Part 1~ The adoption centre

Josh's PoV
Waking up in the morning was normally a thing I hated, but it's different for today. The day before yesterday I graduated with a master degree from university, and I must admit sleeping freely was a new thing that I loved. Sadly today is the final day that I'll be sleeping on this bed, or even living in this house if I'm honest, not counting visits of course. (A/N I'm not sure about university stuff, but work with it for now)
Stretching a bit as I stood up, I walked out of the door and down the stairs, seeing that my parents already made me pancakes for breakfast. I smiled a bit and sat down on the chair near the dining table and started eating, the awkward tension between us making me uncomfortable.
"So... How do you feel Joshy? You can finally have your own flat!" My mother asked, trying to break the awkward silence.
"I've been waiting for this forever! No hate to this house by any means. Thanks for the pancakes mum!" I said putting down the utensils that I used on the table quietly, going back to my room to take out my luggages.
I've bought this apartment since the last year of university, but just never got to see it I guess.

At the new apartment~
I was living in the same building as my best friend in school, Tobi, who's house was a few levels below mines. I settled down with the basic things I needed, and sat down on the three-person sofa that I bought before. (A/N The author is too lazy to describe the whole place so... you'll see more in future chapters.)
Before at my old house where my parents lived with me, they didn't let me have a pet at all because of their 'allergies to fur'. They didn't seem to mind me getting a pet at my apartment, since they said I needed someone to keep me company. I brought out a box from amazon that was in my new bedroom, and started unboxing it, grinning as I saw that all the items have arrived.
I walked to the side table that was near the front door and grabbed my car keys, wallet and phone, before going down in the lift to find my car in the crowded car park.

At the adoption centre~
I've know the manager of this centre for a long time already, and this time I can finally feel natural coming here. Before I was always scared about the fact of my family knowing that I escaped at midnight and abandoned the main rules of the family. This place was an adoption centre for pet-human hybrids, but all the times I've been here I've actually never seen one face to face, all I did was chat about them with the manager.
"Hey Josh! Finally got to adopt a hybrid yourself mate?" Ethan asked excitedly as he walked out from the counter for cashiers. I just nodded quickly and he continued with the questions.
"What kind of hybrid do you want? Mainly dogs or cats, but we've others too." He said his usual lines, I just rolled my eyes at his reused sentence.
"I've thought about it for a while now, but I think a neko hybrid will be the best in my opinion." I said with a smirk, with him replying by grabbing a key from his key holder, opening a door that leaded to a corridor of adorable kittens. There were at least five metal doors that leaded to different hybrids.
He grabbed his clipboard that had many stacks of paper with a pen, clicking it once before saying, "This pile of paper are for the information of each of them. Feel free to ask me about them." He finished, then using his pen to correct something on his paper.

I trotted around on four in the room that I've been staying in for the past month or so. I was a blonde neko-human hybrid, and for some reason my recent owner disowned me within half a year already. I knew this place a little too well, as I could distinguish the sound of footsteps from different people, what food comes in which day of the month, and how to act weak so no one would like to adopt me again. I was honestly sick of human, except Ethan and JJ, who were the manager and part-time worker here respectively.
Speaking of which, I could hear footsteps again. I was cleaning the dust from my tail peacefully, but froze when I heard the oh so familiar footsteps. The flashbacks of my abusive owner beating me came back, hence why I broke down in sobs and whimpers again. My depression wasn't helping at all, only making my fear rise. I curled up into a ball near the brightly coloured wall of the room, hoping for my luck to rise, which meant no 'visits'.

I walked down the hallway of kittens, looking at each one closely. Most of them were either cleaning themselves, napping or just talking to themselves. The colours were amazing on each and every one of them, and everything was peaceful until I heard a faint whimper that came from some kitten near the back wall.
I continued walking down the hallway, noticing that the sobs and whimpers were getting louder. At this point I didn't even pay attention to all the other cats that were trying to grab my attention, since I was so focused on where that crying kitten was.
Then there I saw something stunning- Good or bad? I don't know, it's both. It was a handsome looking neko, well he's technically a male, but the bad side was he's the one crying. He had a quiff that was mixed in colours between brown, blonde and sliver, with a shiny streak of red in it, and his body was covered in barely visible scars. He hugged his legs close to his chest, face buried in between his legs and chest, tail wrapped around his waist, cat ears flat again his head which meant fear, looking so fragile and innocent, hiding at the corner of his room, near his kitten bed.
His left ear shot straight up went he heard the sound of us walking closer, and looked up for a split second. His ocean blue eyes were filled with lost and fright, as he stared up at me, then hid back to the back corner with his head down again.
"May I know this hybrid's name?" I asked politely to Ethan, he just nodded and searched his pile of paper with notes.
The hybrid just hid closer to the corner of the wall, so close that his whole back was laying on it. He doesn't like humans then I guess?
"Simon minter, a blonde neko-human hybrid. He's been disowned for at least four times, although I'm not completely sure about the reasons." Ethan said reading off the information paper of the hybrid, I looked to my side to see the kitten look up with a confused face as he heard the mentions of his name.

Simon's PoV
I heard the mention of my name as I looked up,  noticing the male that was staring back at me. I titled my head in confusion, as he just gave me a warm smile. He looked friendly- No Simon. Remember the last time you thought of the same thing for your old owner? What happened? Never again say that. He had greenish blue eyes that I could easily get lost in, with my gaze now on him, I slowly stood up from my spot as I controlled my emotions, trotting over slowly. He mumbled something at Ethan as he gave me a reassuring nod right after, his glance a lot more gentle than my other owners before.
I watched as he got a pen and signed on the documents that was needed if you wanted to adopt hybrids, and Ethan left afterwards taking the documents back to his room, leaving us in silence. Is it bad that I already have good vibes from him? I didn't even know his name yet...

Heyo everyone, Flame here and thank you for reading the first chapter of this fanfic! The information of the Sidemen will be changed a bit just to fit this plot, but I'll try my best to make it as close as possible. But anyways, till the next chapter, fire on!
