The ride home was basically unbearable. As soon as you shut the car door Mitchell had gone off on another one of his famous rants on why I shouldn't consider monsters friends and why I shouldn't even be even be performing with one and if he had his way you wouldn't be meeting any monsters at all and blah blah blah. You'd heard this all before and it annoyed you to no end. What does he know? You couldn't help but think as he ranted. All the monsters you'd met up until now were perfectly nice!
"It's basically impossible to avoid monsters now." You snapped, completely fed up. You knew better than to engage with him when he went off like this, but you couldn't help yourself. "They're not stuck underground anymore."
"But you don't have to interact with them." Mitchell bristled.
"Yes I do! I can't just ignore my fans!"
"You can get more fans. More human fans."
"It's not that simple." You cried in exasperation.
"Yes it is." He huffed. You threw your hands up and refused to engage anymore. Luckily you were driving down the ramp into the underground parking lot of your apartment building. You practically jumped out of the car while it was still moving, slamming the car door shut behind you. Mitchell climbed out a second later.
"You can't avoid this forever." He called behind you as you dashed to the elevator.
"Yeah? Well I can avoid you!" You yelled as you reached the elevator. Luckily he had parked a ways a way, and the elevator let you in almost immediately. You swiped your keycard, and waggled your fingers as the door closed, sealing him out. When the elevator hit the top floor you darted to your apartment and went inside, immediately b-lining it to your room.
You basically kicked the door to your shared room open before slamming it shut behind you and locking it. Just for good measure you shoved your desk chair under the doorknob. A few minutes later Mitchell started banging on the door loudly, having made it into the suite.
"(y/n) unlock the door!" He yelled, rattling the doorknob. You didn't answer, just stuck your tongue out and sat with a huff onto your bed. After a few more pointless attempts he finally left you alone.
Jerk. You thought bitterly as you fell back onto the abundance of colourful pillows behind you. You'd let him in a bit later. I'll never give up singing, and I know not all monsters are bad. Why can't Mitchell see that? With those thoughts in mind you fell into a light nap.
You were woken about an hour later by a soft knocking on your door. You groaned and rolled over, still not wanting to deal with Mitchell. After a few minutes of silence you heard something rasp under the door and retreating footsteps. Scrunching up your nose you rolled over and saw it was almost 6pm. You'd been asleep for at least an hour. With another groan you heaved yourself up and went to investigate the door. A small note had been slipped through the crack, and you scanned it quickly.
'Sorry about before. I'm going out to meet some people. I'll be back around midnight. Stay inside and stay out of trouble. M'
Stay inside and stay out of trouble. You huffed internally. What does he think I'm going to do? Throw a spontaneous backyard party? And why does he get to go out with his friends whenever he wants! It's not fair, he doesn't control me!
That got you thinking. You felt the sudden urge to break the rules. Why should Mitchell be able to dictate what you do? You were nineteen going on twenty, you could make your own rules. You stood up and stomped over to your closet, wondering what on earth you were going to wear to wherever you were going. Okay, so you didn't really have a plan or destination, but you wanted to get out of the house regardless.
Just then your phone chirped. You dug into your hastily discarded purse and pulled out your phone. It was another message from Mettaton. This one had a picture as well, and showed him making a duck face and peace sign. The background was of a tall skeleton clad in red and a blue fish looking lady singing into microphones. On the TV screen behind them you could make out lyrics to one of your first singles. 'Karaoke time! Bet we could out sing any of these noobs.'
A small smile tugged at your lips. At least Mettaton tried to keep you in the party loop even if you weren't there. An idea popped into your head then. Without giving yourself time to reconsider you hastily pressed call, and soon you were waiting for Mettaton to pick up.
"Mettaton here." His voice basically purred through the speaker. You almost had to hold the phone away from your ear it was so noisy over there. You could hear distinct voices yelling at each other as another person belted lyrics along to a song. There was also some pretty loud laughing and someone telling someone else to shut up.
"Hey Met, it's (y/n)." You replied, darting back to your closet.
"(y/n)! Darling! To what do I owe the pleasure? Jealous of the fun I'm having?"
"Super jealous." You nodded, throwing possible outfits onto your bed. "I was wondering, is your invitation still open?"
Mettaton let out an audible gasp, then a little more muffled told the crowd to quiet down as he was taking an important call. Someone must have made a joke or something because someone laughed and someone else told them to shut up. A moment later the sounds died down a bit and Mettaton was back. "Of course darling! You're always welcome here. Did your 'fiance' finally give in?"
"Not exactly." You mumbled. "But what he doesn't know won't kill him."
Mettaton let out a metallic laugh. "I see you're dipping into your bad side. Very naughty! But you're welcome either way."
"Awesome." You grinned, a nervous pack of butterflies bursting to life in your stomach. Were you really going through with this? Heck yeah. The devil on your left shoulder cheered. "Can you send me the address?"
"Nonsense! I'll send someone over to pick you up."
"Thanks for the offer but it's probably better if I walk. Not everyone in my neighbourhood is as accepting of monsters. Besides, it'll be easier to sneak around on my own."
"Are you sure? It'd really be no problem for..."
"I'm sure." You interrupt. Mettaton makes a hmmm noise into the phone and you hear someone yelling at Mettaton, asking who he was talking too. "Anything in particular I should wear?" You asked, looking over about five outfits.
"Nope! It's fairly casual over here."
"Alright awesome. So where am I going?"
Mettaton prattled off the address and some directions while you quickly scratched it down. Apparently you would be heading to the Underground. Luckily your house wasn't too far away from Mt. Ebott- just one short bus ride and a small hike. You figured it would take about an hour to get there. Mettaton told you to dress in layers, as Underground weather was a little strange before hanging up and rejoining the party.
After slipping the address into your purse you turned back to your bed and chose your outfit. You selected a pair of dark skinny jeans, tight black tank top and a loose (f/c) wool sweater to go over top. To spice it up you also selected a nice (2nd f/c) scarf and brown cap that you could tuck your hair into. Hopefully there weren't any paparazzi camping outside the door. Usually they didn't bother you, but you could never be too careful. Though they knew where you lived they didn't know what apartment and weren't allowed into the building.
Ready to go you unlocked the door and double checked to make sure Mitchell was gone. You needed to make sure you were back before midnight, but that still gave you at least a few hours at the party.
Heading out of the apartment and making sure to lock the door behind you, you headed out into the night, nervous about the events to come.
A/N: I know it's a short chapter... sorry.... Don't worry though! Next chapter will finally have monsters other then Mettaton!
