Ghost Curse
I still shivered at Xavier's comment. There was no way he could possibly know, unless Zara told him. And if that was true, how did he learn about human timekeeping skills, it only made sense that he had spent time or-
"Hello Zach, my daughter has told me a lot about you, I just want to start out and say, thanks, for helping her, if there's anything you need, I owe you."
I was yanked from my thoughts as the room I was in suddenly came into focus. It was round, and quite large, with a round, cylinder shaped, table-like, bump in the middle. I took a seat, more or less opposite of Nepal. Zara was here too, looking curiously at me.
"You're welcome sir," I answered. "As a matter of fact, I do need you help, I don't if Zara told you or not...."
I pursed my lips as he looked thoughtful. "Ah yes, you used to be human, the only creatures that I know capable of transforming the shapes of others are ghosts."
I gave him a somewhat sarcastic look. "Ghosts? Like, OOooooOOOoo,"
I waved my paws in the air, he gave me a confused look. Zara had done a facepaw, and was shaking her head back and forth. I got the feeling that was the wrong thing to say.
"Um, no, but as I said earlier, they would have to be extremely powerful, and have a high rank. I do believe only members of the royal family can use transformation."
So these 'ghosts' inherit their powers by rank. That was cool, I would love to see in the archives had a scroll on them.
"Do you guys have powers that claws of lesser ranks don't have? Like, can royal Ice-claws actually shoot ice from their paws?" I grinned, and Zara looked like she wanted to slap me.
"Glamora! No, that is why the ghosts are so corrupted, everyone is one the mad struggle for power, now, I can schedule you for an audience with our magycian, he might be able to do something, but to be honest, few can reverse the curse of a ghost."
----------------
"He said what!?" Xavier gasped.
I had been dismissed from Nepal's presence after that, and had run into Xavier and Kyle again. They asked where I had been, so I told them.
"Ghosts don't curse people," he moped, Kyle nudged his shoulder.
I gave him a sideways look, why was he acting so offended? "Are ghosts actually real?"
They both stared at me. "Of course, you've never seen one?"
I shrugged. "Honestly, where I come from, ghosts are just stories made up to scare little kids."
"You scare baby goats! Why would you do such a thing?" Kyle burst.
I laughed. "No, that's what we call the young claws, or kits, kittens, what are they called here?"
"Kits will do just fine," Kyle replied.
"And I suppose they call claws something ridiculous like, cats right?" Xavier giggled.
I almost hissed. How did he know that? I stared at him open mouthed while he and Kyle laughed. He was scaring me, with all his knowledge. After a few seconds I laughed nervously too, not to seem awkward.
There laughing stopped abruptly, And I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned around see Zara. She was smiling somewhat awkwardly at me. Her gaze seemed to jump back and forth between me and my newly acquired friends.
"Hey, since you're new and all, I could teach you flying,"
Excitement welled up inside me, this meant I reach the higher shelves! "Yes! Definetly, is it okay with you guys?"
I turned back to Xavier and Kyle. "Sure, I have to go study anyway, Kyle?"
"Yeah, study," They walked away.
"Strange, I don't really remember them before." Zara squinted at there disappearing forms.
"You have been gone for a while,"
------------------
"Ghosts don't curse people!" Kyle glared at Xavier. "What were you thinking!"
He hung his head down in shame. "I know, it's just, I feel like he's the one, it's either him or his friends."
"You not so sure are you? This is the least sure you've been in years!" He huffed.
Xavier glanced around, squeezing around a calico who threw them a glare. Kyle was still fuming.
"We need to find a safer place to talk, there's to many claws around."
Three minutes later they were outside in the snow. It was cold and frosty, Xavier's breath was visible against, the afternoon light.
"I don't even know why we do this!" Kyle all but screamed.
"Keith, I told you time after time, we're saving the world," Xavier replied.
"I thought we were using fake names,"
"There's no one around to hear," Xavier.
"We should tell you're father, this is out of you're hands."
Xavier's face darkened, hiss fur standing on end and his white feathers fluffed up in anger. "Whatever we do, we must not, tell my father, you understand."
Keith huffed. "Fine, but what makes you so sure about those three?"
Xavier tapped his eye, "one bears the mark, and she's the only dragonfly we've come across yet."
"What about the other? Her brother died years ago."
Xavier remained silent. He refused to make eye contact with Keith. Whole minutes passed before the other claws eyes widened. He backed up a few steps.
"No you didn't! You knew all along didn't you!"
Xavier sighed. "I admit, I did have some part taking in it."
"Is there something that you haven't messed with already? I bet you even know where all the Four are."
"Okay, so I've been keeping tabs on them, so what?" Xavier puffed.
"You're changing the world!" Keith looked ready to burst
"No I'm saving it," Xavier replied. "I'm making sure everything is in it's place, and when the time comes, the prophecy will flow smoothly."
Keith, calmed down a bit. But his breath still came out in short burst that made a small white cloud. It disappeared as he breathed again.
"What about the last verse, what will you do about that? When the time comes, and the prophecy demands it, will you have him in the right spot? Are you really going to do it?" Keith looked him right in the eye.
Xavier looked down. "I... I don't know,"
"There are somethings you just can't do, Xanthos."
