twelve
The next day and a half passed without trouble, and the incident at the skating rink was all but forgotten. Chris gave you the lecture of your life when he found out, but after promising you wouldn't go out somewhere that public for the next few days and that no one knew where you were staying he calmed down somewhat. For the most part, everything was good.
Well other than what you felt every time Sans got too close to you. Now that you were aware of the odd feelings, you noticed them more and more. You found that your eyes seemed to want to follow Sans no matter where the two of you were in a room. Whenever he was close, you couldn't help but feel a bit flushed and happy, and when he moved away you wanted to follow. You liked making him laugh, which wasn't new, but now that you were more aware of him you couldn't help but try to go out of your way to see what different expressions you could coax out of him.
Jeez, what was wrong with you? It was like when you weren't really aware of the feelings they weren't noticeable at all, but now that you knew the emotions were hitting you like a freight train everyday.
After the first day of weirdness, you decided to just play if off as considering him one of your best friends. Yes, you didn't feel the same about the others you considered your best friends, but what else could it be? As part of this, you also tried to ignore your weird feelings and to do this you tried to keep busy. It wasn't hard, considering there was lots to do, but you still found it a little easier said than done. Even as you were busy playing games or decorating gingerbread houses or just watching a movie, you were still drawn to Sans.
It was getting annoying.
Anyway, currently you were outside, zoning out as you, Papyrus and Frisk built a snow-Papyrus. Frisk had decided that the yard— which had gotten a fresh couple inches of snow overnight- needed decorating. So, pretty much everyone bundled up, minus Asgore, Toriel, and Flowey, and headed outside into the cold. While the three of you built your snow-Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton and Alphys worked on a snow-Undyne. It seemed the six of you were having an unspoken contest as to who could make their sculpture the most muscular. As you worked, you made sure to get lots of great pictures. But, eventually you finished building each respective snowman, and were looking for something else to do. It was decided that, both snowmen were equally strong as both their arms fell off. You started absent mindedly packing snow together as Frisk tried to bury Papyrus in the snow, and once you had a fairly decent snowball, came up with an idea.
"Hey Frisk." You whispered, beckoning the girl over. She stopped shoveling snow onto Papyrus and trotted over. Papyrus stood up and came over as well, brushing the snow off his bright orange sweater and red scarf. "Think we should get Sans?" You grinned, glancing over at the snoozing skeleton while tossing the snowball in your hand for emphasis. He had finally conceded to come outside after about an hour straight of pestering, but promptly lay down on the decks steps and fell asleep. How he managed to do that in this cold was beyond you.
"WON'T HE BE MAD?" Papyrus whisper yelled, trying to be quiet but sort of unable to.
"Probably." You smiled, egged on by that devil on your shoulder. "But it'll be more fun if he actually does something."
Papyrus furrowed his eyebrows still unsure. In this time Undyne, Alphys and Mettaton came over. "What are you guys whispering about?" Undyne asked, nudging Papyrus to the side to open your little circle further.
"We want to prank Sans." Frisk signed excitedly.
"H-he'll get mad." Alphys warned nervously, glancing at the snoozing skeleton.
"But that's half the fun!" Mettaton giggled. "Count me in, darlings."
"Heck yeah. I'm in too." Undyne grinned, slamming her fist into her palm.
"I SUPPOSE IT WOULD BE A LITTLE FUNNY. BUT ONLY A LITTLE." Papyrus conceded.
"I-I don't know." Alphys twisted her hands together.
"Then you go sit over there." Undyne nudged her towards the bench nearby. That way Sans wouldn't lot her in with the rest of us pranksters. She nodded once and adjusted her glasses, then went to sit on the bench after dusting it off. "Alright let's do this." Undyne urged confidently once Alphys was safely out of the way. The five of you went to work setting up your plan. At first, it really only consisted of pelting him with snowballs, but then it evolved from there further. Knowing Sans would sleep until someone got him up or you were really loud, you had plenty of time to prepare. Eventually the five of you started building a fort, on Mettaton's advisement, as a fight with Sans could get pretty messy, apparently. Pretty quickly you'd developed a pretty sizable fort with only one entrance as a large pile of snowballs within. That's when you noticed the huge mound of snow hanging a little precariously on the roof above Sans. A wicked grin stole over your face as you pointed out the clump to the others. Now you had a really good idea.
Not ten minutes later, everything was set up. You sat on the roof in waiting with a huge pile of snow in front of you, as you were one of the lightest and least likely to cause it any damage. Frisk would have come up instead, but she said she'd rather be on the ground with the snowballs. She stood the closest to Sans, as she would be the one to wake him up, with Papyrus standing nearby and Undyne strategically placed close to the deck. Mettaton prefered the safety of the fort, and waited there with the excess snowballs. You gave Undyne the thumbs up, and she passed the signal off to Frisk and Papyrus.
"SANS WAKE UP!" Papyrus cried loudly, and you knew that Frisk would be shaking the skeleton awake at the same time. You peeked over the roof, and saw Papyrus back up a few steps, glancing between his friends and you for affirmation.
"hmmmm?" Sans complained, waking up only a little. There was a pause, and you knew Frisk was explaining to Sans that I had wandered away and gone "missing." "what do ya mean she's missing?" Sans asked, sounding more alert and a bit concerned.
"JUST THAT! WE CAN'T SEEM TO FIND HER." Papyrus lied, voice trembling a little nervously and glancing up at you. You knew the idea of lying to his brother upset him a little, so you gave him a thumbs up to let him know he was doing a-okay. As long as Sans didn't read too much into his nervous and jerky movements.
"well did you look inside?" Sans asked, and you could hear shuffling on the deck below. Frisk's job now would be to line him up under the roof so you could dump the large amount of snow on him. You suppressed a giggle, knowing this would be ridiculously funny. At least, you hoped it would be. "okay okay, i'm coming." Now he sounded more than a little concerned. You flexed your fingers expectantly, waiting for the signal.
"NOW!" Undyne cried from her hiding spot. You jumped into motion, heaving the pile of snow off the roof and hopefully onto the unsuspecting monster below. Sans cried out as the snow plopped on top of him, letting you know it had worked. You smiled widely, leaning over the edge of the roof and preparing your camera. Sans was half buried in a pile of snow, head and legs sticking out comedically. He must have turned before the snow fell, because he was currently facing up, glaring at you. You snapped a picture and grinned wider.
"Looks like you're a little snowed in down there." You snickered as both Undyne and Papyrus burst out laughing.
"FUFUFU that was perfect!" Undyne roared with laughter, nearly falling into the snow herself.
"I ADMIT, THAT WAS PRETTY GREAT!" Papyrus agreed. Sans gave them all a withering look before looking back up at you.
"i'm guessing this was your idea?" He asked coldly, eyes narrow.
"Maybe," You smiled, smiling down slyly. "Why do you ask?"
"because then i know who to dunk on first!" He exclaimed, pulling an arm from the snow and holding his palm out to you. His eye flashed blue, and you felt yourself lift off the roof. You squealed and flailed about as you were lowered to the ground. When you were three feet above the snow bank, Sans let you go, and you ended up diving face first into the snow beside him. You squealed again as the frozen ice worked its way into your jacket, and you immediately struggled to free yourself. Thankfully you predicted the end result and tossed your camera to Frisk, who was standing nearby."i think you need some time to cool off." Sans teased, glare lifting.
"Not cool!" You shivered, shaking some of the snow out of your hair. You then grinned and turned towards Undyne."Get him!"
You rolled out of the way, and Undyne leapt from her spot and started throwing. She hit Sans twice in the head before he realized what was happening, the three more times as he freed himself from the snow. He made a grab for you as you scampered away, probably intending to use you as a shield, but Papyrus scooped you up and darted to the fort.
And thus, a snowball fight of epic proportions ensued.
You'd think it'd be an easy win right? Five of you versus one of him. But nope. You were pretty much getting your butts kicked. While you had Undyne's throwing power and Mettaton's speedy snowball making skills on our side, Sans had magic. He hardly had to lift a finger to send an armada of snowballs flying at you. He even sent our own ammo back towards your fort. You still managed to get a few good hits though, and you'd probably have bruises to show for it. He hit hard. You soon realized that you wouldn't be winning this by playing fair. You needed to catch him by surprise, then launch an all out attack. It was time to play dirty, which you had no issues with since he was cheating with magic.
"Okay Frisk, here's the plan." You whispered to her, taking shelter behind the fort's wall as snowballs whizzed by overhead. "I'll distract Sans, and you sneak up behind him, got it?" She nodded eagerly, prepared to execute the plan to the best of her abilities. "Think you guys can help?"
"Course, darling." Mettaton smiled, continuing to provide an unending supply of ammo.
"Go for it!" Undyne yelled from where she was. She was the only one who remained outside of the fort, darting back and forth across the yard as she attempted to pelt Sans. She heard you talking about the play when she came back for more ammo.
"Alright, go!" You whispered urgently, grabbing a collection of snowballs and darting out of cover. You whipped a snowball at Sans' head, but he moved and the snow splattered on his shoulder. He gave you a look that said "oh no you didn't" and launched a snowy attack on you. You squeaked and darted to the side, trying desperately not to get hit. One of the snowballs smacked into your butt though as you darted behind a tree, and you could hear Sans chuckle as his snowy attack shook the tree and dumped more snow on your head. You peeked your head around the branches and threw a few well timed snowballs, trying to keep him distracted as Frisk snuck around behind him. He wasn't even looking as he also attacked the others. The only one he wasn't paying attention to was Frisk. Soon enough she jumped out from hiding and tackled Sans from behind, bringing him down into the snow. He grunted, and you quickly ran out from hiding and joined into a doggy pile. Papyrus and Mettaton soon flopped on top of you as well, creating a rather crushing dog pile. Undyne was the only one who didn't join us. Instead she gathered a huge ball of snow and carried it over to us.
"Give up Sans!" She taunted, holding the snow at the ready.
"never," he grunted from below our combined weights.
"You asked for it then!" Undyne then dropped the heavy but lightly packed snowball on top of us, smothering both Sans and the rest of us in another pile of snow. Instead of rolling off, the ball broke apart into a poof of snow, and you screeched when it landed on your hands and neck. Undyne then threw herself on top of all of you, squishing you further and pushing you into Sans and Frisk. Even though you could breath you started laughing, gasping and sputtering along with everyone else.
"seems you all have a pretty big crush on me huh?" Sans wheezed from below, causing you to laugh more. But then you couldn't help but blush when you realized what he said. You knew it was a pun, but you couldn't help it. He caught you eye and waggled his eyebrows, causing you to blush brighter. If anyone asked, you were cold, and you did not have a crush on him.
"NYEH HEH HEH! SURRENDER BROTHER!" Papyrus laughed, not seeming to hear Sans' pun and reaching his hand back to bat at Sans' head.
"okay okay! i give up." Sans conceded, chuckling and smacking his brother's hand away.
"YES!" Undyne cheered, heaving herself off the pile and pulling up Mettaton and Papyrus. "You never stood a chance!"
"snow way. i could have won. i just got cold feet." Sans replied, waiting as you rolled off of him and helped Frisk up. From there he grinned and shook the snow from his jacket. "ice plan though, kitten."
"OH GOD WHAT HAVE WE DONE!" Papyrus groaned, realizing that with Sans awake he was now able to make puns that were blissfully missing from before. Well, in his opinion. You, quite frankly, had been missing those puns.
You smiled at Sans and shivered, realizing how soaked through your clothes were now. "As fun as that was I'm freezing," you said, rubbing your arms and watching as Frisk did the same. "How about we go inside and get some hot chocolate to warm up?"
"I-I like that idea." Alphys agreed, shuffling through the snow towards Undyne. As she did she passed you your camera, which Frisk had given to her for safekeeping, and you noticed that there were a few more undeveloped pictures you hadn't taken with it. Sweet, she got some pictures of the fight, you thought.
"You could have gone inside if you were cold." Undyne huffed, taking Alphys' hands and puffing on them. You couldn't help but think of how cute they were. With Mettaton leading the way the seven of you headed back inside, and as soon as you entered Toriel was there to greet you.
"Welcome back! Oh my, it looks like you had fun. Why don't I grab you all some towels?"
"That would be great, thanks." You smiled, pulling off your boots and attempting not to drip all over the floor. Not that there was a reason. There were too many people in the foyer to not get the floor wet. But at least you were trying, right? Everyone went through the process of removing their soaked and partially frozen outerwear, while Toriel came back and handed everyone a thick, fluffy towel.
"Don't know about you losers, but I'm going to take a bath." Undyne said, rubbing the towel roughly over her hair in an attempt to warm some of the icicles that were freezing in it out. She stalked off, and you sighed. You'd been wanting a bath too. And some hot chocolate.
"I call next." You said, shucking off your soaked socks and snuggling into the towel as best you could. Frisk quickly jumped up and down, saying she wanted third. There was only one guest bathroom with a full bath, unfortunately.
Toriel giggled lightly, then suggested, "Why don't the two of you use the master bedroom?"
You grinned at her. "That would be awesome. Come one Frisk, I can wash your hair."
"M-Mettaton we should probably make sure nothing was damaged with water." Alphys said as the two of you headed off. You heard him agree, and they followed you upstairs. You started following Frisk to the master bedroom, while they went off into one of the guest rooms. You were pleasantly surprised to find that the master bath was huge, definitely big enough for you and Frisk, and that it even came with jets. You filled up the tub with nearly boiling water, before stripping down and sliding in. Frisk sat across from you after eagerly adding in some scented bubbles. You were a bit apprehensive about bathing with someone else, but you figured because it was Frisk it was fine. She was still a kid afterall.
After a long, forty-five minute bath, the two of you finally got out of the cooling water, got dressed and headed downstairs for some hot chocolate. Toriel had already thought ahead and had enough hot chocolate and tea for everyone who wanted some, so once you had a warm mug in your hands you headed to the couch where Sans was already seated, promptly shoved his feet off, and sat down. He put his legs on your lap a moment later.
"Really?" You asked, blowing on your drink and lifting your eyebrows at him.
He shrugged and grinned at you. "hey, you sat down."
You rolled your eyes and sipped at your hot chocolate. It was just below scalding, so you started blowing on it again. You didn't know who chose the movie, but the Grinch Who Stole Christmas was playing on TV, so you settled in and enjoyed it as everyone else gathered in the room. You suspected it was Papyrus, as he was also already in the room with Asgore. Pretty soon, everyone was in the room and watching movie, Mettaton being the last to join you. Your hot chocolate had finally cooled down enough to drink, and you sipped at it the entire movie. About half way through the drink Sans stole the mug, and started enjoying it himself. "Ew, germs." You whispered, stealing the drink and managing to blush only a little. Indirect kiss, your mind decided to tell you, and you mentally waved it away. Yeah right, you shared drinks with friends all the time in a totally platonic way. As the movie progress the two of your continued to steal the drink from and back from each other, and after a while you began to notice looks from Toriel, Undyne, and Mettaton. Knowing looks. Having enough of that when the drink was back in your hands you finished it off and put the mug down, effectively ending the situation.
And that's how you spent the rest of the afternoon, sitting on the couch watching old christmas movies until there were none left to watch. After dinner, part way through Home Alone 2, Undyne brought out the eggnog. The very alcoholic eggnog. Which led to everyone but Frisk and Flowey getting drunk in various levels. You were among the least drunk, along with, Toriel, and Asgore. You were more tipsy than anything. Papyrus, Alphys and Sans were half way between tipsy and drunk, while Undyne and Mettaton probably needed their drinks taken away. It was actually hard to tell how drunk Sans' was, but that was your best estimate based on how almost, flirty, he was being. He was being absolutely adorable, and continued to steal your drink when he finished his, kept making terrible jokes and making you laugh, and sticking close to your side if you moved. Every time you got up and sat down again he found a way to sit beside you again. Because of this, you'd been feeling fluttery and happy for the last hour or two, and not just from the alcohol.
But, it was getting late now, and you knew you should be heading for bed. But on the other hand, you were still having a blast just sitting around and talking, and you didn't want to disturb Sans, who currently had his legs flung over your lap like usual. You decided in the end you wanted to keep talking and having fun, and Frisk, who you'd take with you, didn't seem to want to go to bed yet either...
If only you decided to go to turn in right then and there though.
Author's note~
Aren't cliff hangers fun? ;)
I know you lovelies will be begging for more (at least I hope so) but you'll just have to wait! School is crazy right now, as I have soooo many final projects due over the next three weeks, and finals to study for (art schools woes, am I right?). As such, I might be late on the next update, or I'll just make a shorter chapter. We'll see!
As always, thank you so much for commenting and voting. You don't know how happy it makes me to see my notifications going crazy because of all the love you guys are giving the story! I adore you guys, and never thought my story would hit over 5K views! *internal squealing* Thank you so much!
And with that, please continue to comment, vote and theorize! I like to see what you guys think! (Even when you're hating on Mitchell. I don't disagree though, I made him to be a jerk ;D Don't you worry your little heads though, I can tell you know I have plans in store for him!)
