/-+* Jevin's POV *+-\
"Wels!?"
Wels turned to me, "oh! Hi Jevin!" he said while waving.
I swiftly ran to him and hugged him tightly, "You're back!"
"Yeah, did you miss me? Also, Jevin, please, I can't breath." Wels said.
"Oh, sorry." I chuckled letting him go, "so how was your break?" I asked him
"It was... to put it mildly, a trip back to memory lane."
"Really? did you visit your hometown?"
I noticed Wels' face shifted a little, "I guess, yeah. You can say that. I payed it a little visit." He said, "I also went and trained more, so now I'm one step closer to becoming a full Paladin Knight!" He said with a big tone change to excitement.
"That's great news! I'll go tell the others you're back, I gotta go now, see ya, Wels!"
"Later, Jev!"
/-+* Grian's POV *+-\
I sighed as I sat on top of the barge, looking over the shopping district, feeling very tense because of the incident. I'm not sure X is going to forgive him just like that. And I don't know the results yet, so I'm currently very worried. I thought about it all while watching the sun that was setting and was almost down, knowing it's only a matter of milliseconds before it rises again-
BdoubleO100 went to bed. Sweet Dreams!
Yep, knew it. I flew down to the road sighing, and on the corner of my eye, I saw EX walking from the portal, seemingly seeming both relieved and very tense. I immediately ran up to him and hugged him, which surprised him, "G-grian?"
"EX! you were worrying me, dammit!" I sighed.
EX looked at me with guilt, "...I'm sorry, I just lost control, I didn't mean to attack him, I'm sorry that I ruined it a-"
"EX, stop apologizing dammit!" I said, and he stopped, "you don't need to apologize, It's my fault, I was there, I should have also stood up for you-"
"Look, I get you when you ask me to stop apologizing, but you don't need to apologize for something you didn't need to apologize, Grian. It was my fault either way. I also got Stress involved when she didn't have to get involved."
"So, are you still on the server?" I asked him tensely, fearing the answer.
"...yes, Stress explained what happened to X, and he said I'm free to go, but he'll talk to me later," EX stated nervously, also seeming tense.
I sighed in full relief, "I'm just glad you're still on the server and okay."
" well, I'm just glad I didn't get sent back to the void," he said in relief, before his face shifted to a sad face again, "but it seems that's what the others wanted-"
"Holy cow- Evil X!?"
Me an EX turned, and saw Wels, which looked both surprised and confused.
"Oh! Wels! you're back from your break I assume?" I greeted.
"Uh, yeah." he chuckled before turning to EX, "...Is there something going on? Was I missing out on something while I wasn't here?" He asked confused.
I chuckled back awkwardly, "Yeah... you missed a lot alright.".
"Uh... I think I'll get going now, Gri." EX excused himself before flying away not daring to look back at Wels. After he left, Wels turned back to me.
"So... can I get a recap of events?" Wels asked.
"Yeah sure, but let's sit somewhere, there's a lot of things going on that you would want to know and want an explanation about."
"So, you're telling me, Evil X is on the server, there's a literal war going on at the moment, and cats are trying to overtake!?" Wels said, still trying to comprehend everything I told him.
"Yeah, everything is true- wait where did that last one come from?"
"I thought you said your cats are starting to gain the ability to build?"
"Yeah, but- nevermind let's just go with that, it sounds more threatening and cool." I shrugged, "Confused with anything I said?"
"I mean, yes. I'm still can't really comprehend everything that you just told me about, but I don't have any questions." Wels said, before he stopped talking and silence took over, I assume he was deep in thought.
The silence has been going on for around 5 minutes now, "Wels? you there? what are you thinking about?" I said to snap him out of his thoughts, and in response he jumped in surprise.
"O-oh, sorry, I was just deep in thought, thinking about EX being on the server and all, the war going on, Hels, and-"
"Hels? what's or who's that?" I asked.
His expression shifted and he looked like he said something wrong, "He's my twin brother-"
"You have a twin brother?" I repeated in surprise, "I never knew."
"Well, yeah... I never really talk about him that much." Wels replied, seeming a little tense talking about the topic.
"Mind telling me more?" I asked curiously, but then I realized Wels was probably uncomfortable with speaking about it, hence why he didn't tell everybody about it, "but you don't have to if you're not comfortable with speaking about it-"
"Actually... Can I just tell you? I've been needing to get this burden off my chest for a while now." Wels sighed, "Not even X really knows about this, like, he knows about where I came from and all, but he doesn't know about my brother. The only other hermit that knows about this is Beef."
"Sure, I suppose. I'm all ears."
"oh, and you won't tell anyone about this, right?"
"Of course."
"Alright, so..."
Wels took a deep breath, "I have a twin brother, named Hels. We used to get along pretty fine. Well, as well as normal siblings would get along, and we both dreamt of becoming knights. Everything started out fine. We went to the same schools together, and grew together. everything was fine, until a couple years ago, when we were still pretty young."
"What happened?"
"Well..." Wels stayed silent for a few seconds, "One day, Hels and I were testing out new spells combined with melee attacks in our combat school, like we normally do. But that day, Hels chanted a spell wrong and instead he chanted this unknown and forgotten spell, and he sort of just... Vanished. Nobody knew where he went, he vanished out of thin air. I didn't know what happened to him, well, that was until the beginnings of this season of hermitcraft."
He continued, "So, apparently, what happened was that he got sent to this alter-dimension place called the Hels dimension, and another thing I learnt is that he apparently died in that dimension. But, around the beginnings of this server, Beef, you know, VintageBeef, made this duplication machine, I tested it for him, and somehow, that actually revived Hels and brought him to hermitcraft for some unknown reason. A few hours after I tested the machine, he confronted me, but he's no longer the Hels I knew, no, he has... completely changed."
"If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by 'Completely changed'?"
"Well, for reasons that even I don't know, he looked like he... despises me. He said that he figured something out while being trapped in the Hels dimension, and he despises me for it. He didn't even hesitate to attack me, and he swore that he'll.... kill me and destroy the whole server." Wels told me, his voice slightly shaking, "So, we fought, I won, but I wasn't able to get rid of him, and I didn't have the heart to kill him and accidentally perma-death him. Hels was able to get away right after I defeated him, and I'm pretty certain he's still in the server."
Wels took a deep breath as he finished his story, "It must be hard when you had to fight him." I commented with sympathy.
"Yeah..." Wels nodded, "especially since he was the only member of our family that was alive besides me."
I processed that statement for a second, before being surprised, "You mean the rest of your family is deceased? what happened!?" I asked, "I'm sorry If you're bothered with me asking, I'm just too curios-"
"No, I've actually been wanting to tell you about this since we first met in season 6." He said surprising me again.
"Really? Why did you want to tell specifically me about this?"
"Okay, then let me tell you it straight."
Wels took another deep breath, "So, to put it shortly, you look like the guy that killed my whole family." he said seriously.
I legit jumped at that, "wait seriously!?"
"Okay, so to tell you the full story, this happened before you came to hermitcraft, and a little after EX tried to destroy hermitcraft for the first time, so only a couple of years ago, I was already a member of hermitcraft. One day, while I was playing on hermitcraft, my communicator beeped, and I opened it. In my inbox, there was a warning message sent by the Watchers CHQ-"
[A/N: btw Watchers' CHQ = Watchers' Communication HeadQuarters]
"Wait, Watchers CHQ!? Does that mean you're a watcher?" I interrupted him.
"I- Yes, I forgot that not everyone on the server knows that, but continuing my story," he answered, I nodded, I knew what he was talking about now. he continued now, "So, I got a warning message from the Watchers CHQ, saying that the Watchers' realm was being attacked. I ignored it at first, thinking that they'll handle it quickly themselves. But, not even a while later, I got another warning message that said that the attacker attacked my hometown, which shocked and caught me off guard completely. So... I had to go to check. I logged off from Hermitcraft and quickly went to the Watchers' realm, and to my homwtown... but when I arrived at the town... everything was already..." Wels trailed off, and I could see tears starting to form in his eyes.
I acted immediately and comforted him, "Wels, you don't need to continue your story if you can't-"
"No, I'm fine," He once again took another deep breath, "It's just that remembering about it without crying is still hard for me... I haven't completely moved on."
"I understand. like I said, you don't have to continue if you don't want to-"
"I'm fine, it's okay, Grian." Wels calmed himself down, "Okay... continuing, so I arrived at my hometown, I saw that everything was already... destroyed. Only ashes and ruins remained, flames still burning. I learnt no one besides me lived, and I was just lucky that I was on hermitcraft at the time of the attack... And what's worst was that I saw the attacker as they left through a portal... I only caught a glimpse of them, and was able to determine some of their features. And remember when I said you both looked similar? Well they had dirty blonde hair, just like you, and their hair length was almost the same as yours."
I flinched a little, "So they really looked like me?"
"Yeah, I never got a glimpse of their face, but as far as I noticed, yes, you both looked very similar." Wels nodded, "but, then I think it's just a coincidence, since a thing I learnt after the attack was that the attacker had used high tier Admin magic to attack the towns, and so it's said that the attacker was an admin. There was no witnesses besides me, every one of them were killed. And I also learnt that they attacked other 8 other towns, and that the maniac apparently wiped about 1/3 of the Watcher population!" He then turned to me, "And Grian, you're not an admin, right? I heard you were just an enchanted player-"
"Yeah, I'm just a normal player with enchanted Creativity, Accuracy, and, Memory." I answered swiftly.
"I know, and since the attacker was an admin, I'm sure it's just a coincidence that you both look similar. Back at the start of season 6 I wasn't actually that sure, but after getting to know you more, I doubt you're the type of person to do all of that, even if you have a lot of chaotic tendencies." Wels sighed, "To be completely honest, I'm seeking revenge. I know that's a bad thing to want, but I'm not just doing it for my own satisfaction. As a watcher, my job is to protect the entire realm of minecraft, and so I will kill the culprit when I see them, for the safety of the realm. And that's why... after the attack, I chose to start training as a paladin."
"To protect the entire realm of minecraft?" Ah, If only you knew the other Watchers' true motive, Wels. I blinked, "So you're still hunting the attacker down now?"
"Not really, I think I'll have to train and get stronger first, seeing that the attacker was strong enough to attack 9 towns, that were full of strong and more experienced Watchers. Also the fact that they were able to do it alone is concerning." Wels stated, before turning to me, "I think I'll go now, Grian, thanks for talking with me, I feel a little better after telling you all of that, don't tell the others, okay?"
"Yeah, no problem Wels. Thanks for telling me." I nodded.
"Oh, there you are, Wels!"
We turned to see X, "Oh, Did I interrupt something, you two?"
"No, X, we were just talking," Wels shrugged, "Do you need me for something?"
"Just wanted to welcome you back from your break. What were you two talking about?" X asked.
"I was telling Wels about everything he missed while he was on his break, about EX, the turf war, and that stuff, You know." I said.
"Well, I'll go now, Grian, thanks for the talk!" Wels said, getting up.
"Anytime, Wels." I smiled.
Then X and Wels left, leaving me alone above the Mycelium Resistance HQ to think about the conversation I just had.
So, Wels is a Watcher, and he thinks it's just a coincidence that I look similar to the person that attacked his town, killed his family, and did a genocide I thought, before sighing But something that he should have realized is that
There are no such coincidences in this world
