Choose your actions carefully.
It was a night like any other, and the group of friends that were spending an amazing weekend in the middle of the Blackwood Pines mountain, were all over the house having a great time.
Isaac and Beth where back at the kitchen, he was doing some dishes and she was looking through the windows of the lodge, laughing at whatever Isaac had said.
"Hey, did you see that?" She turned her head towards the curly haired boy. He looked over his shoulder, and met her eyes, frowning.
"What?" Isaac turned off the water, as he grabbed paper towel to dry his hands.
After throwing away the paper, his eyes came back to Beth's worried expression. She was observing through the window, as she bit her lip, and turned to Isaac again. The boy reached her side, and started observing too. Everything seemed quiet and peaceful outside.
"I can't see anything, B. You probably saw a deer..." He smiled, tapping her shoulder.
"Yeah, you're right..." But the concern was still on her eyes.
"Hot chocolate?" The curly haired said, getting full attention from the girl now.
"Sure!" She smiled wide, and went to grab the cups, while the boy got the chocolate and the milk.
"Hey Beth!" Roman called her friend from the table. She was slightly drunk, and wanted a glass of water. "Can you..." she giggled. Isaac rolled his eyes, but a smile appeared on his pink lips. He loved seeing her sister all giggly. "I need some water..." a wheeze escaped her lips. "Can you get me some? Please?" Her hands met in her chest, doing a pray gesture.
"Here you go," Beth handed her a glass of water, while chuckling.
"You're a pussy...!" Chris exclaimed. He was definitely drunk. And a drunk Chris, is a loud Chris. "You are out of the game, McAvery!" He pointed his finger in her direction, while finishing the alcohol of his glass.
"Yeah, you know what...?" Josh Washington raised both of his arms, and exchanged looks with both of his drunk friends. "I'm out to... good night!" He said, after his face hit the table and a big snore abandoned his lips.
A few minutes later, Chris fell asleep too, and now Roman, Isaac and Beth where having a funny conversation thanks to the giggles that left the McAvery girl every ten seconds.
"I'm sorry I'm so giggly..." She apologized. "I think I might be a little drunk..."
"We noticed." Isaac nodded, and his eyes landed on a piece of paper that was in the other corner of the table. "Hey B, was that?" He furrowed his eyebrows, and the short haired twin followed Isaac's gaze. She stood up, and picked up the paper. It was a note. She frowned and returned to her seat, and read the note outloud.
"Hannah, you look so damn hot on that shirt. But I bet you're even hotter out of it. Come to the guest room at two a.m. Winky face. Mike, x, x... x." Beth let out a big snort, while Roman's features straightened, and Isaac raised both eyebrows.
"What the hell?"
"I don't know. Probably a prank." Beth shrugged, as the McAvery siblings shook their heads.
"It doesn't matter if it is a prank or not, I'll throw up anyway," the brunette said, causing her brother and the Washington girl to stand up. Roman, seeing Isaac and Beth just giggled. "I wasn't serious! I mean it's awful, but I am not that drunk. Yikes." She said, twisting her nose as she shook her head, allowing the other two teenagers to sigh and chuckle.
Beth took the empty mugs from the table, and made her way towards the sink, but she didn't even got the water running when Beth noticed her twin sister through the window. The short haired frowned, why would Hannah be outside?
"B, you okay?" Isaac asked, but the Washington girl ignored him and rushed out of the kitchen. The boy loocked at his sister narrowing his dark brown eyes. Roman wasn't fully aware of what happened.
"Isaac why are you looking at me like that?" Her head leaned to one side as she questioned her brother.
"Didn't you see Beth running out of the kitchen? Come on let's go," the boy grabbed his sister's hand and pull it, making the girl almost fell.
"Oops...!"
And before she could tell her brother to be more careful, they were standing outside the entrance of the lodge, Beth was there too, looking at her friends angry.
"What's going on? Where is my sister going?" She asked, exchanging a look between the forest and Sam.
"It's fine, she just can't take a joke!" Jessica said, moving her arm back and foward, as if it wasn't a serious thing.
"It was just a prank, Han!" Emily shouted, and both of the McAvery siblings tensed up. The girl's drunkeness was left on a second place, while the situation around them was put in first priority. The boy adjusted his glasses, as he stared at Emily in disgust.
"What did you do!?" Beth exclaimed, she was upset. Isaac and Roman loocked at each other, both were really worried, and then he squeezed her hand.
"We were just messing around, it wasn't serious, Beth-" Mike tried to explain, but the Washington girl cut him off.
"You jerks!" She screamed, after turning around. She started running towards the forest as she shouted her sister's name.
"Beth, wait! It could be dangerous!" Isaac exclaimed, but Beth didn't look back, and she entered the woods.
"So... should we go after her?" Mike asked, rubbing the back of his neck, not really knowing what to say or do.
"Y'know," Roman spoke, letting go Isaac's hand and crossing her arms over her chest, "I think you guys are the last people she wants to see right now. Specially you, Michael." She narrowed her eyes at him, as he just loocked at the ground, ashamed.
"Come on, let's get inside before your last brain cells freeze." Isaac said in a very low tone, really pissed off by his friends.
"We need to wake up Josh too." Sam said, as she started walking back into the lodge with Roman and Isaac. Matt nodded at her words, and went straight to the kitchen to wake up the wasted boys. Isaac followed him from behind. Matt tried to say something to him, but Isaac walked faster to reach Chris.
Roman sat down beside Ashley, who was about to cry. She then loocked at Emily and Jessica, who were peacefully talking to each other. Roman rolled her eyes at the duo, convinced that they were the ones who planned the prank in the first place —she wanted to yell at them so bad, and call them the ugliest bitches there ever was. But she wasn't going to. They didn't need more tension. (And by the look on Roman's face, Em and Jess could guess how she felt about them).
On the other side of the room was Sam, walking in circles, like a lion on a little cage. Mike was looking out through the kitchen windows (he was also about to cry), while Matt and Isaac were still trying to wake up Josh and Chris.
"We need to do something." Roman said after half an hour of them being silent on the living room, waiting for the twins to come back.
"We already tried to wake up Josh, and it didn't work." Em shrugged. "What else do you want to do?"
"Go out and look for them." Emily and Jessica snorted, making Roman clentch her fists harder.
"We can't go, Rom, it's dangerous." Mike said, crossing his arms over his chest, frowning at the girl.
"A- and there's gotta be a reason why they aren't here-!" Ashley added to Mike's sentence, with her voice shaking and standing by his side.
"Fine!" Roman exclaimed, standing up, grabbing her jacket and putting it on. "I can do it by myself." She passed trough Mike and Ashley, pushing them to the side and walked straight to the door.
"I'll go with you." Isaac said, making his way to her. When he reached her side, the girl nodded, opening the door. The boy loocked back, just to see Sam nodding at him.
"Please be safe." The blonde girl half smiled. "And come back, okay?"
Isaac gave Sam a quick nod before closing the door behind him.
Roman extended her hand to grab his brother's. "Let's go," she said. Isaac squeezed her hand.
"Let's go." He replied, as they entered the woods.
The fog was quite dense, and so were the pines, blocking the moonlight, making it impossible for the siblings to see. Even with the flashlight's of their phones on, they could barely see something.
"Shit!" Roman exclaimed when she collapsed against a three. She let go Isaac's hand to feel her nose. "Is it bleeding?" The boy used his flashlight to check if his sister's nose was in fact bleeding or not.
"It is." He put the light down, sighing.
"Damn it." She frowned, feeling her nose again. Yes, there was something wet. She loocked at her own fingers, they had blood. "Whatever, we need to keep loocking."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. We have to find them-" A piercing and horrible scream echoed as Roman talked.
"What the heck?" Both of them snapped their heads to their left, where they heard the scream come.
"Beth?! Hannah?!" Isaac called them, and started running towards the scream. Roman followed him from behind, also screaming the name of the twins.
But the siblings stopped on their tracks when they saw a guy walking his way towards the entrance of the old mine. Isaac's eyes widened, and so did Roman's. The man turned his head at them.
"What are you doing out here?!" The man yelled, now walking towards them. Isaac took a few steps back, grabbing his sister by her jacket, and making her step back too. "You need to leave!" He yelled again, but the siblings where frozen on their spot. Another scream was heard, making the man jump. "Fuck! You need to run!"
The man then used his flamethrower, making Roman snap back to reality and start running.
"We need to leave, Isaac! Come on!" The girl grabbed his arm and pulled him on the opposite direction of the stranger.
"He has a fucking flamethrower!" The boy exclaimed, still loocking at him, but stepping back.
"Exactly why we need to leave!" She pulled him again, and he finally loocked at her. He was confused, scared and at the same time really intrigued, and so was Roman.
"What the hell? Why does he have a-?" Isaac took a deep breath and faced the man. "Have you seen our friends?! Did you hurt them?!"
The man stopped his flamethrower and walked towards the siblings. Roman gulped and tightened her grip around her brother's hand.
"It's too late for your friends" the man said with a cold tone on his voice. Roman felt her eyes watering. Isaac closed his eyes and slightly shook his head. The mystery man opened his mouth to say another thing, but a scream interrupted him. "Shit!" He pushed Isaac away, dragging Roman with him. "Run! And don't go outside!" And with that, the man was lost in the opposite direction where the siblings started running.
The siblings ran trough the forest, jumping tree branches and rocks, never letting go of each other's hands. However, it was really dark and Isaac wasn't sure if they took the correct path. He stoped running, making Roman stop too. But she wasn't paying attention to where they were going. Her mind was in a trance, it's too late for your friends was the only thing that was on her head. Until Isaac made her snap back to reality by shaking her by the shoulders.
"Wh- what?!"
"Do we take the right or the left?!!" He asked her, with a worried expression on his face. Roman exchanged a look between her brother and the paths. She tried to remember.
"Left! I think - left it's the correct way!"
They didn't run this time, but they sure walked fast. Luckily for them, Roman was right and they saw the lodge in the distance almost right away. They were a few meters from the lodge when another piercing scream made them jump and start running again. Both if them started knocking on the door very hard, as they screamed Sam's name.
Inside the lodge, everyone was nervous for the siblings. And when they felt the door banging, absolutely everyone stood up, and Sam rushed to open it.
"What happened!" The vegan girl exclaimed as she let the siblings entering. She closed the door and took Roman's face on her hands, "Why are you bleeding?!" but the brunette couldn't even answer before she broke down on her blonde friend's hands.
"Isaac what the hell is going on?" Mike asked him after seeing Roman and Sam. "Why is she bleeding? And where are the twins?"
Isaac adjusted his glasses. He crossed his arms around his chest. Holding back tears, he took a deep breath, feeling a knot on his throat.
"Just call 911." He barely said, but that was enough to let the chaos begin.
