Everyone quickly started working together in order to set up a small stage area, and as they did you pulled out your white polaroid camera to snap some pictures. Papyrus got to work setting up the game with Frisk's help, plugging in the microphones and plugging in the karaoke machine. It was small, and only came up to the middle of your thighs, but had a screen that clearly displayed the words of the song and connected easily to the speakers the skeleton brothers owned. It also came with two wireless microphones, and two microphone stands. Undyne and Mettaton pushed the couch back as far as it could go, Sans lazily sprawled across the top. He was the only one who wasn't doing anything. You and Toriel went to work trying to set up a bit of dramatic lighting. You pulled over a few lamps from around the house, plugging them in right next to the TV. Then, all the other lights in the house were turned off so the only light came from behind. You also stuck two desk lamps (provided from the brothers rooms) beside the couch to provide some frontal light. While you went about this, Alphys set up one of the computers in the house with some sort of special program that would accurately judge the singers abilities. Once everything was done, you looked around the room and thought the makeshift stage looked pretty good.

With everything set up, each team drew straws to see who went first. You held the straws, while Frisk, Papyrus, Mettaton and Undyne picked them. Frisk ended up getting the shortest straw, followed by Undyne, Mettaton and finally Papyrus. You gathered onto the couch and floor around it, once again shoving Sans's feet away so you could sit down. Instead of sitting up though he just moved his legs long enough for you to sit down before laying his legs over your knees. You tried to shove them off, but he just put them back. He got his just deserts though when Papyrus sat down beside me and Frisk decided that the most comfortable spot would be on Sans' non-existent stomach. Though it was a little uncomfortable to have his bony legs across yours, you were happy he felt comfortable enough to do so. Already you felt so accepted by this circle of friends, and you were elated by the thought.

Your fiance was crazy. Monsters were awesome!

Toriel sat in the same chair as before, while Undyne and Alphys took up spots on the floor between the couch and chair. Mettaton picked up one of the microphones and grinned. "Hello everyone!" He said, posing dramatically as he often did before performances. "We have a great performance set up for you tonight!" We all started clapping and cheering. "First up, Frisk and Toriel~!" We clapped enthusiastically as Toriel stood and Frisk hopped off Sans' stomach.

Their song started, selected at random via blindfold in advance, and Toriel started singing. She had a surprisingly soothing voice. She got really into it by the second verse, and though Frisk didn't sing any words she did hum along softly with the song. It was quite adorable. Toriel and Frisk's performance was a little different from how the rest of ours would go. Alphys set up the program to evaluate each singer individually, but then also together as a pair. Because Frisk didn't sing, their evaluation was based mostly on Toriel's voice as well as Frisk's ability to match pitch while humming. They finished up their two songs happily, a slow love song and (surprisingly) "Rising Up" by none other than yourself. Toriel actually sang the song really well. They then bowed as we cheered and took their seats. The computer let off a little pinging noise, letting us know it had judged them, and Alphys quickly recalibrated the system for the rest of us.

Then Undyne and Alphys took the stage. They got one rock duet, which Undyne really got into. Alphys was quite nervous, but together the two didn't sound so bad. Undyne had a low voice, so she was able to hit notes way lower on the scale then you could. Alphys was more of an alto, so she stuck to the higher registers. The second song they got was some sort of theme to an anime you hadn't heard of before. You were informed by Mettaton that it was called Mew Mew Kissy Cutie, and was Alphys favourite anime. Lucky for her. When the song came on she got really into singing and finally seemed to forget her embarrassment and stage fright. They even started dancing for part of it. It was really sweet.

After more clapping, whistling and a single ping it was yours and Mettaton's turn. You both got up and took the microphones. With a nod to the "crowd" the machine kicked up and you immediately smile. The first song was 'Wonderland' by Taylor Swift. You glanced at Mettaton and he grinned, giving you control of the first verse. You were nervous sure, but everyone seemed really excited to see you sing in such close quarters. Papyrus was literally on the edge of his seat and Frisk was bouncing excitedly on Sans' chest. The music started, and you jumped into the first verse. Mettaton took care of the harmony, but then jumped in completely for the chorus. He then took the second verse, and I took over the harmony. Though we hadn't sung this song together before, we expertly danced the notes around each other and found a good mix. It was a lot of fun, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. You felt completely at ease in this environment. When the first song ended Papyrus burst into rapid clapping, earning a few chuckles from the others in the room. Then the second song came on. You couldn't help but grin. In a stroke of luck you had received one of your duets with Mettaton. You knew this song backwards and forwards, and happily started dancing along with the steps designed for a concert. Mettaton joined in as well, and seriously it was more fun than being on stage in front of hundreds of people.

All too soon your sets were over and you were bowing as the monsters cheered. The machine beeped, and you started towards the couch. "THAT WAS AMAZING!" Papyrus cried, grinning so widely you though his jaw would break.

"encore!" Sans joined in surprisingly, pumping a fist in the air. Frisk was basically vibrating she was so excited. She started rapidly signing, and Toriel was having trouble keeping up. "uh," Sans started, "she's basically saying that was awesome." You laughed, and gave her a huge hug, sweeping her off of Sans in the process. Papyrus jumped to his feet, snagging the microphone from Mettaton and then his brothers hand.

"COME ON SANS! IT'S OUR TURN NOW!"

"ugggg." Sans groaned, not moving and letting Papyrus pulling him off the couch and across the floor.

"STOP BEING SUCH A LAZY-BONES! YOU PROMISED!"

"i didn't promise anything."

"Don't be such a spoil sport!" You cried, sitting down with Frisk on your lap and tossing the mic at him. It bounced off his rib-cage and he looked up to glare at you. You pushed a hand to your mouth and giggled. Undyne, Mettaton and Papyrus all started booing him. With a heavy sigh Sans heaved himself up and swept up the mic. He didn't look too happy, but seemed to be going along with it.

The first song started, and Papyrus grinned widely. He started off the song, cheerily singing into the microphone. Luckily it was a fairly joyous song, so his excitement matched the tune. He wasn't a half bad singer, if a bit nasally. Then the chorus hit, and Sans reluctantly joined in. Oh my god. He was amazing! He'd only sung a few notes so far and Papyrus was kind of covering him up, but you could tell he had real potential. His voice was low and smooth, keeping relaxed tone though still sounding cheery to match the song. The chorus ended and Papyrus faded out, leaving Sans to continue on his own. Without Papyrus overlapping him, you could clearly hear Sans voice. Wow. You would have swooned if you wouldn't have been deathly embarrassed. Sans seemed a little unsure of himself though, so when you managed to catch his eye you grinned and gave him two thumbs up. He grinned a little wider and you thought you saw a light blue dusting across his cheekbones. Then Papyrus was back in and Sans was able to back off. The two finished off their set and everyone cheered.

"That was amazing!" You say to them as they head back over to the couch.

"I AM GLAD YOU THINK SO!" Papyrus said happily, "I WISH WE HAD GOTTEN ONE OF YOURS AND METTATON'S SONGS THOUGH. THEN I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS AND SANS COULD HAVE STOLEN YOUR THUNDER!"

"yeah, we would have really shocked you then."

"GAH! I WALKED RIGHT INTO THAT ONE!"

You laughed, and Alphys pulled over the computer. "S-so the c-computer has decided w-which pair was the b-best."

"Tell us already!" Undyne cried.

"The suspense is killing me!" Mettaton said dramatically, fake swooning.

"H-huh?" Alphys said, tapping away at the computer. "I-it seems that the p-program decided to compare p-people that didn't p-perform together too."

"Really? Well then why don't we see who out of the pairs won, and then who would perform best together overall, letting the computer decide the best pairs." You suggested.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea." Toriel smiled, putting her fuzzy hands together.

"O-okay s-so out of the pairs the winner is M-Mettaton and (y/n)." Alphys announced. Mettaton squealed and hugged you.

Feeling silly you wiped a fake tear from your eye and said, "I'd like to thank my family and friends. Without their support I never would have made it this far." You added in a sniff and Undyne sneered.

"We get it! You guys are professionals!"

"Oh hon, don't be so jealous." Mettaton cooed, waggling his fingers in her direction. Undyne fake gagged and Frisk crinkled her nose up.

"A-and as for pairs the p-program thinks that Toriel and Mettaton should pair up, F-Frisk should go with P-Papyrus, Undyne and I should stay the same-"

"Was there any doubt?" Undyne interrupted, hugging Alphys from behind. That left... "A-and Sans should pair up with (y/n)."

"ug, who wants to partner with that drama queen." Sans teased.

You huffed at him and you flipped hair over your shoulder and said in your best diva tone, "You should feel grateful to be paired with someone as wonderful as me."

"i can see that you're just trouble waiting to happen. i know to keep my distance."

"See? With what?"

There was a collective groan throughout the room. "Get a room already!" Mettaton cried, earning a few snickers and making you blush a little. You spotted the same blue dusting across Sans cheeks from before, but figured he was just embarrassed from acting like a doofus.

"I JUST HAD A WONDERFUL IDEA!" Papyrus cried out, startling everyone. "WE SHOULD SING IN OUR NEW/SAME PAIRINGS!"

Frisk clapped happily and squealed when Papyrus swept her into his arms. "Sounds like fun." You shrugged, a little curious to see how you and Sans would sound together. Just then though, your phone buzzed and pinged twice. You paused and headed over to your bag, pulling out the sleek white piece of electronic equipment. Mitchell had texted you.

On my way home. if you're up we need to talk. -M

He was coming back? Already? A small sense of panic started to take root in your stomach. You quickly checked the time. It was 11:45pm. Oh no. No no no no no! You started to panic now. You'd been having so much fun you'd forgotten to keep track of time! Now you'd never make it back before Mitchell. It'd take at least and hour to get home, if you didn't get lost and ran the whole way.

"Something wrong, darling?" Mettaton said, coming up behind you.

"I'm going to be late!" You sputtered, darting over to your bag and pulling on your hat. You didn't even bother putting your hair up this time.

"LATE? LATE FOR WHAT?" Papyrus asked, also coming over.

"Curfew! Mitchell's going to beat me home and he'll know I snuck out!"

"OH NO! THAT ISN'T GOOD AT ALL! I KNOW I ALWAYS GET SO MAD WHEN SANS SNEAKS AWAY FROM HIS STATION DURING WORK."

"Exactly!" You had already tugged on your boots before remembering your manners. "Thank you so much for having me over, it was a lot of fun!"

"Well thank you for coming, child." Toriel answered, sounding a little concerned. "We're sorry to have kept you so long."

"Don't be! I just lost track of time. Hopefully I'll be able to see you all again sometime."

"YOU'RE ALWAYS WELCOME HERE (y/n)!" Papyrus said, giving you a tight hug. "OH, I JUST HAD ANOTHER IDEA! WHY DOESN'T SANS TAKE YOU HOME!"

"Sans?" You questioned, being released from his grip and moving on to give Frisk a hug.

"HE COULD GET YOU HOME IN NO TIME AT ALL! RIGHT SANS?"

"but this couch is just so comfy." Sans complained, tilting his head back to look at the door upside-down.

"COME-ON PLEASE? IT WOULD BE JUST LIKE PICKING UP METTATON, ONLY THIS TIME YOU'RE DROPPING (y/n) OFF!" Papyrus insisted. So Sans was Mettaton's "ride"? You wondered what kind of transportation he had if he always got Mettaton over here so fast.

"Please Sans? I'll owe you big time!" You put your hands together and ducked your head. Sans regarded you for a second before sighing and standing.

"alright fine. so where do you live?"

"Thank you so much!" You cheered before rattling off your address. Sans closed his eyes, thinking for a moment, before nodding and stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"cool. i know a shortcut."

You wondered what that meant but were too busy getting the rest of your stuff together. As you did so and said your goodbyes, Toriel came over and gave you an extra slice of pie. You thanked her, and Sans opened the front door, waiting for you. Right before you left though you drew everyone together and Mettaton used his extending arms to snap a picture of you all together. You thanked everyone again, then headed out with Sans. "So where is this short cut of yours?" You asked, tucking your arms around your chest in an effort to keep warm. It felt like the temperature dropped 20 degrees since when you got here.

"don't worry about it." Sans answered with a shrug. "here, give me your hand."

Hesitantly, you offered him your hand. He grinned and wrapped his fingers around yours. Even though he was made of bone, his hand was surprisingly warm. It was just then that you noticed how tall he actually was. He was fairly short, and actually stood at least two inches shorter then you, putting him at around 4'9. It kind of struck you as funny, because that meant there was at almost two feet of difference between him and his brother.

With that you found yourself being dragged along through the snow. You felt an odd sensation building up in your head after a moment, like pressure behind you eyes, and tried to blink the feeling away. When you opened your eyes you were in front of your apartment.

"What the...?" You started, looking around in confusion.

"told you, i know a shortcut." Sans grinned at you, turning his head to look back. You nearly shrieked and jumped away from him. His right eye was entirely black, and his left eye was now large, circular and blue. A small amount of flames seemed to be floating off the iris, while closer to the pupil the colour kept fazing to gold and back. He looked at you questioningly for a moment before realizing what was wrong. "oh, uh," he started, scratching his skull with one hand. The blue faded and his eyes returned to normal. "that happens when i use magic."

"Magic?!" You blinked, alarmed. You knew, theoretically, that monsters were made of and could use magic. You'd never actually seen it in person though. You stared at him curiously, him fidgeting nervously, before a huge smile spread across your lips. "That's so cool! You teleported us didn't you? That's what the shortcut was right?"

Sans flushed, that blue glow popping up again. You decided then that it was actually quite pleasant to see. "yeah..."

"What else can you do?" I asked quickly.

"i'll, uh, explain it to you some other time. don't you have to get inside?"

Slight disappointment flashed through you but then you remembered the time. "Oh yeah! Thank you so much for bringing me home Sans."

"heh, you're welcome, kitten."

You smiled and started towards the apartment buildings door, checking the time as you did so. 11:50pm, Perfect. As you dug through your purse for your key you spotted something you'd forgotten to give Papyrus. You spun around, hoping Sans was still hanging around. He was, surprisingly. "Sans wait!" You called, rushing back over to him. He looked at you questioningly while you came back over. You held the CD out to him and explained. "I forgot to give this to Papyrus. Do you mind giving it to me for him?"

"oh, uh, sure." He took it the case and looked over the cover. "isn't this the new cd you and Mettaton recently released?"

"Uh-huh. Mettaton mentioned that Papyrus was looking to get his hands on a copy before I came over."

"oh yeah, he wouldn't stop bugging me about it. this is great- he was pretty disappointed when the stores were all sold out. this'll make his day." Sans carefully tucked the CD case into his pocket. You were glad you remembered to give it to him in the end.

"Awesome! Well I better get inside, see you around!"

"see ya, kitten."

You stopped, pursing your lips as you realized he'd called you that several times now. You spun back around and asked, "Why do you keep calling me that?"

"calling you what?" Sans tilted his head to the side slightly, thinking for a second. "kitten?"

"Yes, that!"

Sans shrugged nonchalantly. "i guess cause one second you're all cute and innocent, then the next you're blowing someone up and being noisy."

You were a little peeved he called you noisy, but grinned and decided to focus on something else he said instead. "So you think I'm cute huh?"

Sans' eyes widened and he started sputtering explanations with a blue blush dusting his cheeks. "n-no, well yes but l-like a cat you know? n-not that you aren't c-cute as a person too but, um-"

You giggled at his reaction." I know what you mean. And you know, you're pretty cute for a skeleton too." You added in a wink at the end and on an impulse you leaned forwards and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. You bounced away and then up the stairs to your apartment. "See you some other time!" You called over your shoulder with a wave as you slipped inside. Sans waved back in a tentative wave, watching as you turned you back and went inside. What you didn't see was the bright blush coating his cheeks and the hand he lifted to touch where your lips had met bone.

Inside, you made sure to swear the doorman to secrecy though, not wanting Mitchell to catch wind of you going out. You made it to your room and quickly changed into your pajamas, then jumped into bed and grabbing a book to make it look like you had been reading. Even though you were no doubt going to have a very serious conversation with Mitchell when he got home, you couldn't shake the euphoric feeling that had fallen over you. You deeply regretted that you hadn't accepted Mettaton's invitation to go over earlier, but you were happy to say you made three solid friends and three potential ones. With a content sigh you let your head plop onto the pillow and waited for your next chance to see them again.

*Author's note added on May 6th*

I felt the need to add this, simply because I keep seeing comments about it and want to explain. YES I meant that Alphys sings in alto, and YES she can also hit higher notes. This doesn't mean she's a soprano, and it doesn't mean I don't know the difference. As I was in choir when I was little and in High School, I know that alto is considered the mid range and soprano the high. But in my opinion, this doesn't mean alto's can't sing higher notes. Maybe not above the staff, but they aren't limited to below soprano's and above tenors. From my experience, as an alto, we usually sang lower, but sometimes we did go higher, crossing over into the upper tenor range and lower soprano. In my opinion (which might be a little biased) alto's were expected to have one of the widest ranges. For me personally, it hurts to sing low for too long. I prefer to sing higher, and that's what I'm basing Alphys' voice on (in my head). I can't hit anything too far above the staff though or too far below, and that's what makes me an alto. I imagined Alphys' voice the same way.

So for my readers who know the music staff, I intended her voice to be, on the treble clef, right smack dab in the center of the staff, maybe a bit above. So between D and the next octaves F, maybe the G. I didn't mean anything above that. No upper ledgers included in her voice, but maybe the lower ones.

I hope this explains my thinking as to how Alphys' voice is supposed to be in my story. I don't mean for this to be a lecture, or like I'm mad, just as an explanation so you lovely readers understand what I was imagining for this scene. I felt that I should explain, to avoid confusion.
