Eight | Dude
Once Ava got home, O.R.I.O.N. greeted her and Ava greeted the a.i. back. She hadn't practiced in a while, so she decided that she should practice. After the fight that went down in Germany, Ava kept in touch with both sides and Clint had taught her how to use a bow and arrow while Natasha taught the girl how to properly fight. Ava headed to her backyard and there was a garage there that had things for training. She put on some gloves and began to punch a punching bag while music played. As she punched, she kept getting flashbacks of the fight. She remembered how Dr. Strange stood her up and quickly informed them what happened.
She remembered embracing Peter first, then the guardians. She remembered swinging with Peter through a portal and they landed together and they saw Thanos' army. She remembered the fear she felt in that moment, but had to hide it. She remembered Tony hugging them. She remembered his last words to her.
She remembered nearly getting blown up if it wasn't for Bucky.
She remembered Tony dieing in front of her. She remembered everyone kneeling for the most strongest Avenger. She didn't realized that she had tears in her eyes until she punched the bag and it flew off the hook and hit the wall. She quickly wiped away her tears and set up a new bag before starting all over again. This time, she kept her emotions in check.
After a while, Ava took a water break, but jumped when she heard screaming.
Her Iron Spider suit immediately covered her body and Ava looked around. "C.L.A.I.R.E., where is that coming from?"
"In the woods near the tourney field."
Ava immediately shot a web at a tree and she began swinging toward the woods. She eventually landed and she found Ben with Dude and Carlos was clinging onto a tree. "What's the problem?" Ava asked in a slightly deeper voice so Carlos wouldn't recognize her. Said boy nearly fell when Ava arrived, but quickly grasped onto the tree again.
"Spiderwoman! Um, everything's fine," said Ben.
Ava rose an eyebrow.
"I heard screaming."
"That was me! That vicious, rabid pack animal is going to rip my throat out!" Carlos exclaimed and Ava had to hold back from laughing. "This dog?" Ava asked and pointed to Dude, and Carlos nodded. "Who told you that?" Ava asked.
"My mother."
"Cruella?" Ben asked.
"She's a dog expert. A dog yellerer." Ava thought that Carlos would be crazy about dogs, like his mom, not be terrified of them. Ava and Ben looked at one another and Ava sighed. Ava then picked Dude up and Carlos began to panic. "Why are you holding him? He's going to attack you!" "Carlos, you've never actually met a dog, have you?" Ben asked.
"Of course not."
"Carlos, is it?" Carlos nodded. "Dude, meet Carlos. Carlos, this is Dude. He's the campus mutt." Carlos looked at the dog that layed in the unknown girl's arms and he lightly smiled.
"He doesn't look like a vicious, rabid pack animal," Carlos admitted as he slowly got back onto the ground. "Trust me, he's not," Ava reassured him. "Geez. You're a good boy, aren't you?" Ava noticed Carlos hesitating, so she placed the dog into Carlos' arms, who gladly took hold of Dude. Upon seeing this, both Ben and Ava smiled at their interaction.
"You guys must have it pretty rough on the island, huh?" Ben asked and Ava frowned when she realized it too.
"Yeah. Let's just say we don't get mant belly rubs."
Ben then put his hand on Carlos' shoulder. "Good boy." Ava facepalmed and Ben realized what he said. "Uh, you're a - you're a good runner. You're - you're fast."
"Oh, thank you."
"Listen, I'm going to give you guys some space, yeah? You guys get to know each other and just. . . Come find me when you're done," Ben told Carlos before turning to Ava. "Uh, Spiderwoman?" Ava made to follow him when she felt a hand grasp onto her wrist. She turned around and noticed Carlos was blushing and he quickly let go of her wrist.
"Uh, I just wanted to say thank you, for trying to save me."
"Your welcome. It's my job after all. I'll see you around, Carlos." Ava winked at him and she followed Ben. The two then walked away, but didn't go back to the tourney field.
"So, how did you hear him?" Ben asked as he leaned against a tree. "I was in my backyard practicing when I heard screaming, and I jumped into action. C.L.A.I.R.E. told me that it was coming from here and I don't think I've ever swung that fast in my life." The two laughed and Ben smiled at her. Ava smiled back, but Ben didn't notice because she still has her mask on. "So, what do you think of them so far?" Ava thought about telling when she overheard Mal say in the bathroom, but decided against it. Ben really wants to prove that the four aren't so different from them. Ava sighed and looked at the direction that they came from.
"Well, let's just say, I've seen worse villains. With some help, I think that they can actually be good and have a good life here in Auradon. I'm proud of you, Ben." Ben thanked her and was about to say more when a voice interrupted them.
"Incoming call from Peter Parker."
"Well, duty calls. See you around, Ben." Ava saluted Ben before answering the call and she swung away, leaving the prince to his thoughts.

That night, Ava couldn't sleep once again. She knew that she was tired, she felt it, but every time she tried to sleep, she would either see Tony's face or actually fall asleep, but then later wake up screaming because of a nightmare. Not wanting to lay in bed all night, Ava stood up and she made her way to the kitchen where she began to make some coffee. As she waited for her coffee to brew, she remembered a conversation that she, Tony, and Peter had years ago. The conversation six months after the fight in Germany. The conversation they had when the two messed up.
"We just wanted to be like you," Peter told the man. Tony stared down at the two and he knew what he had to do.
"And I wanted you to be better."
She knew that Tony had dealt with anxiety, panic attacks, and sleeping disorders. And Ava knew that she will be exactly like Tony. Scratches filled the air, making Ava jump, and she heard a voice outside. "No, Dude. Ava is asleep. We'll come back in the morning."
Ava jogged over to her front door and quickly opened it to see Carlos with Dude in his hands. "Carlos?"
"Ava! I'm sorry if I woke you up."
"No, you didn't wake me. . . I couldn't sleep. What are you doing here?"
"Um, well, Dude wanted to go for a walk, and I went with him. Then he made his way over here." Ava nodded and she noticed Carlos staring at her. She rose an eyebrow, but then blushed when she realized that all she was wearing was one of Peter's shirts, which came up to mid thigh.
"Oh my God. I'm going to put on some shorts. If you want, come on in." With that, Ava raced back to her room, all while trying to tug the shirt down. Carlos chuckled as he saw Ava run off and he entered the house, closing the door behind him. He sat Dude down and watched as the dog ran over to the living room where a bowl of water and a bowl of dog food were waiting for him.
"Did you finally get a dog?" Carlos asked when Ava walked back in with shorts on.
"Hm? Oh, no. I usually have Dude over to keep me company, so I always have some food and water for him." Carlos nodded and Ava grabbed her cup of coffee. She offered a drink or some snacks, but Carlos declined and the two sat down on the couch. "Why are you up so late?" Carlos asked after a while of silence. "I can't sleep. Something happened back home, and, well, it's traumatized me in a way. Whenever I do manage to fall asleep, I wake up screaming." Carlos felt his heart sink and Ava frowned. He then reached over and held onto her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. Ava smiled at him and gently squeezed his hand back.
