Chapter 3 - Lucinda's POV

I wait in the dreary waiting room, my hands on my cheeks. Am I really going through with this? I need help... But I also need more Xanax.... UGH!

I mentally scold myself, trying not to create a scene in front of the other creeps here. I feel better than them at least, even though I'm addicted to Xanax and my father just died.

One of the children is rocking in the corner, sickly pale. Another adult is shaking, laughing under their breath. The rest are indescribable, but not as frightening as those three.

To block out these thoughts, I remember that I brought my laptop. It almost make me tear up since my father gifted it to me roughly a year ago but I block the thoughts.

I find myself on Tumblr, smiling for the first time in the past few days. I scroll through the posts one by one. I eventually find myself on the chat page as I catch up on what everyone played and talked about.

Partway through reading the small bickering and talking, a faint buzz comes from my screen.

I enter to home page to the chat to see Travis messaging me so I wait for his message.

ChickMagnet: Hey, I just wanted to check on you.

Lucy_The_Witch: I'm doing okay. Nothing big, no need to worry. Wbu?

ChickMagnet: Eh. Are you feeling better?

I think for a moment about what to return as I decide not to worry him.

Lucy_The_Witch: I guess... But like I said, it's not your job to worry about little old me :) Whatcha up to?

ChickMagnet: Nothing, really. And Lucy, can you blame me for being worried? You haven't been the same in the chats or anything. I'm concerned for you.

My heart flutters a little, triggering a small blush that I can see through the mirror across from me on the wall. I never want anyone to fear, especially since I'm here to get help.

Lucy_The_Witch: Trust me when I say I'm doing okay. It's not like I'll magically be okay, but I'm not going to do anything extreme.

ChickMagnet: ...okay. Are you fine with video chat?

I look around me as I notice all eyes are on me since I am the only one with an electronic. I bite my lip and decide against showing my face and where I am located.

Lucy_The_Witch: I'd rather just text, so it's not all awkward, ya know? Plus, I've only showed Aphmau my face, I don't think I'm ready...

ChickMagnet: That's understandable. If you ever need any of my help, just send me a message. I'm always here for you, Lucy.

Lucy_The_Witch: Thanks. You up for talking a little longer?

ChickMagnet: If it's alright with you.

Lucy_The_Witch: Sure... But enough about me, k? What's up with you?

ChickMagnet: Well... I got dragged to a party by my roommate . That's all I want to say. Something else happened that I'm not comfortable with sharing.

Lucy_The_Witch: Oooo scandalist Travis 😏 Jk, but sorry to hear about that... Wish I could help you about that but kinda can't...

ChickMagnet: It's fine... I wouldn't want to cause any further trouble.

Lucy_The_Witch: True... Well I'm actually on a time crunch... I have a doctors appointment I gotta go for. Sorry about everything, T. U wanna talk about it later?

ChickMagnet: Yeah, I suppose so. Talk to you later, Lucy ;)

Lucy_The_Witch: Bye, Travis :)

I close the screen, logging of just in time for the nurse to enter the waiting room. For what seemed like hours on my computer was only 45 minutes.

"Ms. Crespo?" The woman calls as I rise from my seat. All pupils hit me like a wave as I nervously go through the door. I stumble a little, still hazy from the multiple bottles of medicine.

She leads me to a room near the back, painted drably with little to no color noticeable. I click my crimson shoes as I wait on the chair for anyone to enter. I find myself becoming uncomfortable the more I sit alone, slowly becoming claustrophobic from the gray walls.

For what seems like forever, a young man enters, adjusting his glasses on top of his head. His brown hair and chocolate eyes compliment his pale skin.

"Hello, Ms. Crespo. My name is Doctor Harrison, but you can indeed call me Kenmur." He pronounces in a rhythmic tone. He gets serious quickly, looking into my burning red eyes. "I'm truly sorry about..." He coughs, "about your father... I knew him well as I ran for Meteli's mayor at one point... I just wanted to get that out before your visit."

I frown and nod, welcoming his sympathy. He pats my back, leading to a hug. It startles me but I embrace him back. The blonde nurse from before comes in, tapping Doctor Harrison.

"AHEM!!" She coughs, crossing her arms. The doctor blushes.

"Sorry hon..." He replies, pecking her cheek. "This is Lucinda... Crespo." The nurse realizes this and looks at her feet.

"Sorry..." She apologizes, leaving quickly and quietly.

After a moment of silence, he speaks up. "That's my girlfriend, Emmalyn. Don't tell anyone...," he begins whispering. "But I plan to propose to her in the next week!"

"Really? Congrats!" I mumble, attempting to become perkier as he fills out his clipboard sheet.

"Soo...," he begins. "What did you want to talk about or check on? Your menstrual cycle? Depression?"

"Something along those lines..." I mutter, gulping before continuing. "I may have, over the past few days, became addicted to my spare Xanax medicine. I had horrible anxiety throughout middle school and half of high school, but this... I... Broke. Four bottles in less than 70 hours. I came to seek help."

He stands still, just looking me over and staring, nodding as he reaches different body parts with his eyes. He eventually leads me to a room to take tests for this newly found addiction as it confirms a large overdose, as I stated.

He schedules a meeting for a week from now, putting a temporary tattoo on me with coded numbers that help doctors and pharmacists indicate that I cannot handle any drugs until I meet with him again, no matter what I say. It is a different thing if I get into an accident or I am dying, but it helps and make me feel safe.

I leave, feeling happy and confident about my choices, but empty without the medicine. It makes me wonder what might happen over the next few days, worrying me and making me overjoyed at the same time.
