The four renegade dinosaurs made their way back to the lighthouse. They settled in, trying to forget the fact that their lives changed very drastically the day before. And also trying to forget that they'd never know who won that Monopoly game. Kris and Artemis were in a heated argument about who the victor would have been when Fiona strolled in.
"You, you. I'm kidnapping you two. C'mon," she said, grabbing Artemis and Kris by the arms and hauling them up, ignoring the fact that they were still squabbling. This left Lizzy and Sam in a rather awkward silence. They stared silently at the wall before Roger burst in, startling them both. As a result of the scare, Lizzy fell off the couch she was perched on.
After standing back up and brushing herself off, Lizzy looked questioningly at Roger. He was panting slightly from exertion.
"Sorry Squirt, didn't mean to scare you that much. But I'm about to hit a breakthrough on an invention and I'd really like some help, if you guys aren't busy. Hey, where's Kris and Artemis? Wait, don't tell me. Fiona kidnapped them?" Roger said, all in one breath. Lizzy and Sam shared a glance, then nodded at Roger. "Okay, it'll work better with just two of you. Now, come to my evil mad scientist's lair!" He motioned for them to follow him before leaving the room. Lizzy and Sam glanced at each other again before looking at the door, waiting for Roger to realize he left them behind.
After a few minutes of confused looks and patiently waiting, Roger came back in. "Ah, right." He said, looking a bit embarrassed. "You are new so you don't know where the lair -- ahem, lab -- is." He motioned for them to follow him and they began to walk out of the room and down the stairs. They followed in utter silence and only Roger felt the awkward silence. He coughed a bit to fill it up every once in awhile. They followed him to twin doors, and he opened it revealing a room of spare parts and other doodads. Lizzy looked around, her eyes wide with amazement at all of the objects. Her brain had already begun to piece ideas together.
"Whoa~" She whispered, excited by all of the objects of all shapes and sizes. Roger smiled a bit, realizing that she had interests that overlapped with his.
"Do you like to invent things?" He questioned, opening drawers to a desk and searching through them.
"Kinda..." She said quietly. "I like to create plans and blueprints." She then smiled a bit remembering something of the past. Roger smiled when he saw hers. "Artemis is the one who likes to bring those ideas out of my head and into reality," Lizzy chuckled a bit. "I once told her of a robotic penguin I had dreamed about. When my 'birthday' came around, she had built one using spare parts she had found during missions and such."
"What did it do?" Asked Roger, intrigued.
"It walked and talked. It was a plush, too!" She giggled in happiness. "It could also shake hands and glow in the dark if I got scared. Whenever I felt scared, I hugged it and it purred and vibrated a bit, like a cat. It had a heater so when I got cold it would warm me, and it could glow in the dark." Her smile had grown while she rambled on about the toy. Roger was surprised that Artemis, the violent and loud girl, had built something so complex out of scraps. "It was exactly how I had described it to her."
"That's interesting," Roger mumbled. He caught a glimpse of a small smile on Sam's face.
"She had slaved over that toy for a while," he commented, surprising Roger. Sam then turned his attention to him. "What did you need us for?"
"Ah," Roger said, remembering. "Yes. I need you guys to test this out," He said, presenting to them handcuffs. Within a few seconds, he had clipped it to Lizzy's left arm and Sam's right one, locking them together. Roger began to explain what it did. "What you have here is my newest invention. It's handcuffs that can expand or shrink, depending on the wrist size. I was planning on it helping officers around the world but, I guess, it could help in trapping and locking a dino's arm."
Sam lifted his arm up to investigate it, dragging Lizzy's arm along with. "How do you take it off?" He looked up at Roger.
Roger's face contorted in confusion. "Take it off...." He muttered. Lizzy felt a pit in her stomach grow. "Uh," he began, a bit hesitant to tell them the truth in fear of angering the very large Sam. "I think I forgot to include that in the design..."
"S-so... We are st-stuck like this-s?" She stuttered worriedly, chewing on her lip. Sam looked at Roger in surprise.
"Afraid so, until I can at least alter it." He said.
"Why don't we just smash it?" Sam asked, peering down at Roger.
Roger's eyes narrowed. "If you so much as scratch those, you will not get out of it unharmed," He said menacingly. Sam frowned and put his arm down, dragging Lizzy's with it. Lizzy's eyes were wide as saucers, and they kept darting from the cuffs to Roger. Roger sneered. "You had to sleep in the same bed last night, right? Just do it again." He looked at Sam like 'I got you'. Sam scowled, hard enough to bore a hole in Roger's skull. Then he gently pulled Lizzy out of the room and back to the room where they had been sitting earlier.
After a few minutes of sitting several feet apart with their hands still cuffed together, Buzz walked in.
"Are you guys holding hands?" He asked, tactless as usual. Lizzy turned bright red, again, but Sam just looked up with a somewhat bored expression on his face. He slowly lifted their cuffed hands for Buzz to see.
"Does this look like any kind of hand-holding to you?" He said, giving Buzz a 'really?' face. Buzz shrugged.
"Depends on whether or not you're into that stuff. Which I can respect, just so you know."
Artemis had escaped from Fiona's clutches, who had wanted Kris and her to clean the van. After that annoying chore, she had escaped as quickly as possible to explore and leave Kris to fend for himself. She had ended up in a room full of spare parts and doodads, ideas infested into her brain. She played around with everything and mapped out their locations in her head. Something shiny caught her eye, making her look its way. With a tilting of her head, she crept cautiously over to it, her multicolored eyes shining with curiosity. She picked it up and turned the handcuffs over in her hand. She wrapped her left hand in the cuffs.
"Oooooh, shiny," a voice mocked, startling Artemis enough to lock the handcuffs on accident. She whipped around angrily to find Kris smirking at her. She growled at him. "You always were a sucker for anything with a bit of shine," he teased.
"Lookit what you did!" She said, taking everything she had to not smile. "I'm stuck and there are no keys here!" Kris snickered.
"Here, lemme help," He said, walking over to her. She held her left arm out to him, accepting his help. He raised an eyebrow in question and she looked away.
She turned her head back a few seconds later, startling him and making him twitch at her sincerity. "As long as you don't get--" She was cut off by a sharp click. Looking down, she saw that Kris had locked his right hand in the cuffs. Groaning, she turned to him. "You idiot."
He chuckled, regaining composure. "That's what happens when you startle people."
"And how did I startle you?"
"Uh..." Kris muttered, becoming stumped.
A few minutes later, Roger returned to his lab to find everything utterly destroyed. He had come because he heard dinosaurs shrieking and yelling. Little objects and doodads were everywhere. And in the middle of it all were two dinos. An Australovenator and an Utahraptor were shrieking and attacking each other. It wasn't in aggressiveness, of course. It was in play. None of them knew that, though, not even the dinosaurs.
"Hey!" He yelled, catching their attention. They quickly stopped and shrunk down to human size. Roger was happy to see that the cuffs could indeed shrink and expand according to the size of the wearer.
"Why did... you... lock it?" Artemis panted, glaring at one very dead Kris.
"I didn't mean... to," he panted. "It was... an accident!"
Still, Roger was awestruck. "You destroyed the room!" He yelled at them. "How did you even do this?!"
"I was tinkering with it and he scared me so I accidently locked it!" Artemis growled, pointing at Kris with her right hand, which was free.
Kris glared back at her with equal defiance. "And I tried to help you and also ended up getting stuck!" He said in shock. "It's not my fault that it ended up this way!" They just stared at each other in stubbornness, not breaking eye contact.
Roger walked over, taking a breath, and placed his hands on their shoulders. "If you so much as scratch those," he repeated, "I will show no mercy." The two turned to him, shocked. "Now, go up and join the other two -- which are also stuck -- in the main room!" He ordered.
"Roger, Roger," Kris snickered. Roger glared at him and Artemis literally dragged him out of the lab.
When they arrived to the room, they sat down. Kris noticed that Sam and Lizzy were stuck. Lizzy looked up and giggled at her friends behind her book. Sam looked up at her laughter and looked over to them.
They were on complete opposite sides of the couch, their arms stretched out as far as possible. Their backs were to each other and Kris' movements gave the slightest hint that he was startled and confused at their situation, making Lizzy and Sam look at each other and smile. They chuckled under their breath.
