Chapter 2: Night Raid
Night Raid. A professional assassination group, a splinter group of the Revolutionary Army. Led by the former General Najenda of the Empire. My cousin.
I have spoken with my cousin from time to time, but it was when I killed my parents is when I lost contact with her. I took off for the Brotherhood and she probably doesn't even know that I'm still alive.
It's been three days since that night of Aria's death. I followed the group back to their hideout. They need more training if they haven't noticed my presence. I watched as Tatsumi sat on the cliff, looking at the graves of his friends. He's far too naive. He'll have an early death if he doesn't understand the true horrors here.
Leone ended up coming behind him and she put her breasts on the top of his head. I tune in to the conversation while still following close behind without being detected.
Tatsumi: Whoa!? What're you doing all of a sudden!
Leone: Don't keep sulking forever! It's been three days since then. Have you made your decision to become of Night Raid?
Tatsumi: Like I said--
Leone: (wraps arm around Tatsumi) I think you have talent for murder though.~ Onee-san guarantees it.
Tatsumi: ...I'm not wavering because of talent and such...(quietly) something like murder...
Y/N: (thoughts) This is how the real world is. Murder, killings, death...it'll always happen.
Leone smiles a bit before dragging him towards their hideout. Before I left the bookstore three days prior, I left a message in the money bag I gave Lubbock. I wanted information on all the members of Night Raid.
The first is Akame, a girl at least a year younger than me who was sold by the her parents to the Empire. Selected for the Empire's assassination program with her sister, she was recruited into the Elite Seven. My cousin was able to convince her to switch sides. She posses a Teigu. The One-Hit Killer, Murasame. Just a small nick from the blade sends a deadly poison throughout the target's body. That's a weapon I need to look out for.
Then comes Mine, a pink haired girl who dresses up in pink all the time. Cousin passed her Teigu onto her. Posses the sniper, Pumpkin. The more danger the user is in, the more destructive the fire power is. It's power also responds to the feelings of the user. She's part westerner so her kind was neglected to those in the Empire. He also worth noted that she is a bitch. Grrreeeeaaat.
Then Bulat, a former soldier of the Empire. Great with a lance and sword as well as most weapons. He realized the corruption in the Empire after his previous General, Liver, never got the chance to state his case in a trial. Bulat uses the Teigu, Incursio, an armored type Teigu. Gay apparently.
Sheele, a former citizen that lived in the industrial area of the Empire. She murdered a person that was attacking her friend and in her trial, it was ruled she acted in self defense. The Revolutionary Army ended up recruiting her and was assigned to Night Raid. Uses a scissor type Teigu called, Extase, known to cut pretty much anything in existence.
The first recruit of my cousin and my informant, Lubbock. Youngest child to a wealthy merchant of the Capital, he pretty much grew up having whatever he wanted. It wasn't until he met my cousin, he followed her everywhere she went. He defected from the Empire at the same time of Najenda. Uses the Teigu, Cross Tail. It's wires are considered indestructible and are perfect for setting up a sensory perimeter.
Then the busty blonde, Leone. Grew up in the slums, not knowing who her real parents are, she had a giant one growing up there. Being poor led her to develop certain skills for the group. Swindling people of their money being one of them. She uses a belt type teigu called, Lionelle. A belt that allows her to transform and take on the appearance of a lion lady. Gives her regenerative abilities, increased strength, and agility.
Then the last member, my cousin, Najenda. Leader of the group and former general. Worked with the now known and classified as a dangerous person, General Esdeath. She doesn't posses anymore teigu as she passed hers along to mine, but she makes up for it with her brilliant strategies and planning for operations. The Revolutionary Army picked up a wise general. She always had me call her nee-sama.
Y/N: Well, nee-sama sure has been busy. Guess time to wait.
Timeskip-Dawn
It was now the evening and cousin was meeting with everyone in the common room. Using my daggers ability, I was able to conceal myself and my presence, listening in on the conversation. I realized that cousin still kept the Brotherhood emblem. It was dark grey on her black eye patch.
Najenda: I see. I understand the situation completely. (extends hand) Tatsumi...would you like to join Night Raid?
Tatsumi: I'm dead if I decline, right?
Najenda: No that's not going to happen...but we can't let you go back. We'll have you work as a laborer in our workshop.
Time to make my presence known.
Y/N: He doesn't have the guts to join.
I reappear before everyone else and everyone, aside from cousin and Lubbock, readied to fight.
Najenda: Ah, Mr. Wraith. What's the honor in visiting us?
Y/N: Well... (removes hood) It's mostly to see family.
Najenda: (smiles) ...To think my own cousin was the Wraith.
Everyone else: Huh!?
Najenda: (looks at robes) I see you've achieved the rank of Master Assassin. Tell me, have you gained a student? You were always one to be quiet.
Y/N: I have one, believe it or not. Perhaps you'll see her.
Mine: Hey um, boss?
Najenda: Yes Mine?
Mine: Can you give us some background information here? Also, he's the guy that killed our target three days ago!
Y/N: That just mean you're slow pinky.
Mine: ...What the hell did you call me!?
Najenda: I see your asshole of an attitude is still intact. (clears throat) As you now know, this is my younger cousin, Y/N.
Y/N: Sup.
Najenda: What happened to you? Last I heard is you killed uncle Markus and aunt Karliah.
Y/N: It's their fault for letting the corruption of the Empire get the best of them. So I killed them and I was only eight at the time. They deserved it. Especially mother. She betrayed the Brotherhood and everything it stood for.
Everyone except Lubbock: Brotherhood?
Najenda: A story for another time. Anyway, Tatsumi, what do you think?
Tatsumi: I was planning to go out to the Imperial Capital and become successful to save my village, which is suffering from poverty...but even the Imperial Capital's rotting!
Y/N: The fame and fortune in serving the Empire is all a lie. Why do you think I killed my corrupted family? This empire is rotten to the core.
Bulat: He's right. The countryside's poor and suffering because the center's rotten. Don't you want to uproot the source of the rot? As a man!
Najenda: Y/N here is a former noble and Bulat was also a former imperial soldier but they both learned of the corruption and Bulat joined us. Y/N knew of the corruption before me and sought to join the Brotherhood of Assassins.
Bulat: After all, our work is to eliminate the evildoers in the Capital. It's much better than working under those rotten people.
Tatsumi: But, even if you just kill the bad guys little by little, the world won't change greatly, will it? In the end, places in remote regions like my village won't be saved by that.
Y/N: Naive as always...
Tatsumi: What's your problem!?
Y/N: You're not seeing the bigger picture. Of course by killing off the grunts and lesser rankings of the Empire will make a difference. How do you think the Assassin's were able to eliminate the Templar's for years? Stopping their operations in seizing the Pieces of Eden?
Najenda: A little bit too much information Y/N, but yes. The Templar's were able to be defeated by the Assassin's for generations. While some may live, their activities have been dormant for some time.
Y/N: There are rumors that the Templar's reside within the royal court. Some specifically say it's Prime Minister Honest.
Najenda: Interesting. I do think that our relationship will benefit in taking down the Empire. It has been a few years since I've left the Brotherhood. Now then Tatsumi, our goal is to make a better country for others. We've prepared a plan to win. When the time comes, this country will change for sure.
Tatsumi: Will the new country...treat the people well?
Najenda: Of course.
Tatsumi: I see...awesome...so the killing you're doing now is just targeting the bad guys to clean out the trash...it's what they call assassins of justice, isn't it!
Everyone other than me, cousin, and Akame. She had her attention on me and she had a slight blush on her face? Huh, weird. Anyway, Tatsumi is naive.
Tatsumi: W-What!? What's so funny!?
Y/N: Are you an idiot? They're still committing murder. There is no justice in it. Anyone in this room could pay the price for all the people they've killed.
Najenda: Each person has their own reason for fighting, but they're all prepared...will your opinion stay the same?
Tatsumi: Will I get rewarded?
Najenda: Of course. If you work hard you may be able to save your hometown.
Tatsumi: ...Then I'll do it! Let me join Night Raid! If it's for a big goal like that, Sayo and Ieyasu would have done the same!
Y/N: If you do join, you do realize that, you're village may not welcome you anymore. They may not see you as a hero.
Tatsumi: That's fine. As long as everyone in the village can be happy through that.
Najenda: It's decided. Welcome to the path of carnage, Tatsumi.
Then Lubbock's wires start to react as intruders have made it in.
Lubbock: Intruders, Najenda-san!
Najenda and Y/N: How many?
Lubbock: Eight in total! They're a bit too close for comfort!
Najenda: Has your student been notified?
Y/N: Yes. Akame will be quite happy to know who it is.
Akame: Who?
I don't answer as I jump out of the window and run off. A few seconds later, Akame caught up with me.
Akame: Who is your student?
Y/N: You'll see.
We ended up travelling to a river bank and encountered three people.
Bandit: The fact that she's here...means their hideout is really somewhere around here. It was worth searching steadily.
Bandit 2: Still, what a cute girl. Looks like we can still have some fun after we kill her.
Bandit 3: Don't damage her body too--
And in one second, I was already behind one of them, taking my dagger and stabbing it in their chest multiple times. I then take out a sand bomb and face the other one, using the hidden gun in my gauntlet, I aimed it at the one of the bandits chest and I fired. The gun fired and it pierced the other person's chest. I threw the sand bomb and it embedded into it's chest. I pull back on the trigger that was on the gauntlet and I fire, the bullet moving at high speeds and it pierces his chest and the sand explodes, causing it to emerge out of his eyes and mouth. It's safe to say he's dead.
I return my attention to Akame who was removing her sword from the corpse of the other.
Y/N: Targets eliminated?
Akame: (nods) Mhm.
Y/N: I see.
I gaze out into the forestry. The sound of the water running, this small river that flowed. It felt peaceful. It was...nice.
Y/N: I thought you went back to your base?
Akame: Aren't you coming?
Y/N: No...
Akame: Why not?
Y/N: This...is not my home...
Akame: Then where is your home?
Y/N: Some could say it is the Brotherhood, but...I have no home...
Akame POV
Something about Y/N is different...he makes me feel different. What is this feeling?
Y/N: Shouldn't you be heading back to base?
Akame: Oh...right. See you then?
Y/N: Perhaps.
When looking at his face...he seemed empty. He doesn't seem to show any emotion, even when he saw the boss again. I want to know more about him.
Y/N then puts his hood back on and heads off into the forest. I wonder what this Assassin Brotherhood is. And what are these Templar's? Perhaps the boss could tell us more about this. Something about Y/N caused him to be like this. I don't know what this feeling is, but...every time I think about him...my heart seems to beat faster. Why?
