Chapter 6 - Garroth's POV
I sat in the room full of crying babies, pubescent teenagers, and elderly people who smelled like nursing homes. It felt tight and lonely in the room, seeming to be as if the walls were pressing in on myself and all of the other people sitting in the area.
I sat alone, for Vylad was out in the city, trying to find a grocery store that had cheap prices and enough to last us of our money for several days. My phone was plugged into the wall outlet, charging throughout the day.
My eyes were taken off the screen by the sight of the doctor standing in front of me. I out my phone down as he said, "I'm assuming you still want to visit Ms. Lorde."
"Absolutely!" I exclaimed, shoving my phone into my pocket and following him down the corridors and to a hospital room. The Doctor went into the room first, and I stood outside, waiting for his 'okay' on my entry.
"Mr. Ro'Meave, you're clear to enter now," he said from inside the room, and I stepped inside, finally seeing the face of Aphmau for the first time outside of the computer. Even though she was scratched and had bruises on her arms, I could see past that and find the beautiful, kind-hearted woman I knew.
I stood there, random sounds coming out of my mouth as I tried to find the right words to say, my stutters coming to a stop when Aphmau began, "Um... So..."
I wringer my hands, not knowing what to do as I sat at the foot of her bed, "I-I can't believe I'm actually meeting you... in real life..."
"Hm? Like could you tell me your name or..." A look of confusion shadowed her face, reminding me of what she had as a result of the wreck.
"W-Wait... Oh no...," I turned my face away from her, hiding the sorrow and disappointment that had channeled deep into my emotions, "I forgot that it was possible you had amnesia..."
She still sounded perplexed as she answered, "Yeah, I guess... It's still very confusing. The only person I remember is my mom. Then again I've only been hospitalized for less than a day..." She chuckled nervously, "So. How do I—did I know you?"
I took my phone from my pocket, handing it to her so she could say all of the previous chats we had shared and communicated in, "This is how we knew each other."
She scrolled through my phone, a smile growing ever so steadily on her face. She finally looked back up, holding my phone out to return, "Wow... I could never think from first glance I knew you, but judging these, we must have been close friends. I'm really sorry I don't remember you're face. With some therapy and tests, it my come back to me... I hope it does!"
"We were—uh—are—I don't know... But I hope it will come back to you." I eased my muscles, loosening up to her to make her feel more at peace and unknowing of who I was, "How are you feeling?
"I'm doing fine. Other than the concussion and amnesia, I left with only a broken arm and a twisted ankle. The nurses in here before said if the drive hit be at a different angle, the glass could have impacted my heart... Does anyone know yet who did hit me?"
I shook my head, wishing I could giver her the answer she deserved, "He's still unnamed. You don't know how happy it makes me feel to hear that you aren't in critical condition. It... it still scared me, though."
"Yeah... It must have been. All I remember is my phone buzzing like crazy. And BAM! I got hit. That's all I remember."
"Did anyone else come to visit you?" I averted my eyes from her and to the window, where the city of Phoenix Drop went on with their lives.
"My mom stopped by for a long time, but that's normal. Your probably the first real visitor. T-Thanks for coming... And staying even though I barely know you anymore." She giggled, reminding me of the girl I had learned to trust; the girl I had fallen for.
I smiled softly, moving my eyes back to her, "I'll be here for a while. My brother and I currently have nowhere else to go... And even though you don't remember me, I'll always be here for you."
A look of shock overtook her face and she stammered loudly, "R-REALLY?!? ARE YOU HOMELESS? I CAN GIVE YOU MY APARTMENT KEYS SO YOU CAN STAY THERE WHILE IM RECOVERING!!! Damn... I feel really bad for you now.... And thanks for the kind words. It does mean a lot."
I brought my hands up, waving them as if to shake off the predicament, "No, no! I'd rather stay here no matter the circumstance I was in."
"Like... The hospital? You sure?" She raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"Yes, I'm positive."
She shrugged, moving past the subject and on to a new one, "What about your brother you mentioned?"
"Oh, Vylad? He's shocked by the ordeal, but he said if it was in your interest to meet him, he would love to visit."
"S-Sure! Tell him to stop by whenever, I'm kinda trapped in this room for a while anyway, might as well talk to people. Especially when I don't know anyone."
"Sounds good...! He's not here at the moment, however. But," I took a deep breath, preparing for the subject, "All of your online friends are praying for your recovery. They all care deeply for you."
"R-Really? How did they find out...?"
I admitted what I did, not wanting to keep secrets from her when she scarcely understood what was happening around her, "It took a lot of willpower to bring myself to tell them... I thought they deserved to know seeing as how good of a friend you were to each and every one of us..."
"Speaking of Internet, I wonder if they have WiFi here...?" Her voice trailed off, adding another thought and wonder to the many others in her mind.
I shrugged, "I'm sure they do. But considering the amount of people are here, I doubt it's anything fast. I could barely send any messages to your—our—friends."
"True... But it means no Minecraft. It's one of the only pleasurable memories I remember... But I definitely don't remember playing with other people..."
"You were very good at hide and seek." I stayed silent for another short moment, bringing myself to another topic, "I hope this doesn't seem overwhelming, but some of your online friends are on their way as we speak to visit you."
Her face lit up with a mixture of emotions. Excitement, anxiety? It was hard to pin down one solid feeling, "Wait... Really? Even though I don't remember them...."
"There are six others who are so keen on making sure you're safe and unharmed."
"Oh... Are all of them coming?"
"Actually, there are two that I don't think will be coming... But would you like me to catch you up on the others?"
"Um... If you want to... What do they look like?" She nodded curtly, waiting for my response.
"Travis is a bit of a pervert. Sometimes that can be an understatement, but that's beside the point. I don't think I've ever seen his or Katelyn's face for that matter, but I have seen Dante and Nicole's. Dante has the brightest blue hair you'll ever see. His eyes match his hair. He seems really close to Nicole, who is a fiery redhead with silver eyes."
"They seem like a nice bunch, all different in their own ways. I bet I was super close with them. It makes me angry that I can't think of anyone or anything for that matter."
"Luckily, the doctor told me that you have a high chance of regaining your memory. I truly hope, Aph, that it does come back to you. You deserved nothing like this. You are the most sincere girl I've ever met, and you never gave up on goodness..."
"T-That's very nice of you to say..." I noticed a slight blush on her cheek, and she turned her head as an attempt to hide it, "I know that you know I sincerely wish I did remember you, you seem very down to earth and kind."
Unexpectedly, the Doctor, who had been standing in the background to give us our time, spoke up, startling me slightly, "I'm sorry, but Ms. Lorde needs her rest. You'll be able to visit he again tomorrow."
I stood up, nodding, "Yes, sir." I then turned towards Aphmau, waving slightly in farewell, "I'll see you later, Aphmau."
"B-Bye... Wait! What's your name again?"
"It's Garroth." I forced a smile, knowing it came out crooked and distorted.
"Well... She blushed once again, "Take care, Garroth."
"And you, as well."
