'Its going to be a long night..'

Rileys p.o.v:
Waiting...its one of the hardest things to do, and when your waiting to know if the person you love is going to live or not, its endless. Its been 6 hours...6 hours simce Chase was rushed for live saving surgery..6 hours since I was told he was still alive. I slept for the first 4 hours, but after I awoke from a nightmare, Ive been wide awake. Jay has not left my side once. 51 are have been in and out, some leaving due to family back home. Its around 9 o'clock at night, everyone had returned and there is still no sign of any news. Im about to get up to ask a nurse when I see Dr Rhodes and Will walkimg towards us. Everyone stands, desperate for news. (Me, Will, Kelly, Rhodes)

"Hes alive, he had some bleeding which we fixed and that should heal in a few weeks. The ICP monitor went in and he is currently critical, but stable in the ICU. Obviously hell staying sedated untill we know more about his head injury" Rhodes says, looking around, but at me mostly. Everyone sighs with relief. I step forwards and hugs Connor. "Thank you Connor, soo much" "Your welcome, Im just going to check hes setteles, Ill be back in a few minutes and you can come see him." I nod and he walks off, I notice Kelly follow him.

Kellys p.o.v:
I walk down the corridor after Rhodes. "Dr Rhodes.." He stops and turns around. "I know weve had issues in the past, but thank you..you saved Herman, helped save Clarke and now Chase..so thanks you" I say, meaning everyword. "Your welcome Kelly, and the past is in the past" We nod and split up, I head back to the others.

Rileys p.o.v:
A few minute later, Connor returns and leads me and Jay towards Chases room. We stop outside so that I can ready myself. I take a deep breath and walk inside. I look to Chase, he looks so pale and broken. There're are wires and tubes everywhere, even though I know what they are for they still scare me. My eyes tear up and my legs give way, and for the 2nd time that day I find myself being caught by the arms of my bestfriend. He sit me down in the chair next to Chases bed and hugs me tightly.

After about 10 minutes I gather up enough courage to go and tell everyone that they should go home and sleep as they have shift in a few hours. I promise to call or message them as soon as we hear anything. I walk back to Chases room and sit down. I hold his and dont let go. I find myself falling asleep. I hear the door open and see Connor walking in. He check on Chase one more time and hands me a blanket. "Thanks" "Im staying here tonight, incase he needs me, plus im too tired to drive" He laughs the last bit. We both fall asleep soon after.

Im woken by someone gently shaking me. "Riley.." I look up to see its Jay. I look over to check on Chase before turning my attention back to Jay. He holds up 2 bags. "I brought you a change of clothes and wash kit becasue I know you wont be leaving anytime soon and some food. Go and get changed and then we can eat." I hug him to thank him and walk diwn the corridor to the bathrooms. I change and freshen up before returning to Chases room. "See thats better now eat up" Jay says handing me the other bag. I open it to reveal burger, fries and a milkshake from my favourite cafe. "Thank you Jay" I say laughing and tucking in. An hour later Jay has to leave for work, but he promises me he's stop by later that day.

So I sit next to Chases bed and hold his hand. I silently pray that he gets better, that he'll wake up. The next few minutes all happened so fast. His machines and monitors all started going crazy. Doctors and Nurses flooded into the room and I was ushered out. "Let I wanna stay" I half scream. "Miss please wait out here"
I stand outside his room in tears, watching the man I love being revived for the 2nd time in 24hours. They shock him twice before they get him back. They unhook him from the vent and manually breath him whilst rushing him out and down the corridor. "What going on!!??" I shout wanting some answers. Will walks out and over to me. He holds my arms to support me as Im hysterically crying again. "Chases intercranial pressure imcreased and the swelling on his brain has gotten worse so theyve rushed him into surgery..Riley he might not wake up and even if he does he might not be the Chases you once know..You need to prepare yourself..." My mind and body freezes as I take in what hes just said. My body goes weak and I end up on the floor. I cant breath and my eyes are like fountains of tears. Will kneels next to me and hugs me tightly. I whisper.."I never told him I love him...I wanted to talk to him last night but then all this happend..what if I never get to tell him??!" I ask Will. I guess he doesnt really know what to say because he just hugs my tighter.

A few minutes pass before he speaks up again, "Riley, Chase is one of the strongest people I know, if anyones going to pull through this its him.." I look up at him and thank him. He helps me stand up and he walks me back to the waiting room. He leaves me alone for a few minutes because he gets paged. I put my head in my hands and continue to cry. I feel a strong pair of arms loop round my back and look up to see my bestfriend..Jay. I calm down enough to realise that his partner, Detective Erin Lindsay is sitting across from us.

(Jay, Me, Erin)
"Riley, I know nows not a good time but we need to ask you a few questions"
"Questions, about what?"
"Riley what happened to Chase wasnt an accident, someone deliberately drove into Chase we have CCTV evidence." I sit there shocked...what did they just tell me.... who would do this to Chase. "Okay, ask away" "Do you know of anyone that might want to hjrt Chase??" Jay asks looking sympathetically at me. "Erm..em...not that I know of, although he did mention getting some weird phone calls be we though it was just someone trying to sell something." They look at eachother then back at me. "Okay well Ill bet out tech partners onto that anything else?" "No..sorry..who would want to hurt him?" I say breaking down again. Jay comes up and hugs me again. "Voight said I can stay with you and they said they'll keep me updated...because as of now Intellegence is working this case" I just nod into his chest, still crying to much to make any attempt of speaking. I notice Erin stand up, pecks Jay on the lips and walks away. Once I regain myself I look to Jay. "How are things between you and Erin since the baby" I say smiling. "Things are great..baby and mom are both great" he say reaching for his phone. He shows me some pictures of Erin and Ember.

We both smile and ahh. "Haha the next one really funny. Its right after her run the other day and she caught me.."

We both laugh we we heard someone come through the doors. I look up to see Chases neuro surgeon. "Hes okay, we were able to stop the bleeding amd swelling and hes going to be okay, untill he wakes up we wont know if theres any damage but for now hes alive" I thank hi before pulling  my phone out to call chief  Boden.

Chief Bodens p.o.v:
I just walked back into my office after returning from a call. I sit down just as my phone rings.
"Wallace Boden speaking"
"Hey cheif its Riley, I was just calling to update you on Chase. He had to have emergency surgery on his brain but he pulled through and they stopped the bleeding and swelling. We wont know if theres any damage untill he wakes up but for now its looking good." "Thats great news, how are you holding up?" "Im okay, ill be better once I know hes going to be okay for sure" "call me if you need anything or find something new out, Ill go update everyone" "thanks cheif will do" then she hangs up. I stand up and gather everyone in the meeting room.

"Okay so Ive just heard from Riley, Chase was rushed into surgery on his brain, hes stable now and theyve managed to stop the swelling and bruising. They wont know if hes got any permanent damage until he wakes up but untill then, all our prayers and thoughts go towards Chase" I get a mixed emotion reaction. The moment ends with us rushing out to our next call.

Rileys p.o.v..a few days later:
Im sitting next to Chases bed and once again im holding his hand. They took Chase of the vent this morning and lowered his sedation over night. So hopefully he should walk up soon. Its about midday, when I feel Chases hand move. I instantly look up to see his eyes slowly opening. He looks turns from calm and peaceful to worried and confused so I put my hand on his cheek and get him to look at me. He calms down and I say, "you're okay, you had an accident are in hospital. You hurt you stomach and head. Im just going to get the doctors okay?" He nods and I quickly go and find his doctor. They immediately take him off for some test and Im left waiting in his room alone. Theres a knock at the door and I see Connor standing there holding 2 coffees. He walks in a hands me one. I hug him to thank him then he sits down next to me. "I heard Chase woke up thats great.." "yeah he seemed okay, they took him for some tests but everything looks good" I say smiling geniunly for the first time im days. 30 minutes later  Chase returns and Im told that there no permanent damage but they want him to stay in for a few more days. I phone the firehouse to update them and they say they'll come by after shift. Untill then I spend time cuddle up with Chase just talking. Being in Chases arms again and knowing hes safe makes me feel so happy.

I look Chase in the eyes, "I love you Chase..I dont know what I would have done if something had happened to you.." he looks and me, places a kiss on my cheek and then tells me, "I love you too Riley. Im sorry for putting you through this" We spend the rest of the afternoon talking with people from 51, our friends, our family.
