Weakness
While Jack had yet to receive his blood test answers, he was at the lab today. They had managed to capture a bees and were running tests to see what gave it it's huge size. However the monitors kept fizzing out, it was the strangest thing.
He had to file some reports in his office. There were also complaint letters from higher branches of government saying they were going to cut his funding if something didn't happen within the next two months.
Jack sighed, if only it were so simple to just capture a cat and send it in, but every time they had tried that the subject died under mysterious circumstances. Any blood they had dried up, and DNA traces just dissapeared. It wasn't very often they captured one and needed them here more than sending them away. It was all very frustrating.
Thee was a sharp knock on the door. And Jack ushered the person inside. It was another man holding a small pot, a nail, and a lighter.
"Sir, we've discovered something that might be of your interest."
Jack waved his hand for the man to continue. He placed the pot on his desk, and held up the nail and the lighter dramatically.
"So we know that these things alone have no affect on the subjects, right?" He pushed the nail towards the small tree, which twisted away from it but nothing happened.
Then he switched on the lighter and held it towards the small twig-like growth. The flames licked hungrily around the woods but, nothing happened.
Jack nodded, unsure where this was going but the man had his attention.
"Watch this."
He put the iron in front of the lighter so the flames curled around the metal, than held it in front of the sapling.
The flames turned blue, and the sapling started twisted and writhed, as if trying to run away. The man touched the blue flame to the bark.
And it burned.
Jack smiled. Now they could go and burn down the forest. If all the animals scurried into nearby towns, where there were people who probably had access to social media, that would definitely prove we have to do something about this enchanted forest problem.
"Good job Nathaniel, you have the rest of the day off work." I congratulated.
The man beamed, straightening his lab coat and walking puff chested from the room. Jack however, had an invasion to plan.
But he didn't notice the yellow envelope labeled; RESULTS, sitting on the corner of his desk.
