Another's Arms-Coldplay
Percy POV
When we got back to the tower, I busied myself helping Natasha get Clint to the infirmary, despite the fact that she kept insisting that I was not to help her.
"You know you're going to have to face her, get on with it." Nat finally snapped.
I bit my lip. "Okay. I just want you to know that if I don't make it-"
"Just go, Jackson."
"Okay, okay!" I trudged up to the living room.
Mom was standing in the doorway, her arms crossed.
"Hey Mom."
"Sit."
I nodded and sat down on the couch. Mom moved in front of me and glared down at me.
"Perseus. Achilles. Jackson. What on Earth were you thinking? You are in no shape to be helping with the missions right now! You could have been killed, I turned around and you were gone, you nearly gave me a heart attack! And you ripped your shirt to shreds! You tried to fight off a goddess after being in said goddess's clutches for what, a week? You were in no position to be there, you should still be in bed, young man! I can't believe you thought that-"
"Mom. I didn't." I said calmly.
She stopped and looked at me. "What?"
"I wasn't. Thinking, that is. I heard my family getting pummeled and I kind of just went on autopilot."
She stared at me for a few moments before shaking her head. "Just like your father said."
"Huh?"
"He told me that you'd be extremely loyal, but I didn't think suicide missions were part of that." She rubbed her face and sat in the chair near me. "Just, never do that again."
"I can't promise that, Mom." I said quietly.
"And why not, Perseus?!" Mom was fired up again.
"Because I love my family. If it's a choice between them and me, I'd gladly take a bullet to the brain."
"Don't you ever say that." Frank said quietly from behind me.
Turning, I saw the entire team, Clint participating via FaceTime on Nat's iPad.
"You said we're your family. And family sticks together. There will be no sacrifice play, especially not from you." Steve said firmly.
"But-"
"No. We don't lose each other. We all work together and we don't let anyone take any of us away from the others." Bruce broke in.
"Deal?" Steve looked me in the eyes.
I nodded slowly and he grinned. "Get over here."
I stood and jumped the couch carefully, landing in front of him. He pulled me into a hug and the others piled on.
"We're a family." Steve repeated.
"Alright, Perce, I've got something to show you." Tony said finally.
"Okay...." I followed him as he beckoned me out of the room. The team followed behind.
"I was working on this while you were at school and I'm to the testing stage." Tony pushed the door to his lab open.
"What is it?" I asked.
Tony went to his table and picked up something covered in a blanket. He turned to me and held it out. "Unwrap it."
I carefully flipped off the blanket. Nestled inside were two arms made of metal. They were a dark grey and had blue sea foam designs along the palms and up the inner arms.
"Wow, Uncle Tony...these are...wow." I stared at them.
"Why are there two? He only lost one arm." Sally said.
"One's a metal glove of sorts, we want to avoid people who know him connecting the teen who lost his arm with SeaBird's costume change."
"What's the official story for the costume change?" Steve asked as I carefully picked up the glove to slide it on my arm.
"Found a way to help him channel his powers with a mind connection and a special funnel type power source. The vaguer the reason, the better. It lets people have their own ideas and makes it easier for us to say that one of them is right once we've heard some theories." Tony grinned.
"It moves well." I commented, wiggling my fingers and twisting my wrist, testing the flexibility of the glove. "I won't have to change my fighting style."
"Exactly. Now, let's get this other one on." Tony dropped the blanket and took the other arm in his hands, stepping forward. I rolled my sleeve up and he attached the metal arm to my shoulder, carefully fitting it on.
"Will it stay?" Bruce asked.
"If my idea works, yes." Tony walked back to his table and grabbed a similarly colored metal band.
"What's that?"
"Your mental connector." He placed it on my brow like a crown and I frowned, moving my hand to push it up slightly.
The team let out gasps and I froze. "What?"
"Perce, look at your hand." Nat said quietly.
I looked at the hand I had used to push up the band.
My left hand.
Tears sprang to my eyes.
"Thank you, Tony."
"No problem. Let's see what you can do with it."
[A/N What do y'all think? I really like the art of the arm, when I saw it on google I was like 'that one. I want that one.']
