Chapter Five: Heartbreak

Well this was just swell, I'd found my soulmate and he hated me, or at least he wasn't exactly ecstatic to find out. I followed him and the pretty girl to his cabin. Wow, grass is incredibly green! I knocked on his dark wooden door.

"Hello?" I asked, pushing my sliding glasses up on my face.

"Go away, Piper!" He yelled, and my heart fluttered at his Italian accent.

"Sorry Will. I'll get him out here." She told me. "Nico, can you open the door?"

Nico muttered something, then the door swung open, and I quickly stared at the green grass. Piper went inside and Nico coldly closed the door.

I started running to my cabin, not caring who saw. All I knew was that I was destined for loneliness. I went into the bathroom of the Apollo cabin and locked the door. I looked in the mirror at my tan skin and blond hair and horrible glasses. I'd never had the extra money to get contacts. But people had chipped in to get me optical insurance, because I suppose they didn't want me to be helping patients I could barely see. In the mirror, I saw the way my bright orange shirt clashed with my skin and glasses. I almost wished I was still colorblind.

"Will?" I heard Annabeth at the door.

"Schist." I whispered to myself.

"Will, I know you're in there!" She swiftly fiddled with the lock, and in seconds she was inside, I started to weep miserably. "Oh Will, it's okay." Annabeth embraced me and let me cry on her shoulder.

"W-wait." I said between sobs, and took off my glasses and put them on the sink.

"Are you ready to talk yet?" She asked kindly.

"I guess" I said, and told her the whole story. He face showed true sympathy, and she hugged me again, what did I do to deserve such friendship?

"Wait here Will, I'll be right back." She closed the door on her way out. I found myself able to grab my glasses and sat down on the closed toilet seat, then I let my tears stream down my face. Soon, Annabeth came back, dragging Nico with her and opened the door. I looked at him in shock, and wiped the tears from my face. Now that I could see in color, I noticed his pale olive skin and jet black hair. He too, had slight tear stains on his face. This was incredibly awkward, so I tried to break the tension by giving him a hug.

"Are you okay?" I asked, my voice shaky. But he broke away quickly and muttered a few profanities while storming out of my cabin. As I watched him leave, I felt a new sensation. Heartbreak.
