Gameshoooooows (Why)
"Mind if I change the rules a little?" Frank asked suddenly. Percy raised his eyebrows, then nearly laughed out loud when the son of Mars turned into a butterfly and floated over to land next to him before turning back into himself.
The man narrowed his eyes. "Very well. Both of you shall play."
"Who are you?" Percy asked immediately.
He smirked. "Oh no no, son of Poseidon, you'll have to earn your questions."
Percy narrowed his eyes. "And how do we do that?"
"A simple game of Would You Rather."
Percy and Frank glanced at each other. "What's the catch...." Percy finally asked.
Two of the cages flew open. Before it could get any farther, Percy shook his head. "If it's putting them in danger, we're not playing."
"Oh but you don't understand. Playing is the only way to keep them out of danger."
"What are we doing?" Frank asked slowly.
The man beckoned Jason and Nico out of their cells. They walked out apprehensively, glancing at each other.
"This is all hypothetical... Each of you pick one of your friends."
Percy and Frank frowned.
"If this is a fight, you take Nico. I'm closer to Jason's size." Frank suggested quietly.
Percy nodded warily. "I don't want to fight them...."
"I don't either. But we have to figure out how to get them out of here." Frank pointed out.
He sighed and nodded, shifting his grip on Riptide. "Fine. I'll take Nico."
The Italian kid darted over, putting Percy between himself and his captor. Percy remembered sharply that he was only a sophomore, a fifteen year old dragged into this mess. (I don't remember how old he was when the story started)
Jason walked over to Frank, looking around. He was fairly calm considering the situation.
"Now, this is how it's going to work." The man walked over to an open area. "I'll ask you simple questions about your friends. So long as you answer truthfully and each of them is an answer, no one will get hurt. If someone's name hasn't been truthfully mentioned... well, you'll see what happens. Ready to begin?"
"Wait!" Percy held a hand up quickly. "Before we do... let us check on everyone."
The man tipped his head. "Very well. Five minutes."
All the cell doors flew open, but a heavy metal door slammed closed in front of the hall they'd came from.
"Percy!" Piper ran out of her cell and threw her arms around him. "Oh thank goodness...."
"Is everyone okay?" Frank asked as the others ran out. There was a chorus of answers. Jason, Piper, Leo, Nico, Thalia, Annabeth (not sure why she was there but she stayed at the edge of the group and didn't talk, so Percy wasn't complaining), Reyna, and Will. The blond boy made a beeline for Nico and pulled him into a worried hug.
"Okay, does anyone know anything that will help us?"
"He's got some sort of lie detector I think." Thalia frowned. Percy noticed a cut on the side of her arm, but Frank got to it first with a small medkit he'd produced from... somewhere. "Something that can't be tricked."
"Right. That's how we have to keep you safe, we have to figure out some way to answer both your names truthfully each time until we can..." Percy's hand drifted to the side where the special sword Lily made was hanging. He wasn't going to pull it out until he absolutely had to.
"His name is Zelos." Nico suddenly said quietly.
Percy spun around. "You're sure?"
He nodded. "I heard some... girl calling him that. I didn't see her."
Percy nearly cheered. So they knew who they were going against as well.
"He's stalling for something." Frank said as he finished bandaging Thalia's arm. "There's no way his endgame was threatening the lives of a bunch of teenagers. No offense guys."
"No, you've got a point." Reyna shrugged. "Whatever this... thing is-"
"Greek god." Percy said flatly.
"Right, if you say so. Anyway, if it's got some world conquest on its mind, we are just small stepping stones on his journey."
Frank nodded. "She's right... Percy, this might be our last chance to stop this mess before it gets to Olympus."
"Right."
"Time's up!"
Percy gritted his teeth. "I already hate your voice, is there a reason you sound like Buddy the Elf's evil twin?"
Zelos tilted his head. "I take that as a compliment."
"You would."
"Everyone back to your cells, except for you two." He pointed at Jason and Nico.
They retreated nervously.
"Now, to begin, we need my little lie detector! Darling!"
A new door appeared in the wall and opened slowly.
"I want it on record that this outfit is hideous and purposeless, boss." Her sardonic comment almost made Percy's chest hurt more than her actual appearance.
"E-Emmy?"
