Fourteen | Truth Comes Out
That same day, the twins sat with the group of four. Peter sat in between Evie and Carlos, and Ava sat next to Mal. Everyone was picking at their food, not hungry after the event that only happened hours ago. Mal found herself gripping onto Ava's hand, and Ava and Peter kept exchanging looks. Ava was the unlucky twin to have a nasty temper, and Peter wanted to make sure that his sister wouldn't blow up. Ava kept messing with her food when she looked up to see Ben making his way over to them. "Hey, guys. How is everyone?" He asked as soon as he approached the table.
"Hey, listen, forget about it. All right? It was nothing. Forget about it. Let it go. Tomorrow, after the coronation, I promise everything will be okay." Ben then stood behind Mal and he squeezed Ava's shoulder before leaning down toward his girlfriend. "I have to go. I'll see you guys later."
Doug has been pacing around and when Ben left, he approached the table. "Listen, Evie, I want to talk about earlier today. I just - "
"Doug!"
Ava glared at Chad and Evie turned to Doug. "It's my fault, Doug. I'm sorry." "No, it's mine." Chad kept calling for Doug and Doug looked back at Chad, then to Evie. Ava noticed the heartbroken expression on Evie's face, and she frowned. Mal and Evie were like sisters to Ava, and she hated seeing them upset. Everyone was now staring at Doug, and he sighed.
"Sorry, I can't," he said before going back to Chad and the others.
Audrey was glaring at the group, then she turned to Jane and smirked. The two then began to walk toward the group. "How long does she think that's going to last?" Audrey asked and Jane laughed. "Mal's just the bad girl infatuation." Jane agreed and she smirked.
"I mean he's never going to make a villain a queen." Jane then winked at Carlos and Ava felt her blood boil. Audrey then turned to Ava and she gave Ava a wicked smirk.
"I knew you were bad luck as soon as you got here. Your only friend is Ben, and you hang out with villains. Maybe they should send you to the Isle. Why don't you run off and cry to your mommy? Oh, right. She's dead."
Everyone gasped while Jane laughed.
Ava felt tears in her eyes, so she got up and ran. Peter excused himself before he ran off after his sister. The group of four were now angry. They didn't care that Audrey was insulting them, but as soon as they brought Ava into it, that's when they cared. Especially if they mentioned her dead parents. Audrey and Jane laughed and they walked away.
Mal opened up her spellbook and searched for a spell to use on Jane. "Beware forswear undo Jane's hair."
There was a scream and they all looked over to see Jane with her old hair. Mal stood up and she smirked at the group in front of her. "There's a lot more where that came from. You can insult us all you want, but never drag Ava into it. Or her parents."
Audrey scoffed and walked forward. "Excuse me, who do you think you are?"
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" Mal asked before she began to flip through her book. The group screamed and they all ran away. With a satisfied look, she turned to her friends. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. Let's grab that wand and blow this popsicle stand." The four smirked at one another and they walked away.
"Hey," Carlos spoke up, stopping them. "Should we go visit Ava?" They all looked at one another and Mal nodded.
At Ava's house, Ava punched a punching bag with no gloves on. Peter watched his sister in sadness. He noticed that her punches became more aggressive until they became weak and sloppy. That's when he heard her crying. Peter frowned before enveloping his sister into a hug, Ava not fighting him.
Peter ran his hand through her hair and he tried his best to stop himself from crying. He needs to be strong for Ava. The two then walked inside, Peter guiding Ava to the couch. They sat next to one another and Ava continued to sob into Peter's shirt.
"Ms. Parker, Mal and the others are at the front door. Shall I let them in?"
Ava nodded and Peter sighed.
"Let them in, please."
"Of course, Mr. Parker."
They heard the front door open and the group cautiously walked in. "A?" Mal called out and they walked into the living room and took in the scene in front of them. They noticed how bloody Ava's hands were, how red her eyes were, and the tears streaming down her face like a waterfall. As they saw how broken Ava was, their hearts broke. They've never seen Ava like this. Sure, they would see her sad, but it wasn't as bad as this. "Oh, Ava," Evie cooed as she stepped forward. She sat down next to Ava and Peter handed Ava over to Evie.
"I'm going to get some bandages for her," he told her, and Evie nodded.
Mal sat where Peter was previously sitting, and the boys pulled up some chairs to sit in front of the girl, leaving a chair in between them for Peter. Carlos felt his heart sink and his blood boil. They all did. They were upset seeing Ava like this, and they were angry at Audrey for getting Ava to this point.
Mal and Evie were hugging Ava, and Ava was trying to get herself to calm down. Finally, she stopped crying, but she felt numb. Peter came back and he sat in between the boys and opened up a first aid kit. He looked at the alcohol wipes and then at his sister.
"This is going to sting."
Ava nodded and she prepared herself. As soon as the wipes made contact with her hands, Ava hissed and she bit her lip to stop herself from cursing. Carlos reached over and he gripped onto her wrist while the girls were gripping onto her upper arms. Jay then held onto her other wrist and they all whispered soothing words while Peter worked fast.
Ava bit down on her lip so hard, she tasted the metallic taste of blood. Finally, after a minute, Peter was now wrapping her wrists and Ava sighed in relief. It was quiet between the six of them, and Ava decided that now would be a good time to tell Peter.
"Peter?"
"Yeah?"
"Um. . ." Ava looked into his eyes and she let out a shakey breath. "They know that I'm Spiderwoman and that you're Spiderman."
Peter looked at them, and he forced out a laugh. "Okay, I think we should st - stop with the pranks."
"Peter."
Peter locked eyes with Ava and he sighed. "Are you serious?"
"They were bound to figure it out. And Mal isn't exactly human, she has powers." Peter rose an eyebrow and Ava scoffed. "You're surprised? Seriously? She's the daughter of Maleficent." "Okay, that does make sense," Peter whispered and blushed, causing everyone to laugh.
The door suddenly burst open and everyone jumped.
"Ava! I came as soon as I heard!"
They all turned to Ben and the group let the prince make his way over to Ava. Ben frowned when he saw the bandages on her knuckles, her red eyes, and her tear stained face. Peter noticed that Ben wanted to talk to Ava, so he grabbed Ava's attention. "Um, we're gonna go down to the lab, and we're gonna talk about - "
"How we can convince your aunt to get a puppy," Carlos quickly intervened and the twins knew the secret meaning behind it. Ava nodded and she hugged them all before they left, leaving her with Ben. "I forgot, you had O.R.I.O.N. make it so you can come in whenever you please."
Ben chuckled before he frowned.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm better now."
Ben nodded and he breathed in. "Mal gave me a love spell." Ava had completely forgot about that. "It washed away on our first date because of the Enchanted Lake, but I uh, I- "
"But you still love Mal?"
Ben nodded and Ava smiled.
"That right there is true love."
Ben smiled and pulled the small girl into a hug.
