Turn of Events
"Are you sure there are no loopholes at all ?" Clandestine asked for the umpteenth time.
"For moons' sake !" Nemertea exclaimed, flashing her luminous stripes in patterns that most likely stood for multiple curses in Aquatic. "It's an enchantment to make her feel better ! How many loopholes could there possibly be ?!"
Clandestine shrunk behind the couch Kaolin was lying on, muttering a, "Just making sure.."
They were in the main cave once again. The dragonets, along with Turtle and Kinkajou, were surrounding the mini throne Kaolin was currently on while Mirage's parents watched from the other couch, Bass sitting on it and his wife leaning against it.
"Can we just be done with this ?" Nemertea stomped.
"Well you're in a cheerful mood," Kinkajou remarked brightly. The happy tone certainly didn't match the thick tension of the room.
"She always is," Firefly said jokingly. "She's the cheerfullest of cheerful."
"Ummmm..." Clandestine spoke up. "Kaolin is doing it again."
All eyes were on the off-white dragonet instantly. Clandestine had informed them that the hybrid sometimes becomes conscious enough to get panick attacks. This must be one of those times.
On Firefly's right, Turtle cleared his throat. He held what looked like a fan seashell sliced in half in one talon and a scroll with scribbles and ink splotches in the other talon.
"I enchant this seashell to cure all of the wounds the dragon it touches has at that moment, whether it be a simple scar, a hideous burn, or a broken bone, and bring them back from unconsciousness with all their memories in tact, even when they are not touching or in contact with this seashell afterwards," he recited.
He then dropped the enchanted seashell onto Kaolin's open palm and she immediately began twitching.
The red and black marks on her scales began to convert back to its original white, the open cuts on her snout and tail slowly closed, and the pained expression on her face disappeared and got replaced by a relieved one instead. It didn't last long, though.
Once all her injuries were healed, Kaolin sat up and shot her eyes wide open, revealing teror-filled dark blue pupils.
"GAIA ! GAIA !" she screeched, her voice hoarse. "WHERE'S GAIA ?! WHERE AM I ?! CLANDESTINE ??!"
Clandestine didn't waste a second. She grabbed the frighten dragonet 's other talon and said as soothingly as she could, "Kaolin, I'm here.. I am Clandestine and I'm right here.. Please calm down.."
Firefly stared blankly as the two dragonets began gazing deep into each other's eyes and probably having a telepathic conversation.
Instead of pointlessly waiting for them to be done with the introductions, she started making a list of questions to ask Kaolin as soon as she's recovered from her shocked state.
1. How did you get caught up in the fire ?
2. Do you have any idea who started it ?
3. Why did you mention Gaia when you woke up ?
4. Does she have anything to do with the fire ?
5. What can you tell us about her ?
6. Is it likely that she might be an assasi-
"Guys !" Clandestine interrupted her line of thoughts.
Right, they could probably read my mind. Better stop.
"Kaolin needs mud and water."
"There's a small lake nearby," Mirage said. "We can go right now, if you'd like."
"P-please," Kaolin croaked.
~Back at Jade Mountain~
"Are you sure this is a good idea ?" Krill whispered hesitantly.
Pocha had sent both Krill and Fangsnapper to go and retrieve Sunny's dream visitor in order to contact their friend, Lychee. Why they were the ones who had to steal it Krill had no idea, but denying a command from the stern Icewing didn't seem like a very good choice. So now they found themselves creeping their way to Sunny's office, Fangsnapper in the shadows while Krill tried his best to tip-toe stealthily behind him the whole time.
"You should've asked Pocha that, not me," Fangsnapper replied.
"I don't know.. You just strike me as the type of dragon to plan everything out throughly."
"I am, but right now my job is to be the do-er, not the planner."
They slipped into an airy cave with multiple leaf windows on one wall, and paintings and tapestries of flowers and Sandwings on the others.
In the middle of the wall, across and facing the entrance, was a lovely mahogany table that complemented the red of the wall decor. The tabletop was laid on top of two storage compartments, one on each side, with black rings as handles.
Fangspapper gave a nod before rushing to check the the drawers on the left, leaving Krill to skim through the the right one.
There was barely anything on the table. Just a few painted stone carvings a miniature chest filled with tiny gems. A blank scroll was also spread on the surface, a black ink pot and a quill directly next to it. It was very neat, unlike the insides of the drawers.
The top ones had all sorts of scrolls ranging from business forms to personal letters from Sunny's mother, Queen Thorn. There were even a few from a dragon named Meerkat. Krill assumed he was a Sandwing.
The second or middle drawer was messier And then there were the third and last drawers.
"Found it !" Krill said, picking up a star-shaped gem from under a library card.
"Sshhhhh !" Fangsnapper hissed. "Be quiet, you whale breath ! Someone might hear us."
Krill immediately zipped his lips shut, certainly not wanting his mother to find out that her son was stealing things from the other Dragonets of Destiny. He might not know Tsunami that we'll, but his father, Riptide, has definitely told him and his sister that their mother had a temper.
"What do we do now ?" Krill whispered.
"I don't know," Fangsnapper replied. "How does a dream visitor even work ?"
"I'm not sure either."
"Can we only visit dreams ? That's not very useful."
"Yeah. Why don't you just transport us to Lychee whenever we want ?" Krill said to the dream visitor.
All of a sudden, Krill's talons felt cold and numb. It wasn't only his talons, though. It felt like something just ripped out a chunk of his soul and traded it for a block of ice.
The dream visitor seemed shinier aswell, it's sharp edges gleaming dangerously as if warning other dragons that grabbing it would hurt badly. However, in Krill's palm at least, it didn't.
Fangspapper noticed the change in the air and decided to speak up a little too loudly.
"What happened ?!" the scrawny Nightwing exclaimed.
"I-I.. don't know.." Krill answered, not even whispering anymore.
Talon steps could be heard from down the hallway, and they were coming their way.
"We better get out of here !"
"WAIT !"
Fangsnapper turned around close to the cave entrance, his face obviously looked annoyed.
Krill walked up to him, held his shoulder (which was kind of awkward since Krill is smaller than him) and said these words to the dream visitor :
"Bring us to Lychee.. now !"
One moment, they were in Jade Mountain, Clay's head poking into the cave they were in, and another, they were dropped flat on the... Sky ? Air ?
Surprisingly, they weren't on the ground. They were pancaked on top of some invisible platform. And far below them, was a pond with dragonets hanging around and in it.
Those dragonets were their friends. One of those friends were Lychee. Krill had told a dream visitor to teleport them to Lychee. Krill had enchanted something. Krill was an animus.
Note : I'm sorry that this chapter is not very well-written. I just finished writing it today and was to lazy to edit it.
Updates might come a little bit slower because of school stuff and the fact that I have to find time to just sit down and think about the plot.
Ugh.. school.. math.. chemistry.. physical education.. you get it
