Fierce like a Dragon

I scurried across the street to my house as fast and quietly as I could. Though I nearly got hit by a car. The front door was so close, but my hand stopped before I opened the door. This was tremendously big mess I was getting myself into. I had to keep her hidden until I could safely transport her to a place where her injuries could be properly treated. I just hope my dad didn't have a crazy allergic reaction. My fist curled around the cool metal knob, I squeezed it and turned.

The tv flickered hypnotically as I crept across the floor. My dad was asleep on the couch, snoring loudly. I made it to the stairs and was almost out of sight when I slipped and crashed a few steps down before catching myself. I managed to not drop the cat while falling, but my dad started suddenly.

I dropped and pressed myself against the ground. He got up and walked the kitchen, grabbing a snack and walking back to his chair. Before he sat down, his head tilted in my direction. For a moment our eyes locked and I was sure he could see me. I stopped breathing as if the slightest breath would give away my location. The he yawned and sat back down. I continued my silent way up the stairs. I almost made it until a voice sounded from behind me.

"Zach?"

I turned around guiltily, he was staring at me with a confused expression.

"Um, hi?" I tried to sound as unsuspicious as possible.

"Are you going out?" He questioned.

"Yes, I mean no, I was, now I'm inside.." I glanced at the ceiling, cursing my run away mouth.

"Where were you going?"

"Um... Shopping?" I mentally slapped myself, worst. Excuse. Ever.

He gave a sarcastic look. Like, sure right, it's the middle of the night and you're going to the store. I slapped myself again.

"What's in the jacket?" He reached out, but I batted his hand away.

"Uh, groceries?" I shifted backwards.

"I thought you said you didn't go anywhere."

"Hmmm, I did, didn't I?" I glanced wildly around the room, hoping for some way out of the deep, dark hole I had dug myself.

"Look over there!" I screamed and dashed up stairs.

He turned around confused, but I was already gone. I sighed and banged my head against the wall. That, was embarrassing, I am a terrible liar. What could I tell him? Oh I just walked across the street 'cause I heard a noise, turns out it's actually a winged cat from my pictures that you've never seen before because you forbade to draw them again!

"Zach?" I could hear the sound of him ascending the stairs.

I quickly cleared out my closet and carefully placed the cat behind some clothes. He knocked on my door, and I jumped on my bed. He opened the door just as I picked up a book.

"Are you okay?" He asked staring at me.

"Yes, I am fine, you however look exhausted, off to bed with you!"

"What?" I pushed him out and shut the door, the lock clicked shut and I breathed out a tense breath. I could hear my dad sigh and mumble something about teenagers.

I melted with relief as he went back down stairs. Then I took the cat back out and stared at her admiringly. Then I realized, she would need a name. Fluffy wouldn't do, she had the fierce look of a dragon, and the grace of a cheetah.

Although, I would need to check her wing over, her body was full of bruises, and her wing didn't look broken. Dislocated maybe. Then it struck me, fierce like a dragon, flight of a bird. Dragonfly, I would call her Dragonfly.

"Dragonfly, it's perfect," I breathed.

Now for her injuries, no blood, her wing would have to wait till tomorrow. Broken bones I could deal with, but dislocation called for the bone to be forced back into the socket. I would need Andrew's help with that. My stomach sloshed sickeningly, I shook my head, and shivered. I stared at her again, and suddenly, my vision went black, and I heard screams.

Then the world was filled with fire, distressed creatures flapped around my head. I cowered, something bad was happening. Sharp talons grippe my back and I was yanked into the air. I heard the yells of Dragonfly.

"Alex! Alexander!"

"THEN WE CAN'T SHARE THE SKY!"

I gasped and then I was zoomed back to my room. I sucked in a shaky breath, what's happening to me? I don't understand what these pictures in my head meant. I don't understand why Dragonfly wanted this person named Alex, or why the other voice was having trouble sharing. It didn't make sense, I had a headache. I figured it must be from lack of sleep, I needed to get to bed. I put a blanket over her and crashed onto my bed. And my eyes shut before I could even have another thought.

I woke up to a very annoyed kitty, sitting on my chest. Thank goodness I had decided to lock my door. I gasped amazement of Dragonfly's brilliant colored eyes. One was green, the other blue, yet she didn't seem to be having any difficulty seeing. They were an intense color spectrum I had never seen in cat before. Only, her expression told me I was about to lose an eye. I tried to touch her, but she hissed and scurried away. I got up and hunted for a box, I had to get her to Pawsteps as soon as I could. The sooner we undislocated her wing, the better. I found a box, but getting her inside of it was a different matter all together. I had to find her, and when I tried to grab her without stressing her wing she clawed and scratched at my arms. I was bleeding pretty badly by the time she paced around in the cardboard. I wrapped a bandage around my arms and left.

The look plastered on Andrew's face when I walked in with a box said, oh no.

"No, no, no, not another animal, this one stays with you this time!" He turned around, and started to walk away.

"Andrew! This one's hurt," I pleaded.

He stopped, sighed, then walked over to take the box from me. I followed him quietly into the back. When he uncovered the top, he went stone-still.

"What is that?"
