good fight. Occasionally likes to go for a drink every so often. And prefers to fight with his fists, but he does use a kukri from time to time.

After our boat had landed, we went to the Capital.

Jacob: Right. Where to now then?

Y/N: We have an informant. He runs a bookshop as a cover up.

Evie: Does he so happen to have a false panel for a secret hideout?

Y/N: As a matter of fact, he does.

Jacob: Of course you would know that.

Evie: Shut up, Jacob.

Cornelia: Y/N, look at this.

Jacob: What is it?

Looking at the wall Cornelia had pointed me to, it caught my eye. Sheele's and Bulat's posters were gone. In fact, the only ones who had posters were Najenda, Akame, and now Mine.

Evie: What's going on?

Cornelia: Do you think?

Y/N: Possibly. I'll have to confirm with my cousin. I'm heading back to the hideout. Cornelia, I'm assuming you know where Lubbock's store is?

Cornelia: I do.

Y/N: Take Jacob and Evie there. I need to speak with my cousin.

I then took off running down the streets, heading towards the main gates. What happened to everyone while we were gone?

Cornelia POV

Jacob: Right then. Shall we head on to the bookshop?

Cornelia: Of course. This way.

We kept walking down the streets some more and we were about to turn the corner until I saw a girl. She had black hair and it was styled into two pigtails.

She looked very familiar. Then again, her resemblance is uncanny to that of Akame.

Evie: Do you know her?

Cornelia: N-No. She just looks like an old friend, that's all.

Jacob: Shall we proceed then?

Cornelia: R-Right.

We enter the bookshop and went to the back of the shop. I start to feel the books, trying to figure out which one was the secret access button. I pushed three books back and the false panel starts to move before ascending up, revealing a stair case below.

I could hear a whistle from Jacob behind me.

Jacob: Not bad, but I've seen better.

Evie: Come on.

Walking down the steps, we enter a brightly lit room, seeing Tatsumi, Leone, and Lubbock in the room.

Tatsumi had something in his hands. A paper of some sorts. It stated that it was holding a tournament at the coliseum, hosted by General Esdeath herself. The reward was money it seemed.

Lubbock: Hey Cornelia. Didn't think you'd be back. Who are these two?

Cornelia: These two are Master Assassins from the London Brotherhood. Jacob and Evie Frye.

Jacob: (winks at Leone) Pleasure to meet you.

Evie: (elbows Jacob) Knock it off.

Leone: You're pretty good looking yourself, handsome.~ Mama likes what she sees.~

Lubbock: (grumbles) Great. Another pretty boy.

Cornelia: Anyway, what happened to Bulat and Sheele?

The other three's faces turn grim. Please...don't tell me...

3rd POV

Y/N was currently hopping and leaping off the various branches, heading his way towards Night Raid's base.

Despite bringing reinforcements, he was concerned for why Bulat's and Sheele's posters weren't up anymore. He was fearing the worst. Coming into the clearing, the familiar base in the mountain side could be seen.

Climbing up to one of the windows, he hopped through and was in his and Lubbock's room. He glanced to his desk to see the plans for the Phantom Blade were still there. Untouched. Opening the door quickly, he rushed to the meeting room to where his cousin would usually be at. He entered the hall only to find her not there.

He then went into the dining area and went through to see Mine's arm in a cast and Akame helping her eat. The other two assassins were shocked to see the young Master Assassin back.

Mine: What the--when the hell did you get here!?

Y/N: What happened to them!

Mine: To who?

Y/N: To Sheele and Bulat, god damn it!

Akame and Mine only look down, looks of sorrow painted on their faces. It was enough for Y/N to confirm what happened to them.

Y/N: (clenches fist) How did they die?

Akame: Bulat...died fighting Esdeath's three beasts.

Y/N: And Sheele?

Mine: You're sister.

Y/N could see the visible look on Mine's face. Rage. He was also confused as to how she knew he had a sister.

Y/N: How did you know?

Mine: You're sister, Seryu, murdered her! Her Teigu ate Sheele!

Y/N: ...How much has her sanity decreased?

Mine: Hmph. She has one twisted world on what's right and wrong.

Y/N becomes and angered and reels his fist back, punching it straight through the wall, leaving a visible hole in it. Mine and Akame were shocked, but the raven-haired girl was worried.

Y/N: God dammit...I'm running out of time. Fuck!

Y/N was tired. He went back to his room and sat on his bed. His sister's sanity was getting worse by the minute. Perhaps the second. He had a few letters on his desk from the Brotherhood here, reporting how his sister has been more psychotic, sadistic, and enjoys her killings.

It was never like this when they were younger. Seryu was just the normal caring, and overprotective sister towards him. Sure she had a strong sense of justice thanks to her father, but it was their mother's actions and experiments on them is what led to this development of her current personality. Their mother was fascinated with the human brain and mind, doing "odd" experiments on certain test subjects.

Because the Empire wasn't supplying her with prisoners as they were all executed immediately or publicly hanged, she looked to her next to test subjects. Her children.

Y/N was depressed. He now thought that there was no hope in saving his sister. With essentially no "hope," he left Night Raid's home base and went to the Capital and headed to Jared's bar. Stepping inside, he sat on the bar stool, his hood still up.

Jared: What can I get ya?

Y/N doesn't respond and only takes out a coin purse. Y/N had tons of money to spare and usually only brings four coin purses on him. Jared was confused as to why Y/N handed him a coin purse as it was enough to buy four cups of ale.

But after seeing the look on his face, he understood why. He concluded that Y/N must have found out about his sister's actions and antics lately. In fact, his sister's demented face has been well known now. It terrified Y/N a little. As soon as his first ale arrived, Y/N picked it up, bringing it to his face. He hesitated at first, but he then took a drink.

Timeskip

It was dawn and Jacob and Leone were walking through the slums, looking for the silver-haired Assassin.

Leone: Where do you think he ran off to?

Jacob: Well, considering what you guys had told me, probably a bar. He must be depressed that his sister is now a psychotic and sadistic killer.

Leone: Then I have a pretty good idea on where he is. Follow me.

Leone then leads Jacob down to Jared's bar. Entering, they find the golden, yellow-eyed Assassin at the bar stool, passed out.

Jared was behind the counter, cleaning one of his shot glasses.

Leone: Hey, Jared. How long has he been here?

Jared: Hey, Leone. And he's been here for quite awhile. Been drinking to get past his sorrows. It's not very common to find a sibling you have become some crazy person.

Jacob: Well, isn't drinking the best solution?

Leone: (sigh) Not right now.

Jared: Who's this fellow?

Leone: This is Jacob Frye. An acquaintance of Y/N here.

Jacob: Pleasure. As much as I want to stay for a drink, we have a drunk person to get home. Let's go.

Leone: Right.

Lifting Y/N off the bar stool, they went out of the bar, but passed by a girl in her mid-twenties that had auburn hair. Seryu had passed the three Assassins, paying no attention to them.

Leone was sweating bullets as she hoped that Seryu didn't spot her.

With a sigh of relief, they hauled the young Assassin back to the hideout, most likely hearing the wrath of Akame when they get back when they see the state Y/N is in.

With Seryu

Seryu had walked past Leone, Y/N, and Jacob. Unaware of who they were, she thought little of it as she was celebrating a victory. If you could call it one.

Sure she said, "justice had prevailed" when they took on that bandit fortress, but there was one thing missing right now. Her brother. If she wasn't on the Jaegers or Police Force, she would be at home, taking care of her younger brother, pampering him and being the protective older sister she was.

Entering inside, she saw Jared setting up drinks as some of the bar patrons were off to the side, doing their own thing.

Before she could answer, Jared slid a cup of ale. Bewildered as she didn't pay, Jared only nodded at her.

Jared: On the house. You need it.

She understood and took the cup, her hand going into her uniform pocket as she fished a picture out.

It was a picture of twelve year old Seryu, standing behind a five year old Y/N, hugging him as they both had smiles on their faces. A single tear went down Seryu's face as she had a frown.

Seryu: Sorry...for being the worst older sister.

She begins to remember the memories she had back in that house. She remembered vividly when her brother was only three and he came up to her with a sloppy drawn picture of her with the caption, "best big sister ever."

That night, Seryu didn't lift her cup for a few minutes as she mourned of the "death" of her younger brother. One thing rang on her mind. She just wanted him back.

------

Sorry for the hiatus on the book. And for the short chapter. I had no ideas popping in at the moment that I couldn't figure out what to write here.

Not only that, the Oregairu book that I've been writing has taken up most of my schedule, spending at least 2-3 hours each day on a chapter. This book may be on hold for the moment, but it will return. Just at the moment, I wanted to get this chapter out and think of ideas for the next chapter. Anyway, thanks for reading. Stay safe out there.
