Prologue: The Deer

"Yo, Jungkook! Catch up, you're so slow!"

A brunette boy clutched his pounding chest with a slightly trembling hand, panting heavily and lowering his head which caused the damp hair beneath his helmet to spread all over his forehead and eyes. "That's not fair, I had to go all the way back because I lost my damn keys!," he called out in between harsh pants.

"Blah blah. Hurry up and come on!," the other boy yelled while furiously kicking the pedals of his yellow, mud-covered bicycle. He was barely visible at this point anymore, resembling a blurry yellow-brown dot far in the distance.

"Fuck you, Yugyeom!," the brunette groaned, swinging himself on his red, also mud-covered bicycle and kicking his pedals too, his speed gradually increasing the more he kicked. He hissed as he felt how wet the saddle under his behind was and mentally cursed himself for wearing his nicest jeans today.

"I'm gonna get you, bitch," he mumbled under his breath, moving his bike at an even faster pace and scrunching his nose in distaste when he tasted raindrops on the tip of his tongue as he tried to draw a deep breath.

He did not sign up for this.
Every week, the three quite sporty high schoolers Min Yoongi, Kim Yugyeom and Jeon Jungkook fulfilled their weekly tradition of taking their (well, technically, their dads') motorcycles for a ride and racing each other with all their might. Just for fun, to enjoy their lives, the fresh air and the feeling of pure control of themselves, forgetting their everyday lousy responsibilities such as school.

Yes, motorcycling tours.
So why exactly were they riding bicycles?

Because for this week, Yugyeom had had the great idea of trying something completely different and unique and thus, he came to the lame idea of taking bicycles instead of their motorcycles. Well, actually, his bike's motor was just damaged and brought to the repairing centre and he didn't want to miss out on this week's round. He had also chosen a new route: the damn forest.

Yoongi was beyond impressed of that brilliant suggestion of his and since Jungkook didn't want to spoil their fun despite not being happy about the idea, he gave in and now, here they were.

And of course, his keys had magically decided to slip out of his back pocket mid-way and of course, the brunette only realized that after a few minutes and had to run all the way back, clutching his bike's handles and heaving it along to search for those damn keys. His parents weren't home tonight, so if he didn't plan on spending the night on the streets like a beggar, his whole life practically depended on the keys.

Note to himself, he would never put his keys into his back pocket again. He could already see himself sit in class the next day of school, clenching his jaw each time he'd move his limbs and feel a painful strain in his biceps, triceps and just all over.

The lighting inside the forest was not optimal at all since dark and thick rainclouds were currently covering up the deep blue sky and raindrops were drizzling down upon him constantly. When riding motorcycles, bad weather didn't usually bother him much but with a normal bicycle, he found it to be quite the hassle. The ground was muddy, his shoes and the bike's wheels practically drenched in dirt which turned out to be quite the handicap for bike riking. Nevertheless, he was set on his goal to beat Yugyeom and Yoongi and therefore kept kicking his pedals with all the strength his legs could muster, which was a lot.

He heard muffled sounds that sounded a lot like Yugyeom's screams but the helmet on his head as well as the wind howling inside his earshells prevented him from deciphering any specific words. "Yugyeom?! Yoongi?!," he shouted as he felt the now much bigger raindrops clatter on top of his helmet harshly, wetting his entire body and painting his sight swampy. The two dots far in front of him that resembled his two best friends became smaller and smaller, eventually completely disappearing. It was quite evident that the two were not able to hear him anymore, either.

He was slowly starting to panic. There was no way he would find his way out of this deep forest by himself, it was a completely new route which he had never been to plus the fact that it was currently raining cats and dogs from the high heavens above was definetely not helping him at all. The sun was about to set, too. What if he had to spend his night inside the forest, what would his parents say? He didn't have internet connection, either. The police or Google Maps wasn't an option.

And what about Yugyeom and Yoongi? Would they find their way out and at least manage to stick together by themselves? Would they worry about Jungkook if they ended up finding the end of the forest without him? Jungkook couldn't help but cuss out Yugyeom in his mind for coming up with such a trashy idea, he'd much rather be riding his motorcycle on the tracks they normally raced on. The normal ones.

Despite being in the middle of the forest with dozens of tall and thick trees and bushes among him, he could sense the sky getting darker and darker. The shadows of the branches eventually stopped letting any light through and the air got chillier and made his rain water-drenched body shiver.

And of course, it did not stop raining. Jungkook was starting to wonder for how many hours he had been kicking the pedals of his stupid bicycle, seeing the same thick trees and branches over and over. At some point, they started looking like skeletons trying to grasp him between their bony, creepily clattering joints. It gave him the creeps, and he wasn't even afraid of horror movies.

His hands wrapped around the handles felt numb as he didn't bring gloves and his legs felt like two pieces of rubber uncomfortably attached to the rest of his body.

With his drenched and freezing hands, he tried turning on his phone's flashlight as his sight was beginning to morph into a big mass of dark green, brown and black and he soon wouldn't be able to tell if there was a tree standing in front of him. Adding to that, his bike's front light was broken. Luckily, after a few tries, the flashlight did activate itself and Jungkook tucked his phone below his chin as his bicycle also did not own a basket. Much to his relief, at least that worked.

All of a sudden, he saw something unusual appear in front of him. Crossroads.

There even was a sign in the middle! A wooden sign that may be able to tell him which direction would bring him the closest to home, or towards the next big city. The brunette squinted his eyes in order to recognize the letters carved into the ancient-looking wood, unfortunately making the mistake of losing his focus elsewhere and just staring at the sign in pure concentration, leaning forward in his saddle and not paying attention to his surroundings.

And suddenly, he saw someone- or something jump right in front of him which made him ultimately lose his balance as a loud cry left his mouth, echoing throughout the whole forest. Whatever that was, there was a big chance a collision would happen as he was currently racing towards it at full speed and could not just turn around like that with the wet and muddy ground preventing him from doing so. What was happening?

A dotted furcoat, four long and delicate thin legs, a slender neck with a proud head sitting on top of it. A deer had just jumped in front of his bike. And he was steering right towards it.

Since he really did not plan on having a bike crash with a deer and injuring himself aswell as the elegant animal out of all things that could happen today, he released a string of curses and tried to steer away from it. As the road, the handles and the pedals were extremely slippery due to the heavy rainfall and his posture was quite incovenient, it was not easy at all.

Eventually, he somehow did manage to jerk the handles of his bike towards the right, a few milliseconds before a potential collision could have occured. However, he should have thought of the consequences of after he made the harsh turn.

He ultimately lost control of his bike, his hands slipping off the handles and his shoes slipping off the pedals. He also went completely off course, his bike clashing through an abundance of trees, branches and bushes, it appeared that it was now speeding downhill. Was he rolling from a mountain?

He had no sense of orientation whatsoever, all he saw and felt were little twigs, leaves and branches brushing him or stabbing him, luckily being able to dodge a few tree trunks he threatened to bump against.

He didn't know how long this was going on for. For a whole while, he just kept getting hit by a literal gazillion of branches (or so it felt), not being able to look anywhere in fear of them poking his eyes out and just internally begging for it to stop. He felt utterly helpless, not to mention the fact that he was a literal inch away from death.

And then, his bike eventually gave up, throwing him off harshly and making him roll along the dirty ground for about half a minute. And when he came to a halt, Jungkook could feel himself slowly lose consciousness and his sight turn blurry and unfocused. "Yugyeom... Yoongi...," he mumbled almost inaudibly, closing his eyes and feeling himself drift off into a strange, slumber-like state, though his part of his body protested. Despite being in a highly uncomfortable position, his body gave up and stopped fighting against the exhaustion consuming it and made Jungkook ultimately lose consciousness.

°○●○●○°

He did not want to wake up. He really didn't.

But someone, or something kept nudging him. How annoying! It was Saturday, a perfect day to be lazy, have some cereal and pancakes with bananas while playing Minecraft and most importantly, sleep. Couldn't he just be left in peace? And why did the air inside his room smell so weird? Way too fresh! He did not want to open his eyes.

"Alright, mom! Five minutes!," he slurred groggily but groaned when he felt that mysterious something, presumably his mother, still nudge him relentlessly.
"What do you wa--" He gasped when he saw mud and grass instead of his usual clean Iron Man bedsheets.

He jerked up, looking around in panic. And that was when he found out what had nudged him. Not his mother for sure.
A snout. A deer's snout, to be exact.

He lifted himself into a sitting position hastily, letting out a yelp of confusion. The deer surprisingly stood still and looked down upon him calmly, as if it was perfectly normal for it to sniff awake passed out humans in the forest.
Jungkook had never seen a deer up close before, and he did not want to ever again.

Without a single word, Jungkook stood up as skillfully as he could, every single muscle aching and throbbing as soon as he did but that did not stop him since he kind of saw this as a life-death-situation. As he looked up into the sky, his eyes widened when he saw it tinted with pink, purple and orange. Sunrise. Had he really been knocked out for that long?

Feeling his ankle throb painfully, he limped his way forward, not having any clue where he was actually going. The woods looked quite different from before. Mysterious but beautiful rather than scary. Not a single drop of rain was pouring anymore, the sky was perfectly clear with few pompous and proud- almost delicious-looking clouds.

All of a sudden, he came across a bunch of strange trees. Weeping willows, presumably. Their branches were longer and thicker than usual, the wood a smooth and pearly white and the glittering leaves reaching the ground as if they were hiding something behind them.

And the weirdest thing? They had literal rose vines around them; red roses, dark as blood, blooming around the trunk of the trees, several thorns surrounding the vines. To make things even more unusual, the thorns weren't normal: They were thorns painted in gold, silver and bronze.

Of course he had seen weeping willows before, but definetely not like that. There was something strangely alluring about those willows, something that simply pulled him towards them automatically. And since he did not know where the hell he was or where the hell he was supposed to go, the brunette bent down and crawled his way below one of the strange branches, leaves tickling him but luckily none of the odd thorns scratching him. His ankle hurt, though. He groaned as he reached the other side.

And then, he gasped.

It was as if he had just entered a parallel universe. Alone the atmosphere felt different, lighter, somehow.

How was this possible?

There were more strange trees, all of them looking astonishingly smooth as the ones before and their leaves painted the most luscious shade of green, appearing so beautiful Jungkook could swear he could see gold glitter trickle down them. However, no roses.

As he kept walking with his jaw wide open, he came across a little path laid out by stones of the most delicate shade of light pink he had ever seen. Every single one of them was equally big and carved into identically-looking oval forms, he was afraid of destroying the beauty of it by stepping on them but couldn't resist. The path led along a field of the most lush and gorgeous roses he had ever laid eyes upon on, abundances of roses in various colours spread out in front of him. But none of them the same shade of blood red that the willows before had.

Now that he looked around, this wasn't just any path or rose garden, park even. The area he found himself to be in literally resembled fairyland. Did he die and accidentally enter heaven? It wasn't unbelievable for sure.

The path led him towards a building. Not just any building, a tower. A tower so big and high, you'd think it belonged to Rapunzel. Only that it wasn't just a tower, the tower was part of a building that was so gigantically huge, Jungkook couldn't even see it properly. How the hell did no one ever realize such an astounding place existed right in the middle of the damn woods? This would be the ultimate filming location, not to mention sight-seeing hotspot!

Unfortunately, he didn't see anyone around who could explain to him where in the hell he actually was right now. The only thing he found was a golden ladder, leading towards what was presumably the first floor. The whole building was built out of that exact same shade of delicate and light rosy pink as the path and it most definetely piqued his curiosity. Plus, he really needed someone to help him get to a hospital, his injuries were nothing to ignore and they made it hard for him to move even an inch.

So, he gathered the last strength he had and climbed up the ladder as well as he could, almost holding his breath and biting his tongue to ignore the stabbing pain of his injuries.
When (luckily) all had gone well, he finished his little journey by climbing over a railing which led towards a nice balcony with the size of a literal ship deck. Since his urge to seek treatment for his injuries was getting bigger and bigger gradually, he didn't get to take a close look at it and focused on what was in front of him, which was a huge glass door with light curtains flowing beautifully in the wind, the door being open much to his delight.

He knew he was basically breaking and entering, but he couldn't exactly help it as he was in need of some serious aid, so he stepped through the fragile-looking glass door and gasped as he saw what was inside.

What in heaven's name-- holy fucking shit. Where the hell am I?

He was so mesmerized, he kept gaping at what was displayed in front of him and didn't even realize that there was still no person inside.
Or that there were footsteps, storming up towards the room he was currently standing in.

However, he did realize he wasn't left alone anymore when the door suddenly creaked open, and a loud scream filled the area.
