Chapter 1- Taken

I am running barefooted through a field. Normally the rough ground against my feet would hurt but for some reason I felt no pain. I felt nothing but the wind and the rain hitting my face as I ran. I stopped at a lake where no sign of rain was present. No raindrops hitting the water no soft waves. I looked down and saw two wolves staring back at me. One had white fur and looked at me kindly; this wolf looked at me as though I were it's friend. The other wolf had fur that was black as a stormy night. It looked upon me warily, as though I held some power that threatened it's life. I touched the water and....

"Volkn wake up!" My father yells at me. I jerk away and stand up immeadiatly, ready to begin my day. My father was scary. He believed that since he had no sons I might as well be treated as a son.

I changed into my brown leggings, brown leather boots with fur trim, white blouse, and a green vest. If you can't already tell my father doesn't buy clothes made for girls for me. I am his son in his eyes and nothing else. The only feminine look about me shows in my breasts, bum, facial features, and my long, wavy hair. That was the only way my true gender showed.

I walked outside and mounted my buckskin mare, Cas, and rode to the market place. There I would be able to buy some food and weapons with my "allowance" father gave me one a month. My allowance was only five grams though, barely enough to buy food for two weeks.

I purchased about seven apples, some feed for Cas, and some bread, a few peices of cheese, and about five new arrows for my bow.

Hopefully this will last me till next month....

I ride around town. I loved this little place where the merchants sold their products and children played. Girls and boys conversed here in harmony; each sending the other blushing looks and teasing words. Women sold clothes and men bought tools. Everything was so beautifully chaotic and I couldn't get enough of it.

I decided I would go see my good friend Manuel, or Mani as the townsfolk called him. He was a young doctor that was only two years older than myself. He was so kind and gentle with everyone. It was surprise to most that he hadn't already proposed to me, but I knew he felt no romantic feelings towards me.

I knocked on the door to his house after putting Cas in the livery just down the street a bit. Mani opened the door, a smile on his tanned face.

"Volkn! It's so good to see you!" He said and beckoned me inside. I walked inside and sat down beside him on the sofa.

"How are you my love?" He said as he tucked a peice of my unruly hair behind my ear.

"I'm as well as can be expected." I say with a shrug. Mani was the only one that knew my father abused me. When my father first started abusing me he had cut my shoulder while in his drunken state. After he went to sleep it still hadn't stopped bleeding. I ran to Mani's house and he fixed my shoulder. Now all I have is the scar.

"You know you can always move in with me." He said as his brown orbs locked with my sea colored ones.

"He'd be here within the hour Mani. I'm ok." I say and kiss his forehead, trying to tell him that I was ok.

Mani and I talked for hours about everything. When I was around Mani I didn't feel any fear. I knew he would protect me.

I felt myself drifting off to sleep in Mani's arms until a loud bang pulled me from my peaceful state.

Men in all black and black cloaks burst into the room, swords drawn and torches in hand. One of them threw his torch on Mani's wood box. I screamed as it caught fire and they grabbed me and Mani.

The two men dragged up to the center of town, everything was on fire, women and children were screaming and crying while men and boys who thought they were men fought against the black soldiers.

They lined us all up and put us into categories of gender, then further by age. Mani's eyes never left me as the town burned before us. When it was dawn, on of the men in black took his hood off. I recognized him immeadiatly as Sir Jonathan Black. He smirked at us as we stared in at the town in horror.

"So, my squire tells me that there are 100 of you. Well I'm afraid that means ten of you are going to die and 4 of you are going to be prisoners of the 4 princes of Darok.

Sir Jonathan began to call random people up to the front and I prayed Mani and I would not be called up there. He called women, children, and elderly up there as if their lives were worthless. I bit back a growl as I watched a little girl's throat be slit before my eyes.

"Now for the prisoners... You there.... With the brown hair and tanned skin..." Sir Jonathan said, pointing at Mani.

"No!" I screamed out as Mani was dragged to the front.

"Get the screaming girl too. That must be his lover and we want our prisoners happy." Sir Jonathan said in a cynical voice.

When I got up there Mani didn't even look at me, he just looked into the eyes of every person out their, silently giving them comfort.

Sir Jonathan called up two more people, both about Mani and I's age.

"Shall we be off then?"

Hello Darokians! It is your loyal author Shadow873

Sooooooo.... What did you think of my first chapter of "Dire of Darok"? I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Question of the day: If you were Volkn would you draw attention to your pain that your best friend was being taken from you? Answer in the comments please!

No. I'm not very vocal about my emotions so I would probably be silently screaming in my head but in reality be as quiet as a mouse.

Anyways....

Thank you so much for reading!

I hope you have a blessed day/night!

God bless you!

Buh Bye! 😘
