Rewiring the Future (Part 1)

(After this chapter all I can say is buckle up tomtord fans. It's gonna get confusing and psychotic, if it hasn't already.)

I was unable to keep my grin suppressed anymore. I looked into Edd's eyes and took a deep breath,

"Well, first off, were gonna be getting the hell out of here."

His eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas, "What- but... how?"

"I guess you could say I know a guy. I can't tell you who he is, but you'll recognize him as soon as you see him. Anyway, this afternoon he pulled me aside and told me he could get us out. I was skeptical at first but he brought me outside into this whole-ass tunnel under the ground. Apparently it used to be used for missions, but it was abandoned after a while. It will take us into a city in Norway where someone will meet us and fly us home." I explained.

Edd was conflicted between a mix of confusion and hope. He sighed and asked, "What if this is a trap?" I reached over to squeeze his hand gently.

"This is our only chance. He seems trustworthy and has a genuine reason for wanting to help us as well. Around 11 tonight he will distract Tord with some work and leave the door unlocked for me. He'll bring Matt here, and once I get here, all of us to the tunnel. The only thing is, he will need to attach your robotic leg. You're okay with that, right?"

Edd nodded and relaxed noticeably. My smile dropped slightly while I kept explaining, "I hardly got outside today. It's so difficult to get away from Tord. When I got back inside he was super mad and made me wear this stupid sweater."

He looked down and let go of my hand. Silence filled the room for a few tense seconds. I stuffed my hands into my pockets.

"Edd, do you have something to tell me? You've been hinting at it for a while. If we don't make it out alive- which I'm sure we will, you would never get to say it." I questioned nervously.

He shook his head, "You've got a lot going on now. I'd rather not burden you with this. As soon as we get out, I'll tell you. But if we don't..." he paused, moving closer. Our faces were inches away when he pulled me into a giant hug.

I giggled into his hospital clothes, letting myself hug him back tightly. I pulled away after a few seconds.

"I've got to go, we'll talk later right?"

"Of course we will." I stood up and gave him one last wave before closing the door behind me.

Walking down the winding halls of the army base was different now. I was filled with a sense of hope and happiness, for the first time in a long time. But, while entering the elevator, I couldn't help but think about what would happen after this. Edd, Matt, and I have had our fair share of adventures. What would be next? Would we go back to our old apartments? Or would we move back in together? I don't know if I would be able to feel safe on my own anymore. I wondered about what would happen to Tord. I didn't think I wanted to know. He was crazy. He deserved whatever bad things were going to happen to him. The elevator doors opened and I walked until I reached Tord's office, knocking rather aggressively. He opened it with a cold expression, immediately putting his arms around me.

"Your still freezing, dear." He muttered bitterly.

"It's not that bad really. I'm fine." I knew he still hadn't forgiven me for earlier bit I attempted to brush it off. Tord clearly didn't buy it and grabbed my hand with his human one. We walked quietly back to his living area and into his room. Tord laid me down on his bed and pulled the covers over me. He kissed my forehead softly.

"Get some rest, I don't want you to get sick. Jeg elsker deg kjære~" He purred in my ear.

I've learned the meaning of that phrase all to well. I didn't respond, however, and watched him close the door. I wasn't feeling tired at all, but I couldn't deny how comfortable and nice smelling the sheets were. I cuddled into the them, letting myself relax. Before I knew it, my eyelids threatened sleep. I let myself sink into the calming abyss of dreams. I couldn't wait for when I woke up.
-
When I opened my 'eyes', a white glow from the moon filled the room. I heard a rustling noise from beside me and sat up, looking around. I saw Tord looking through a night table drawer. He noticed me staring and looked up with a small smile.

Closing the drawer, he came up to me and held my cheek in his hand, "Hey sleepyhead. I need to go do some work, but I'll be back soon. Are you feeling alright?" Tord pulled his hand away and pecked my cheek.

"Uh, yeah?"

"Good to hear. Tell Edd I say hi." He smirked and left the room, leaving me to question what the fuck just happened.

Tord only let me see him with his permission. He wasn't supposed to know I was going to see him tonight. That couldn't mean- no. He was probably just being weird again. I glanced over at the clock, which read 10:51. I threw the covers off me, going over to peep through the door. Tord was long gone. I walked out into the empty living room, the only thing in my hand being my old hoodie which Tord had washed for me. I brushed my fingers over the fabric of the couch, taking in one last deep breath. I crossed the room and turned the door knob, which had been left unlocked according to plan.

I walked through the halls for what was meant to be the last time. Just as I reached the elevator, there was familiar sensation of cloth against my mouth and a strong arm pressing me to their body. I screamed into the cloth, trying to kick my attacker. They chuckled darkly against my hair.

"Shh..." Their Norwegian accented voice sounded. I knew who it was. My body felt too weak to fight back. My vision was blurry and I couldn't do anything but melt into his touch. He was just so warm. The last thing I could recall before passing out were the words,
"It's okay, kjære."
