Dirty Little Secret-All American Rejects
Percy POV
By the time we had killed or disabled all the monsters, the school and buildings around it looked like they had been picked up and dropped in the middle of a huge sandbox.
"That's everything tied up." Tony reported as he soared over the last writhing creature, blasting it into Tartarus.
"You need to get home, now." Mom suddenly spoke. She had been silent for most of the fight, but now she sounded horrified.
"Sal? What's wrong?" Tony asked.
"Just get home, I'll explain there. And Percy, no side stops."
The line clicked once, meaning she had left the mic.
"Rather specific..." Frank commented.
"Need a ride back, big guy?" I asked him, landing on his roof.
"Can you carry me all the way back?"
"I can take him, Percy." Thor landed next to me. I stepped back to let my godfather do what he wanted.
"Alright, kid, let's get back before your mother has a heart attack." Tony told me over the comms. "I wonder what's gotten her so worked up."
"Mom wouldn't be worried about it unless it was important." I pointed out, stretching my wings and leaping off the edge of the building.
"Good point. Your mom is extremely level-headed."
We wove between buildings, heading for that familiar, llama shaped tower. As I got closer, I could see an open window near Bruce and Tony's labs. I aimed for it and pulled my wings tight to dive through the opening, then shot them wide to turn myself upright and land.
The room was empty.
"JARVIS, where's my mom?"
"Sally Jackson is in the main lounge. The Avengers are joining her."
"Thanks, J." I tucked my wings behind me and walked through the door, heading to where my family was.
"You forgot this." Tony said teasingly, tossing me my duffel bag. I rolled my eyes and focused on the magic surrounding my wings. Shrinking them and flattening them against my shoulder blades, I knit the flesh above them back together and shrugged my shoulders. Stripping off my shirt, I slid back into my t-shirt and disconnected my mental connector and arm.
Glancing up, I realized everyone was staring at me.
"Uh...yes?"
"Why didn't you put on your mask?" Mom asked.
"I didn't have time."
"Why not?" Bruce asked.
"Nat would have gotten squished."
Eyes turned to the redheaded assassin.
"I was fighting a laistrygonian." She explained. "He's right, I probably would have died."
"And after that?"
"Hostages and those are in danger are more important than keeping my identity safe." I insisted. "Why is this important?"
Mom handed me the TV remote. "Turn on just about any news channel and flip through."
"Or JARVIS could just do it." Tony muttered. My mom, even though she seemed very distracted by whatever was going on, rolled her eyes at his insulted tone.
"J, pull up the local news shows and play them side by side."
"Yes Sir."
I glared at Tony as he grinned. Every time I told JARVIS to call me Percy, he turned around and told the AI to call me 'sir.' It could be very infuriating.
Tony's holographic large screen TV powered up and showed eight news stations.
"-Avengers were spotted today-"
"-one member was a little different-"
"SeaBird-"
"-no mask-"
"-one of his gloves was missing-"
"-no more than 18-"
"-just a teenager-"
"-who is this boy-"
"-Avengers must not be thinking right-"
"-mutant water powers?"
I wasn't that worried until I saw the first picture go up. It wasn't clear enough to see my face, since it was taken from at least twenty feet away, but the blue hair was a dead giveaway.
"-nearby high school-"
"-most likely a student-"
"-investigate-"
"-blue hair-"
"-easy to spot-"
"-close friends-"
"-secret identity?"
I focused on one of the stations to try and hear the story they were telling.
"JARVIS, cut all the sound except on Channel 45."
"We have footage here of SeaBird swooping in and saving the life of a girl and boy who it would seem are his fellow students."
I watched the clear footage. It showed me swooping down on a dazed Frank and terrified Hazel, then soaring over to the huge group of students and dropping the tiny girl before shooting into the air with Frank still in my grasp.
"So far our cameras have gotten the clearest picture of this mystery boy." The news reporter said as the camera backed up and froze on a shot of my face. It was crystal clear. I felt my stomach twist.
A video from one of the other stations caught my eye and I turned to watch that. "JARVIS, switch to Channel 29."
"One of the first reporters on the scene, our very own Kailey Johnstein and her camera crew caught footage of the boy who is SeaBird leaping through a broken window and changed into his costume in full sight of those watching." On camera, just that happened. "Look at those wings, people!" The reporter cheered stepping into the view of the screen as on camera me sprinted for on camera Natasha. "We may finally be finding out who the notoriously secretive SeaBird really is!"
[A/N Dun dun dun! What's he gonna do?]
