Hermitcon.

The one place I never would've dreamed of getting to go to. And yet, I'm actually here!

Granted, I'm not having as much fun as I would've hoped. I'm lingering among the booths, anxiously checking the time and fiddling with my cosplay.

I spent a few weeks making Wels armor with help from my dad. I couldn't not go in cosplay, and I figured Wels would be the best choice. I'm praying that I'll get dragged into a Diabolical or Hermitgang rap eventually.

First thing's first, though, there's an event I gotta go to. I'm going to try to go to as many of the Meet and Greets as I can, and the Convex Meet and Greet is happening soon.

However, I still have a few minutes before I should head over. And, so, I continue to wander aimlessly.

I'm starting to regret coming alone. I don't have the confidence to go up and talk to anyone, and I can't identify anyone I already might know, so I've just been by myself the whole time (which hasn't been too long yet, but still).

I'd been posting pictures of my homemade armor in the Hermittpad Discord server as I made it, so hopefully I would be easy to pick out.

I glanced at the time again and let out a sigh. No use waiting, might as well head over now.

The doors weren't open yet when I got to the auditorium so I got into line, bouncing on my heels in anticipation.

I could worry about my growing loneliness later.

Priority #1- Hug Scar.

My eyes absentmindedly wandered around the people nearby as I waited. Suddenly, I realized just how much I had been fidgeting. I took a deep breath to try to steady my nerves and forced my hands to my sides to still their fidgeting.

Unfortunately, I couldn't fight back my stupid nervous habit for long. I settled on fiddling with my bangs to give my hand something to do.

I spotted another person in the line. She was staring at me...

Did I know her?

I tried to act casual as I snuck glances in her direction, trying to determine if she was familiar. 

However, before I could place it, the doors to the auditorium opened and the line started moving.

Alright. Meet and Greet first, mystery girl later.

-One Meet and Greet Later-

I lingered near the exit to the auditorium, hoping to catch the mystery girl again. Sure, the next event seemed interesting, but something about her piqued my curiosity even more.

I spotted her as she left and I met her eyes, feeling a tinge of hope in my chest. I mustered a small nod and smile in greeting, but I didn't have the confidence to actually approach.

She glanced behind her before giving a wave back in response.

Before I could gather the courage to approach her, she pulled out her phone and I assumed I had been dismissed. I let out a small sigh. Oh well.

As I pulled out my own phone to check the time, however, I spotted a notification. Saph had DMed me over Discord. Confused, I opened it.

My eyes widened and my first instinct was to glance at the mystery girl. Anxiety slowly morphed into excitement as I shot a message back.

I waited for a response in anticipation, praying that the answer was what I thought it would be.

I felt a grin lock itself onto my face as I glanced at the mystery girl once more. Her eyes were wide and I realized she wasn't as much of a mystery as I had thought.

"No way," She said, meeting my eyes again.

"No way!" I repeated, frozen in shock for a second before practically tacklehugging Saph.

She hugged back and let out an excited laugh. "I can't believe it!"

"Oh my god this is amazing!" I laughed out, squeezing her a little. Thankfully, with the height difference I wasn't laughing right in her ear.

"I-I can't believe it! It's you! It's really you!"

I dissolved into a fit of giggles, starting to bounce a little again. "Oh my god, I was feeling so awkward, I didn't know anyone here, but you're here! I'm so glad to finally meet you!"

"I-I was scared to even approach you! I didn't know if it was you but I- here you are!"

I was practically vibrating with excitement as I pulled away from the hug. "Ok, we have got to spend the convention together. I already kinda made a schedule of where I want to go but it's flexible!"

"Yes! We totally have to!" Saph did a little bounce too.

I couldn't resist the urge to give her one last hug before starting to head back towards the booths. "Do you know of any other Hermittpadders that are here too?"

"I-I don't know! I've heard so much talk about people going, but I didn't think I'd be one of them so I didn't pay much attention!" She responded, walking alongside me.

I huffed a little and glanced at my phone yet again. "I probably should've been looking for that, huh? I knew dang well I was coming and I forgot to see who else was."

"Hm... I'll post it on Wattpad and check and see about others."

She was already going on Wattpad, so I waited for her to finish up. However, just before my gaze let itself wander again, Saph spoke again.

"Wait.... no way..."

"Hm?" I perked up and glanced at her phone, only to feel another spike of excitement.

Made it to Hermitcon! Who else is here?

"Oh my god!"

"Llama's here! Llama is here!!"

The other girl dropped into Llama's DMs at the speed of light, spamming the girl with messages. I grabbed onto her shoulder, bouncing with bundled energy and rambling as she texted. "She's here! I can finally meet her- you can finally meet her!! That's going to be so adorable!"

"We can meet her! Oh my god! We get to meet her!" She exclaimed, waiting for a reply.

I usually don't look at other people's phones or messages but this was an exception.

Near the booths on a bench, on the left side of the entrance when you first walk in :D

I giggled uncontrollably, trying (and failing) to contain my bubbling excitement. "Oh my god, oh my god, we gotta go find her!"

"Yes!" Saph said, sending one last message before grabbing my arm. "Let's go look for her!"

I nodded eagerly, wrapping my arm around her and following.

Priority #1.5- Llama hunting.

We wove through the crowd towards the entrance. I scanned the people for a familiar face, but Saph spotted her first.

"That's her!"

I gasped as I spotted her, frantically waving at the girl as we both called out to her. She saw us and started to run over.

Next thing I knew, I was yanked forward as Saph started sprinting with her arm still around mine.

Our arms came untangled as Saph pulled Llama into a hug, and I was quick to turn it into a group hug.

There was no stopping my excitement from bubbling over now.

"Hi! Oh my gosh!" Llama squealed. "When did you two get here? I just arrived."

"Uhh, little over half an hour ago? At least I did," I responded, cheeks starting to get sore from all the smiling (which wasn't a bad thing by any means, of course).

"I-I don't even know!" Saph replied, sounding a little breathless, "Been here a little while though!"

"Nice! How did you two find each other? I haven't seen anyone else that I recognize."

"Well... I recognized her cosplay actually!" Saph laughed, leaning back on her heels.

I giggled, hand automatically going to fidget with my armor. "Uh, should we walk and talk?"

"Yeah yeah!"

"I noticed that there was a pretzel stand over by the food booths," Llama informed, gesturing towards it and wiggling her eyebrows.

"Ooh! The soft kind?" Saph asked with another bounce.

I tilted my head a little, interested. "I don't think I've had soft pretzels before."

Never had the opportunity to. Looks like today was going to be that day, though.

"They're so good! You have to try them!"

"You haven't? Oh then we are definitely going to go get one."

I was being pulled again, by Llama this time.

"Yes, let's go!" Saph agreed, holding onto both of us.

I giggled and followed along, letting out a "Hell yeah!"

Pretzels, here we come.

-One Order Later-

As we waited for our pretzels, Llama pulled out her phone.

"Look, Ash and Hapy are here too!"

"Wait, really?" Saph asked, looking over the girl's shoulder.

I glanced over too, intrigued.

"And they're... doing a Diabolical duet?"

Now that really got my attention.

I let out a gasp. "Ooo! We gotta find them and join in. I'm in a fricken Wels cosplay, I can't not join in Diabolical."

"Looks like they're by the... tables?" Llama read, squinting at her phone before glancing around us. "Wait, we're by the tables too!"

"Oh! So we should be nearby, right?"

"Yup! Now, which table...?"

I started scanning the tables, listening for any singing as well. Not only was I going to meet even more Hermittpadders, I was getting to do Diabolical with them too!

"I'm guessing one with... two people standing on it?" Saph joked.

I smirked and glanced at her, about to retort, but both of the other girls were looking at the same thing.

"That might just be the one!" Saph said with a grin. I followed their gaze.

Oh. That table. With the two people standing on it.

I gave another small gasp and adjusted my armor. "Let's go, bois."

Saph grabbed my arm again, but before we set off, Llama stopped us.

"Should we wait for our pretzels first? I think they're just about done!"

"Oh wait- those-" The shorter girl let out a light laugh. "I got a little excited there."

Welp. In my excitement I almost forgot about the food, which is a rarity for me.

Luckily our pretzles didn't take much longer. Just as we got them I heard the first line of Diabolical ring out over the tables and I gasped.

"It is my time," I proclaimed. "Hold my pretzle."

Saph offered to take my pretzel with a laugh and I headed to the table, assuming they were following.

Priority #1.5...2?- Knightly Rap Battles.

As I approached I realized that (who I assumed was) Ash was in knight armor as well, though darker in color.

I tried to subtly catch her eye, and when she spotted me she quickly gestured for me to join her.

"Wassup fam, it's ya boi, Helsknight!" She yelled.

Without missing a beat I continued reciting. "You're beginning to annoy me."

I took a deep breath to steel myself and got ready to get on the table myself.

"-You're still trapped in a hole, you idiot!"

"Not for long!"

As Hapy was climbing down, I climbed up. Both Ash and I were grinning ear to ear as we rapped, perfect in our parts.

Plus, I had a little surprise for this sort of event...

My hand fell to the handle of a foam diamond sword, drawing it as smoothly as I could on my final verse. To add to the drama of it, I jokingly slashed at Ash at the very end.

She jumped backwards off the table with a loud laugh, and I couldn't hold back my own any longer either.

Now, ladies gentlemen and all others inbetween, I don't have a lot of brilliant ideas, especially not on the spot. But in that moment, as I stood alone on the table, I did.

"It's over, Ashakin, I have the high ground!" I yelled, victory asserted as Ash laughed even harder.

I climbed back down and 'sheathed' my sword, taking a quick moment to catch my breath as I calmed down.

A sudden squeal of "GrOup hUg gUys!?" alerted me to the hugging happening among us.

"Group hug!" I cheered, gladly joining in.

"Heck yes!"

"Hugs!"

"Yes! Group hug!"

"Whooo!"

I wish the hug lasted a little longer, but it's not like we have all day.

"You guys wanna go to that Meet and Greet later?" Ash asked as we pulled apart, "I think it's starting soon."

"Ooo, sounds exciting! Who's is it?" Llama asked, checking some pamphlet.

I let out a light sigh and ran a hand through my hair, pulling out my phone to check the time. "Uh... Idea bois? I think? We got a few minutes before we should head over."

I was getting a little worn out already, but it was so worth it. I'm not alone anymore!

"Ooh yes! I wanted to go to it anyways, and it'll be even better to go as a group!" Saph said, hands going to her pockets.

"Yea-! Anxiety can't get me if I'm in a group!!" Ash announced.

I grinned, vaguely realizing I started to fidget with my armor again. "I'm especially excited about the meet and greet with Wels in the afternoon- Hey! And now I have a Hels with me too!" I wrapped the other girl in a quick hug before pausing. "Uh, wait, haven't introduced myself- Do you know who I am or no?"

Ash gave an awkward laugh. "Nope! I assume you're a Hermittpadder since you're with Llama and Saph buuut, no idea who you are."

"I thought you were some weird stalker or whatever here to bask in my glory," Hapy quipped with a snicker.

I snorted before chuckling. Might wanna clear that up, then!

"Yup, Hermittpadder! I'm Snouwball."

"Pffft- Oooh ok! Well, hai!" Ash greeted before looking at her watch. "Should we get to the Meet and Greet? We have about five minutes to get there-"

"Doesn't ring a bell, my head isn't working today," Hapy said, glancing at their phone. "And, yeah, we're definitely going to be late at this rate."

Honestly, not being recognized stung just a little bit, but I quickly brushed it off.

"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Llama declared, tossing her pretzel wrapper in the trash.

Saph finished hers and nodded in agreement. "Let's go!"

... Did I even try my pretzel yet?

"Whoo! Les gooooo!" Ash called, starting towards the auditorium and walking backwards to look at us.

"Oh wait, my pretzel! I can finish it quick, let's go."

Saph handed it to me. I gave her a smile in thanks and took a big bite before following Ash. "Woo! Ide'r Boys 'ere we come!" I cheered with a full mouth.

So, off we went, me devouring my pretzel, Llama and Saph holding hands (adorable), and Ash full of energy. I was starting to regret trying to chow down the whole pretzel as we got closer to the auditorium, but oh well, the decision had already been made.

Llama looked a little panicked as she checked the time. "Okay, so, we have 2 minutes to get into the auditorium, find our seats, and settle down."

"We're all sitting together I assume?" Saph asked.

"Of course!" Ash replied, laughing. "I didn't find you guys just to lose you!"

"Oh god please," Hapy agreed with a hum.

I sure as hell wasn't gonna object. My eyes passed over my fellow Hermittpadders and I felt a tinge of warmth in my chest.

The day had barely begun, and I already felt like this was going to be the best day ever.

"Well then, what're we waiting for?" Saph announced with a grin.

With that, we arrived at the second Meet and Greet together.
