Chapter Eleven: Helpless

  Will's PoV:

I paced the room. Stop it, Will, he'll be fine. I thought to myself.

"Doctor Solace?" I turned around to see Rachel, in her frizzy red-headed glory. "So, what's the issue with Percy?"

I sighed. "Some kind of monster attacked him, left a claw in his side that must've had traces of poison in it. Nico believes he faded into the shadows and that he can rescue Percy, but I don't know because gods forbid hat Nico would ever confide in me for this sort of thing even though we've been together for just a few days he needs to trust me and tell me things and-"

  "Will?"

  "What, Rachel?"

  "You're ranting."

"Oh. I'm sorry I didn't notice. Well, you can leave."

She frowned. "Are you sure you don't want somebody here with you?"

"Just-" I exhaled deeply. "Just go."

-*-*-*-*-

The beams of morning light hit my face. I hadn't gotten any sleep. I was simply staring at Percy's vacant unconscious state. Wouldn't Nico have been back with him at this point? I wasn't even sure if he was actually my boyfriend, or if he was just my close male friend who I kissed. Crap, I miss him too much.

-*-*-*-*-

Three days have passed now. I gradually become more and more worried. As I sit next to Percy, someone new knocks on the door.

"Hey Will!" Piper chirped, followed in by the rest of the Seven.

"H-hey." I croaked out. I don't think that I'd spoken in an entire day.

"We brought coffee and bagels!!" Hazel said happily. "We figured you need to eat something."

"Thanks." I took a coffee and a seemingly delicious bagel, at least according to Hazel and Piper.

"Hey man," Leo said, coming over to my side. "If they could survive Tartarus, they got this easy."

"Yeah." I wasn't convinced. At all. Nico and Percy were in serious danger, and I couldn't do anything! I was helpless. "Uh-could you guys excuse me, for just a moment? I've gotta go to the bathroom." I set down my coffee and half-eaten bagel. As I walked out, in my peripheral vision, I saw Hazel and Annabeth look at each other, then Annabeth came to my side.

"Will, are you okay? You look like all the sunshine has been drained from your body." She asked quietly.

Suddenly, I snapped. "Of course I'm not okay! Our soulmates are in serious danger, maybe dead, and we c-can't-we-" I broke into tears, right there in the waiting room of the infirmary.

And then Annabeth joined me, because we had something in common.

We were colorblind.
