Chapter 1
Jungkook flinched as he turned around in shock, towards where his ears had picked up the scream.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my chambers, intruder?! I am summoning the guards!," a male's voice screeched loudly, and that was when the brunette laid eyes upon the person who had just entered the room.
His jaw dropped once again.
Was this person even real? Was he hallucinating? There was no way a living, breathing human being could be this gorgeous.
In front of him stood a boy with soft hair the shade of freshly plucked blueberries, his skin glowing gold as the evening sun and smooth as butter, lips so rosy pink and enticing it was hardly possible to keep his eyes off them. The one thing that mesmerized him even more were his eyes: big and wide, the softest shade of toffee brown, sparkly and fringed with long and thick eyelashes. And currently, widened out of shock with a glint of anger surging through them.
It took a while for Jungkook to recompose himself and recall what the boy had said, feeling his heart pound wildly as soon as he remembered the word 'guards'. Was he being serious right now? Guards? As in, people who guarded this room? Was it precious?
Did he accidentally break into some kind of expensive film set? It was the only plausible explanation for this crazy place, alone the room he was currently standing in looked as if Midas personally had paid a visit and sprayed it with heaps and heaps of glitz and gold, everything seemed to shimmer blissfully and he couldn't even start describing the furniture. It seemed almost unreal.
"I-I," he then stammered. "I don't know what's going on. A-Are you real? Is this real? Wh-Who are you?" Normally, he would've responded with a horribly cheesy pick up line when seeing a boy this beautiful (Like "Are you from France? Because Eiffel for you," or "Are you Google? Because you're everything I've been searching for.") but there was something so intimidating in the strange boy's blazing gaze that led him into not doing anything except for goggling at him and stammering like a broken record.
The blue-haired male scoffed, stomping towards him with huge steps which definetely had him panicking, especially when he grabbed the hem of the brunette's leather jacket as soon as he stood in front of him. "You have the audacity to ask me who I am, standing inside my chambers of our palace? Do you not recognize your own crown prince? Are you not from the village?," he snapped.
If Jungkook hadn't been confused before, he definetely was now.
Chambers? Palace? Village? Crown prince? Why was he talking as if he were an actual prince living in an actual palace? This was nothing but a simple movie set, right? Was this guy on drugs? Or too immersed into his role?
"L-Listen," he tried to explain. "I have no idea what I'm doing here or who you are. I rode my bike yesterday evening and it rained and everything was a mess, so I passed out in the woods and all of a sudden, I found this place. I'm hurt and wanted to ask around for help so I ended up climbing the ladder up to here and I promise you, I don't mean any harm. Please go ahead and shoot your movie, all I need is a doctor." He could feel the beautiful boy's grip on his jacket slightly loosen, the rage inside his orbs turning into plain confusion and his eyebrows furrowing.
"Woods... Movie?... A commoner?," he whispered almost inaudibly after a short while of pin-drop silence. He then cleared his throat, looking at Jungkook reprovingly. "You will sit down and report to me exactly how you got into my chambers and this kingdom. I am sick of spies playing games with me. Do not bother attempting to flee, I have men guarding every single corner of this castle," he ordered, dragging him towards a rose-golden chair that practically resembled a mini-throne. Being forced to walk with his injured ankle, the brunette gritted his teeth.
Spies? What even...
After being seated on the velvety seating cushion on top of it, Jungkook tried to open his mouth but closed it again when the male gave yet another preposterous speech.
"You may start speaking now. Who are you? Who sent you? Was it him? Or was it my father, wanting to observe my every move to make certain that I am worthy of my future rank despite not wishing to marry?" At first, Jungkook could do nothing but blink.
Wow, he's taking his role really seriously. He's just acting, though. Right? Right?
"Um... My name is Jungkook. And I'm telling you the truth. No one sent me anywhere, I got lost, somehow ended up in your rose garden thingy and I climbed up the ladder. Exactly how I told you. Is is that unbelievable for you? And would you mind explaining to me what in the fu-- what in the world this place even is? Are you shooting a movie for real? Or a reality show?," he asked, raising his eyebrows when the stranger pinched his nose bridge with a sigh.
"Heavens, this can't be true... How could a commoner invade the Royal Kingdom of Elysium?! It is strictly forbidden and sworn to high secrecy," he mumbled in desperation, Jungkook more confused now than ever.
"What're you talking about? Kingdoms don't even exist in South Korea, this isn't Middle Age..." The other scoffed, as if it were the stupidest thing he had ever heard. What exactly was his deal? Oh gosh, was this boy schizophrenic?
"Oh, sweet boy. You do not know anything," he then spoke softly. "You poor thing seriously believe everything you are taught at that odd place called... What do they call it? School?" Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows.
"Uh... yeah? Duh? We don't have history books for nothing!" The gorgeous stranger scoffed.
"And this is where you are mistaken, dear boy. Jungkook, was it? Those lies you commoners are fed are nothing but a cover-up. The whole political system is incorrect the way you are told it is," the blueberry-haired male said as if it were the most logical thing in the world. Jungkook couldn't help but get slight goosebumps from the way the other had said his name.
"I-I don't understand. What do you mean, politics are incorrect? And a cover-up for what, exactly?" The self-proclaimed crown prince rolled his eyes.
"To protect us, the Royal family of Elysium, of course. We are also called the Kingdom of Roses by many villagers. You commoners may think royalty found its end hundreds of years ago, but that is nothing but a lie. What is written down in your school books is also a lie. Laws, trades, alliances, resources and gold- We are behind everything. As I said, politics do not exist as you know them. You are currently speaking to Kim Taehyung, the crown prince."
Jungkook's jaw visibly dropped.
He couldn't tell if the boy was actually being serious or if he was getting tricked. "So, you're telling me all my years of political and historical education are a joke. There's a royal kingdom in the middle of the woods called-- Elysium? And for whatever weird reason, absolutely no one happens to know about this. And you're-- a crown prince? What the fuck?" He didn't know what was worse, all the information he'd just received or Taehyung's way too casual nod.
"Well, if you dig deep enough, you might come across some legends and myths about this kingdom. Greek Mythology does not count, those myths are purely made up to confuse you. Commoners nowadays are blinded and foolish, too blinded to see the portals leading here. Too blinded to acknowledge royalty." Jungkook tried not to feel offended.
He was really questioning his whole life right now. Was he dreaming or hallucinating? Did the fall make him hit a special nerve that had made him completely lose his sanity?
All of a sudden, the door opened and a new person entered the room, both of them, especially Jungkook, flinching at that.
"Your Majesty, it is time to get dressed for-- Oh, heavens! Who is this man?!," a much higher and softer voice exclaimed, another ethereal-looking person entering the room. It was another man, much shorter than the so-called crown prince. With blonde hair glowing like gold bars on his head and skin gleaming like freshly caught pearls, the brunette wouldn't be surprised if this man turned out to be some god-like creature, just like the so-called prince.
In that moment, Jungkook took a moment to examine their clothing. The royal, blueberry-haired angelic being wore robes made of fabric he had never seen before: it appeared to be white but also silver at the same time, looking thin and transparent but also covering up his entire body by loosely hugging it. And with every single movement he made, it seemed to flutter and glitter beautifully. Like sunrays gliding over an ocean and making the waves sparkle beautifully. Was there a single damn thing in this place that wasn't astoundingly and ridiculously beautiful?
The blonde man's clothes resembled a uniform- a very beautiful uniform. Expensive-looking red garnment with a dim glow and tiny embellishments detailing it. His posture was stiff and straight, his expression serious and his gaze piercing and penetrating as he stared Jungkook down in something that just screamed disapproval.
"Who are you, intruder? And what do you search for in His Majesty's chambers? I shall alert the guards to lead you into the dungeons at once," the blonde man snapped, making the brunette widen his eyes, not knowing if he should be worrying about himself or not. This was the second time they had mentioned guards. Were these people being serious? And why were they speaking like this? So... anciently?
"I believe he comes in peace, Jimin. This young man seems to be a commoner, a lucky man to find Elysium through a not so lucky accident. Examine his pockets, please. We must know if he has brought any dangerous weapons into the castle," Taehyung ordered, the male called Jimin marching towards Jungkook and with his eyes still glaring, grabbing the hem of his leather jacket. The latter flinched, not feeling all too comfortable like this.
"Your Majesty, I beg your pardon. A commoner in the fine grounds of Elysium? That is known to be impossible, the portals are hidden among the deepest depths of their forest. What if that is nothing but falsification?," Jimin asked suspiciously, rummaging inside the pockets of Jungkook's leather jacket and pulling out his phone, charger, keys and earphones. The brunette hissed in pain as he felt many of his bruises getting slapped by the blonde man's impatient hands.
"Aha!," he then exclaimed dramatically, presenting the phone charger to Taehyung. "He must have brought this to harm you, Your Majesty. To tie this tool around your pure, unscathed neck and squash the life out of you! He is planning to assassinate you, he must be beheaded immediately!"
Jungkook's jaw dropped out of disbelief. "What the fuck, it's just a phone charger!," he shouted angrily, making both of their heads whip around sharply which made him regret ever opening his mouth.
"Show this to me," the blue-haired male demanded, taking the brunette's dirty phone into his hands and examining it. "Heavens, father taught me about these things. I have never touched such an object. Commoners call them cellphones, they use these gadgets to communicate with one another. He must be telling the truth," he whispered, pronouncing the word 'cellphones' as if it were the most unusual thing to ever exist.
"Are you sure about trusting him, Your Majesty? What do you plan on doing with him? Sparing his life, throwing him into the dungeons, beheading him, presenting him to the King?," the shorter male asked in concern, Taehyung simply blinking for a brief moment and then gesturing his subject, servant, whatever he was, to come closer in order to whisper some words inside his ear.
Jungkook most definetely did not enjoy his literal life being discussed by two random (and very gorgeous) men as if it were nothing but the simplest casualty- normally he would have spoken up but in this case, he figured he'd be better off staying quiet. This strange place seemed to be more than an expensive movie set, after all.
A few minutes of whispering, quiet mumbling and slight whisper-shouting, the two of them stood apart and Jimin straightened his posture, giving a little bow. "As you wish, Your Majesty," he spoke obediently. And then, Taehyung stepped closer towards Jungkook who was still sitting on the throne-like chair, currently contemplating his entire life. The ethereal-looking crown prince cleared his throat, looking directly into his eyes.
"Follow me, commoner. I shall show you around the castle."
