Firefly
Note : So the first 3 (?) chapters are kinda like a prologue sort of thing.
Glory and Deathbringer arrived at a giant egg-shaped structure in what was probably record time. Without hesitation, they entered.
There, right in the middle, was a nest made out of all sorts of different leaves of different shapes, and vines with blue and white morning glories. A purplish black egg with yellow speckles near the bottom laid in the center of the nest. It was tilting to the direction of the hatchery entrance and a small crack can be seen on the top of the egg.
"Three moons," Glory gasped as she turned her head to face Deathbringer. He nodded, unable to form any words.
They walked towards the egg and sat in front of it, staring at it intently. Inside this egg is a dragonet. A living dragonet. An actual living dragonet.
"I thought it was going to hatch tomorrow," Glory said in a soft voice.
Deathbringer shook his head but stopped abruptly to shrug instead, his eyes never leaving the egg.
Glory lifted her head and glared at him, still eyeing the egg with a blank expression. "Okay, but can't you at least say something?" she half yelled.
"It's hatching !" he whispered.
The crack on the egg tripled in size in less than a second. They entwined their tails as they inched forward to get closer.
The egg wobbled, causing more cracks. A small part of the top fell off and a tiny snout poked out. The egg continue to sway and soon, most of the egg fell apart, the dragonet now free and opened to the world.
Both adult dragons gasped, eyes wide and mouths gaping.
"She's... " Glory started.
"Beautiful," Deathbringer finished for her.
"No ! Gorgeous !"
The dragonet had a Rainwing's build, long and slender, minus the spiraled tail. She was a stunning shade of dark purple with a slightly metallic tint to her scales. Her eyes were emerald green, just like Glory's, and she had a star pattern on the underside of her wings that mimicked Deathbringer's almost precisely.
He picked up his dragonet and her face changed to a delighted expression. But that wasn't all that changed. The stars under her wings, along with the ruff behind her ears, switched colors from silver to a bright banana yellow. Yellow as in excitement.
"They change colors like Rainwing scales !" Glory exclaimed.
"I never thought I'd ever meet another dragon as fascinating and intriguing as you," Deathbringer said, getting over his shock and back to his regular teasing-self. This earned him a small jab on the ribcage.
"What should we name her ?" Glory asked instead.
But before Deathbringer could come up with a flirty reply, Jambu crash landed in front of the hatchery entry, interrupting yet another moment. But no one could really complain. His rather ungraceful, but still dramatic, entrance had spooked the nearby fireflies and encouraged them to fly around in the hatchery.
It was a beautiful sight. Like tiny suns orbiting the new happy family. They , including Jambu, marvelled at their newly lit surroundings while the petite dragonet squaked with happiness.
Deathbringer switched his attention back to the dragonet in his arms and held her up lion king style.
"Firefly," he suddenly said.
"You're naming our dragonet after Jambu falling face first seconds after she was born ?" Glory raised an eyebrow.
"Why not ? Might be a funny story we could tell her when she gets married or something."
The Rainwing queen snorted. "I'll be surprised if you even let her get married."
He rolled his eyes in response. "Does that mean you agree?"
She sighed. "It's absolutely perfect." Glory herself couldn't even tell if she was being genuine or sarcastic. Maybe both.
The two of them cuddled their dragonet, the fireflies still hovering in the scene, giving the area a magical feel to it. Firefly's stars and ruff turning pink with love.
Jambu skipped to them and spread his wings so that he could envelope his family in a hug. "Aaaawww... I'm just gonna make this weird."
Note : Did anyone catch the svtfoe reference ?
