THE REFLECTION OF sun on the tile flooring of the school made Kendra squint her eyes. She wasn't going to miss the school. She was going to miss the friends that she made. It didn't mean she was never going to see them again, it did mean that she wasn' going to see them as often as she wanted to.
That's what got to her. And it's what got her hugging her friends a little tighter in each class she had to say goodbye. It came to her class with both Peter and Ned and the second she entered it, she knew something wasn't right. She neared their table and as soon as Peter saw her, he straightened up, giving his brightest smile as Ned quickly straightened up after.
Kendra furrowed her eyebrows at their behavior but nonetheless took her seat next to Peter, looping her arm though his and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Why are you two oddly quiet," she spoke, looking up at Peter who locked his eyes with her.
"We're not that talkative," he spoke and Kendra giggled.
"You aren't, but Ned is," she spoke looking to the boy whose mouth was shut so tight she could see the pressure. She knew if she stared any longer he would break, so she pressed as best as she could with her stare, her eyes widening and her brows furrowing slightly.
Ned glanced at Peter who seemed panicked. Whatever is was that they were talking about, they didn't want her to know. That irked her. Peter and Kendra have been in a relationship for over a year now, what couldn't he tell her now?
"Peter was telling about collecting antique spoons!" Ned piped up and Kendra sat up straight, looking between the two and Peter looked to Ned as if he was betrayed.
"What? No, that's Ned's plan," Peter glanced at Kendra. She sat back in her chair, crossing her arms as she looked at the two. Ned is also the same kid that has a hat collection and needed help packing them all.
"Ned, buying antique spoons is an investment and smart, so don't feel insecure," she spoke and Ned nodded, a small smile flashed onto his features as he glanced at Peter with something that looked like relief.
"I just want the day to be over," Kendra chuckled as she looked her arm through Peters, "I miss your aunt." Peter leaned back in his chair and leaned over into her. It seemed that ever since they came back from space, they were never separate for long. And Kendra liked it that way, she liked knowing that he was safe considering everything that's happened.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of her phone and she pulled it out to see that the number was unknown.
"Don't answer it, I've been getting the same thing for a few days now," Peter spoke and Kendra furrowed her brows, deciding against his advice and answered.
"Hello?" She asked, glancing at Peter who watched her wide eyed.
"Kendra Stark," A familiar voice flooded her ears and she smiled, getting up and walking out of the classroom, standing in the hallway, "it's been hard trying to reach your boyfriend."
"Well, he doesn't answer to unknown numbers, Nicholas," She smirked and looked to Peter through the window in the door, "besides, whatever you need us for, I don't want him involved, we've all been through too much and we need this vacation, call Steve or Sam, I can give you both their numbers if you've lost them."
She looked out to Peter through the window in the door to see his face of concern, she sent him a smile and a thumbs up and soon that face turning into relief.
"Why can't we use your dad?" Fury asked and Kendra frowned, looking at her phone for a second and putting it back to her ear.
"Because he's retired with two kids, and he's earned his retirement, I swear to god, Nick if I catch you outside our house-"
"We won't go near him," Fury spoke up, calming Kendra down slightly.
"Look, if it gets worse, call me again, or do your creepy shield thing and find me, but I'm serious Nick, it better be life or death," Kendra spoke and looked up to see a late student staring at her as she walked past. The girl only gave a polite wave before walking into the classroom next to Mr. Dells.
"We'll be in touch," Nick spoke and Kendra rolled her eyes.
"You don't want to be," Kendra replied and hung up, walking back into the classroom. A number of students stared at her before going back to their conversations.
It seemed that ever since she cane back from Titan, the aspect of her ever having a normal student life was thrown onto a highway to be flattened. Kendra couldn't go anywhere with out the stares, without the smirks. She absolutely hated it.
"Who was that?" Peter asked and Kendra looked around before leaning into his ear.
"Nick Fury," she whispered, leaning back to see the shock evident on his face. Kendra couldn't help her smile. She loved seeing his face no matter what.
She could watch his features to no end if she wanted to. She loved finding new things like the way his eyebrows twitch before he gets an idea. Or the way his cheeks puff out a bit more when he's frustrated. Kendra could go on about the red tint that would color his face when she complimented him for anything he does.
Kendra loved watching Peter.

WHEN THE FINAL BELL rang for the students to leave, it was chaos. Kendra watched as the students stampeded the front doors, their loud voices blending with their equally loud marching made it seem like Kendra did join the army. The only thing that made her realize this didn't happen was the fact that she was in a school with her boyfriend beside her watching the crowd leave, with only a few students trailing behind.
The school was practically vacant with only the teachers there when Peter, Ned and Kendra left. Kendra watched as the two parted ways with their hand shake outside the school before Peter and Kendra made their way Peters home. May had a dinner planned for the three and Kendra was excited to be back at his place. She hadn't been there in a while and she missed May.
The sun was on the verge of setting when they got there, Kendra's glasses covered up most of her face as they entered the building, and soon enough, entered the apartment. She looked around with a smile, never releasing Peters hand as she made her way to the kitchen.
May stood there with her hair tired up, glasses hanging on the bridge of her nose as flour caked the apron she wore. She looked up, and her face dropped in relief.
"Good, you're home, gets some aprons on, Peter stir the pot, Kendra, get that celery chopped, make sure it's not too thin," May spoke, she was in a work mode that Kendra has never seen before with any of the Mays on screen.
Kendra was quick to release Peter and head over to the cabinet where two more aprons were hung, she gave one to Peter and threw one on herself, tying it up before heading over to the counter where the celery and knife laid on the chopping board. Kendra knee she was faster than most but she never knew that she could chop celery lime she was an expert.
"You must do this a lot at the cabin," May pointed out and Kendra shrugged.
"I actually haven't chopped anything at the cabin yet, Mom doesn't really like anyone getting in her way when cooking, she loves doing it though," Kendra pointed out as she scrapped the chopped celery into a smaller dish.
May only chuckled as they all went into their little zones, somehow, getting them in-sync with each other as they all eventually got the soup finished. Peter was in the dining area setting the table when Kendra was stopped from bringing out the pot. May stood in front of her with a sympathetic smile.
"Peter told me about the thing you did on that planet, and I know it's not an easy thing to process, are you okay?" May asked and Kendra returned the smile.
"I'm doing so much better than beofre, really," Kendra answered, "I feel like it's finally at the point in everything where everyone gets a breather, maybe it's the end, I don't know." May only nodded and patted Kendra shoulder and let her through, watching at the short, dark-haired girl set the pot in the center of the table.
Kendra turned to Peter who was taking off the apron, and found herself giggling at the site of the extra flour used for the soup broth in his hair. She walked over, ruffling it out with her hand. She watched his face turn up with a smile, and she watched his pupils widen further as they finally rested on her.
Kendra hearted swelled and she turned to May in the doorway who somehow found time to grab her camera.
"So, how about this soup?"
