"MAYDAY! MAYDAY! This is ambo 67! We need police and ambulance backup to our current location, paramedic down!"

3 hours earlier:
Chase and Riley climb out of the ambulance having just returned from a call. Correction another call. Call number 9 to be precise. It's been one hell of a shift. Busy, slow and never ending and it's only halfway complete. The two medics restock the ambulance before heading into the common room. Riley slumps down in one of the chairs and places her head down on here arms that lay on the table, with a groan.
"You alright Riles?" Casey asks, sitting down next to her. She shakes her head.
"Yeah, I'm just super tired." She says standing up.
"Go sleep whilst you have the chance" Casey says. Riley nods before walking into the bunk area, alongside Chase. Their beds are next to each other's. They both flop down onto their beds with a sigh before trying to sleep. Just as they fall asleep the alarm sounds.
"Squad 3, Truck 81, Ambulances 61 and 67, building fire and the corner of westling and high court. Unknown trapped"
They both roll out of their beds and join everyone else, who are all running towards their vehicles.

When they arrive on scene they immediately get out and start helping people away from the building. They set up triage and start treating the most seriously injured. Truck and Squad head inside the building to start a search. After 1 hour, the building is clear and they fire is contained. Chase and Riley return the scene, having just taken a patient to Chicago med. They load up one of the last patients before speeding away to Chicago med. Arriving at the hospital, they unload the vic, before rushing them inside.
"23-year-old female. Severe smoke inhalation and minor burns to her arms. B/P 120/60, Pulse 110 and SATS 92 risen to 98 on 15 litres of O2." Riley Says, as they transfer the patient over the other bed. They leave the patient in the capable hands of Dr Choi before heading back out to the ambulance. They sit and complete all the necessary paper work before stripping the sheets on the bed. They go inside and swap the dirty sheets for some new ones and hand in a copy of the paper to the main desk before heading back out to the ambulance. They put on the sheets before heading back to 51. It's nearly been 3 hours since the building fire call out. Chase and Riley just want to go and sleep. As they pull into the driveway, a call comes across the radio.
"Main to Ambulance 67, are you available?"
"Ambulance 67 to main, go ahead." Riley replies, using the radio inside the ambulance.
"Man, down for unknown causes. (gives address)"
"Copy that main. This is ambulance 67 responding." The partners look at each other before pulling out of the driveway, switching the light and sirens on. They wave to squad as they return to 51, before pulling out onto the street and heading to the location of the call.

When they arrive at the location they get out and grab all their equipment and the gurney. They wheel everything over to the vic, who is laying on the ground, not moving.
"No pulse" Chase says, checking for a pulse.
"He's been dead for a while" Right as Chase says that, gun shots go off all around them. Chases dives over Riley and they crawl their way behind a nearby car.
"MAYDAY! MAYDAY! This is ambo 67! We need police and ambulance backup to our current location, paramedic down!" Riley scream into her radio.
"Chase? Chase look at me...you're gunna be okay" She says, tears in her eyes, as she presses down on Chases abdomen where he was hit multiple times by the flying bullets. He weakly smiles at her before lossing consciousness. Minutes later, sirens sound as a blue truck pulls up. Antonio and Ruzek come rushing over.
"Antonio!" Riley screams frantically.
"Riley, what happened?" He asks, putting his hands over hers, who are covered in Chases blood.
"I...we responded to this call. Man down, he's dead Antonio, has been for a while, and then bullets started flying. Chases dived over me."
He looks at her sympathetically as Ruzek radios for an ETA on the ambulance.
"Ambulance is 2 minutes out" Ruzek says, kneeling down next to them, gun raised.
"Oh, god! This is my fault. He dived in front of me"
"Hey Riley! Listen to me! This is not your fault. It looks like you two were targeted, okay? He protected you because he loves you. The ring on the chain around your neck proves that" Antonio says, refferring to her engagement ring she keeos on a around her neck whilst working .Trying to calm Riley down, Antonio keeps talking to Riley. Just then the ambulance pulls up and it's Dawson and Brett. They load him into the ambulance with the help of Antonio. Ruzek jumps into the drivers seat, as Brett and Dawson jump in with Chase. Antonio holds Riley back. The ambulance speeds off to Chicago med.

"No let me go!" Riley screams, trying to escape Antonio's grip. He grabs her shoulders, forcing her to look at him.
"Hey! Hey! We're going to go to Chicago Med now." They climb into Antonio's truck. He pulls away, lights and sirens blaring, speeding towards Chicago med. Halfway there, Antonio notices Riley is unconscious. He sees the blood, dripping from her abdomen.
"Riley! Riley wake up!" He shouts, trying to wake her up.
"This is Detective Dawson 21st district. I'm inbound to Chicago med with a gunshot victim. This is related to the paramedic shooting. I need a medical team waiting outside med!" Antonio radios to dispatch.
"Copy that Dawson" Dispatch says, before radioing through to med.

Antonio pulls into the car park and leap out of the truck. Will rushes to help get Riley out.
"Gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Didn't even notice until we were driving here. She was in shock and helping Chase." Antonio says, placing her onto the gurney. Will nods before rushing he inside. Antonio looks down and sees he's covered in Chase's and Riley's blood. He takes a deep, shaky breath in, before rushing inside. A few minutes later he's joined by everyone from 51 and intelligence.
"Antonio. Antonio are you okay?" Gabby asks, rushing to her brothers after joining everyone in the waiting room. He doesn't reply, instead he just continues to stare at his bloody hands.

After 30 or so minutes, Will and Ethan walk into the waiting room. Everyone looks at them, some standing. Ethan steps forward.
"Okay, so I was dealing with Chase. When he came in he was in critical condition, he still is. We stabilised him as much as possible before sending him up for surgery. Dr Rhodes is operating on him now. He was intubated and sedated when we sent him up" Everyone sighs, knowing it's still 50/50.
"And Riley?" Antonio asks, standing up. Will steps forwards as Ethan steps back.
"Again, when Riley came in she was in critical condition. We stabilised her and intubated her. She's currently in the ICU. We're monitoring her until she goes to surgery. Which she can't until we raise her blood pressure." Will says, looking at Antonio, trying to figure whether or not he is actually okay.
"Thanks doc."
"I'm just doing my job. Ermm it's not really allowed but in this situation, I don't really care. Someone can go sit with Riley. I mean I would but we're really busy. I don't want her to be alone as there's a chance she could wake up and panic." Will says, obviously affected by the whole situation himself.
"Chief. I'd like to stay." Hermann says, moving towards Boden. Chief Boden looks towards Casey, asking for his approval about removing Hermann from Truck. Casey nods his head.
"Okay Hermann you stay. Everyone else clear out. Shift is over in a few hours until then Hermann can keep us updated" Boden orders. Everyone nods, before slowing exiting the hospital. Hermann follows Will upstairs to the ICU and sits next to Riley. Will then goes back downstairs to the ED.

He sees Antonio still sitting there, his team ready to leave to work out who shot Riley and Chase. Once everyone, except Antonio leaves, Will walks into the waiting room.
"Hey man, why don't you we get you cleaned up. I can find you a spare top" Will says, patting Antonio on the shoulder. Antonio nods and follows Will out of the waiting room and into the staff room.

Meanwhile in the ICU:
"He's stable now, I wanna keep him sedated for the next 24 hours or so. I'm going to go check on his partner then update 51" Rhodes says, talking to Nat and a nurse. He walks across the ICU and into Riley's room, like Chase she is also sedated and intubated.
"Hey Hermann" Rhodes says, checking Riley over.
"Hey, how's Chase doing?" Hermann asks, looking at Connor.
"He's stable now. We fixed the damage and everything looks good. I want to keep him sedated and intubated for the next 24 hours to give his body a rest but after that he should make a full recovery" He says, adding some notes into Riley's chart.
"Good that's good. What about Riley?" He asks, looking at Riley who is laying down in the bed next to him.
"Well, she's critical but stable. I'm going to take her into surgery right now actually. You should go let the others know. When she's stable after surgery, I'm gunna have her and Chase moved into the same ICU room. We have a double in the corner." Connor says, getting the attention of a nurse and unlocking the brakes on Riley's bed.
"Okay, thanks doc" Connor nods before wheeling Riley out and down to surgery. Hermann takes a deep breath before making his way outside to call the others and get some fresh air.

Over at 51:
Boden sits at his desk, trying to work on paperwork, but more concerned for his two seriously injured paramedics. His phone rings and Hermann's name appears on the screen.
"Chief Boden" He says, as he answers the phone.
"Hey Chief. I have some news"
"How are they?"
"Well, Chase made it through surgery and is stable in the ICU. Doc wants to keep him sedated and intubated for the next 24 hours to let his body rest. All in all, if everything pans out he'll make a full recovery" Hermann says, sitting down on the bench nearest to him.
"That's great, and Riley?" Boden asks concerned.
"Rhodes just took her to surgery. She was stable though. I'll let you now more when I know" Hermann says, sighing.
"Okay. I'll go let everyone else know. I'll talk to you soon." Boden says, standing up and moving away from his desk, towards his office door.
"Yeah, see ya chief." With that, Hermann hangs up and Boden heads the round everyone up. He gets everyone into the meeting room.
"Okay so I just spoke to Hermann. Chase is stable and in the ICU. Doc says surgery went well but he wants to keep him sedated and intubated for the next 24 hours to let his body rest" Hearing this everyone sighs with relief, but not before wondering how Riley is. They all look at Boden for answers.
"Rhodes just took Riley to surgery. Hermann says she was stable when she went. Doc says if everything goes well they'll both be okay." Everyone lets out a little cheer upon hearing this.
"Dismissed" Boden says, before heading back to his office. Everyone files out of the meeting room and resumes what they were doing before.

Meanwhile at the 21st District:
"This is our guy. Martin Lupozie. Lives here, at (*gives address*)" Jay says, pointing to the photo he just pinned up on the board.
"Let's gear up!" Voight says, grabbing his vest and jacket. They all vest up and head out to their cars. They speed away to the address, lights and sirens blaring.

When they all arrive, they get into position, spread around the house, before kicking in the door.
"CHICAGO PD!!" Jay shouts, as he moves his way into the house.
"Don't move! Put the gun down now!" Ruzek shouts from the kitchen, obviously having found who they were looking for. The man does as he's told before Kevin cuffs him.
"Martin Lupozie, you're under arrest for the attempted murder of two Chicago paramedics and for illegal possession of a firearm." Al says, walking the man outside. Everyone goes back to the cars, and heads back to the district. Jay and Erin head to 51 to tell them they got they guy.

Jay and Erin walk inside and see everyone is already in the common room so they get everyone's attention.
"Hey guys, we got him. He's going away for a long time" Jay says, reassuringly. Everyone sighs with relief upon hearing this.
"Thank you" Boden says, shaking both their hands. They shake it off before leaving. They head back to the district. When they arrive back, the finish up all their paper work before heading home. It's really late.

Back at 51:
Shift finished 10 minutes ago. Everyone changed out and stuck around until everyone from the next shift arrived. When they did they all left and went home. But being 51 they weren't home for long as they didn't want their people in the hospital by themselves. They all had the next 48 hours off, so they decided to hand around the waiting room tonight, waiting for news on Riley and the condition of Chase before finally calling it a night – or I guess morning – at around 4am, when Dr Rhodes finally came out baring some good news. 
"Riley is fine. We fixed all the damage and put in a temporary drain to remove any excess fluid. She'll be intubated and sedated for the next 12 hours at least but after that we can wake her up and she should make a full recovery, baring no complications." Rhodes said, looking worn out. Before anyone could even think to ask, he moved onto the condition of Chase.
"Chase is stable. We lightened his sedation earlier and he woke up for a few minutes. We spoke to him and calmed him down before we sedated him again. Long story short him and Riley should be coming off of the ventilators around the same time." He says, watching as everyone, one again sighs with relief. He assures them that they are okay and that he will be staying in the hospital in case of an emergency. He practically begs them to go home. Last to leave is Severide. He makes sure everyone is gone before walking over to Connor.
"Thank You. I know we've had our differences in the past. But I want to put that behind us" Severide says, reaching his hand out. Connor returns the favour and shakes Severide's hand.
"Sure. And Kelly, I was just doing my job" Connor says. Kelly nods, before bidding the doctor farewell and finally leaving the hospital. Connor grabs a cup of coffee before making his way to Riley and Chase's room. They were both moved into the joint room. He sits down on the sofa that's in the room before just sitting and starring at the couple in front of him. It's not long before he falls asleep.
